#WishlistWednesday: Lace those Boots Up!

-POP (2)It’s getting crazy…there are too many things that I like and want. My closet can’t hold it all, but I love online window shopping. Now that we’re fully into the Fall season, boots are all I am searching for. I keep seeing these lace up booties everywhere, so I searched them up and found a few that I am dying to own. Now, personally…I may not get over the fact that I actually need to lace all of those laces, but they still are really cute.

Lace up booties, while some of them have insulation so you can wear them in the Winter, are mainly for Fall. Most of these boots could not hold up in the snow, and are purely for fashion (in my opinion), so I would not recommend wearing any of my choices in the depths of Winter. However, that should not prevent you from checking these picks out because they are certainly on my radar!!

Rampage Jeliana Lace Up Combat Booties, Rampage at Macy’s, $49.99

It’s boots like these that make me wish Macy’s was in Canada. They are so pretty and such a great price. There three things about these booties that caught my eye. First, the knit cuff at the top of the boot. That is beautiful and adds great detail to the boot. Second, the brown colour of the boot. I am such a fan of brown boots, and this is the perfect shade – not too dark, not too light. Third, the heel is the perfect height. Combat boots typically do not have heels, but this little one is great.

Troopa Boots, Steve Madden, $69.99

You can never go wrong with Steve Madden! I love these trooper boots, mainly because of how high the boot reaches on the calf. These boots are a little less “combat” looking (do you know what I mean?) and they are a little bit softer. The colour is rich and beautiful…and most importantly, they look really comfortable!!

Okeya Lace up Booties, Nine West, $149.00

These are interesting. The lace holes are offset which creates a cool look and I honestly haven’t seen anything like it! These are different from the traditional combat looking lace up boot, and that is because this is a wedge. Wedges are so comfortable, so I imagine these wouldn’t be too uncomfortable! I also want to point out the tab at the back of the neck of the boot. This will allow you to easy slip off the boot (provided that the laces are done up loose enough…)

Well there you go. Lace up booties seem to be everywhere, and these are some of my favourites! Of course, there are some black ones that are out there that are really nice, but they looked a little too combat for me (someday I might have to define what that means…) so I went for the brown. Plus, I feel that brown goes with a lot more of my Fall wardrobe!!

How do you like your boots? Do you go for laces? Let me know in the comments below!

Gold Jewelry: Why is gold the better choice?

I’m a huge fan of gold. Who isn’t? When used the right way in anything, it is the perfect accent. Gold is the perfect accent colour. We have seen the colour gold on many runways in the past, worn in all different kinds of ways. It can be the colour of the dress, or it can be in a gold necklace…or maybe the make up reflects the golden accent. However gold is used, it is used often.

The photos shown above are from the runway looks in Summer 2014. This is only a small sample of how we have seen gold been worn (Note: the photo compilation above is not mine, source). What I want to talk to you about today is gold jewelry used as an accent. Whether it is a designer necklace or a personalized name necklace, if it is gold, it just adds something special to any outfit. With this being said, we do all have our preference, so if gold isn’t for you, then silver it is! First, I will show you some of my favourite pieces that are on sale right now. Next, I am going to show you some ways and looks to incorporate those gold accents!

What is gold jewelry? This sounds like a simple question, but I wanted to define what I mean here…because there are different classifications (that I have come up with myself) under the umbrella, “gold jewelry”. First, you have your solid gold, all gold jewelry (the colour, not the metal), similar to like a gold name necklace for example. No colour or different accents (pinks, reds, etc.) included…just the gold. Then you have the jewelry that includes gold as an accent, or the hardware is gold.

So now that we have that cleared up? Let me show you my very favourites! All of these images are linked, so if you see something you like, you can grab it for yourself!!

The necklaces above are my top three “all-gold” statement pieces that I am swooning over right now. Each image is linked in case you love them as much as I do, but (from left to right) they are from Purple Peridot, Forever 21 and Charming Charlie.

The necklaces above are my top three “gold hardware” statement pieces that I looove right now. Each image is linked in case you love them as much as I do, but (from left to right) they are from Bauble Bar, Purple Peridot, and J.Crew Factory. I want to point out the middle piece (above) in particular. This is something I have seen all over Instagram, and it is styled so, so well! Which is why I wanted to give it extra attention!

Okay now on to the style tips…

You wouldn’t style gold jewelry any different than you would style silver jewelry or copper jewelry…but there are some looks I have grabbed from Pinterest for you, so that you can see what I mean. Keep in mind that gold jewelry includes necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings…the whole category!! I chose to feature necklaces above because that is mainly the type of jewelry that I wear…

Gold statement necklace over a cream sweater with a denim jacket. So pretty. * SALE ! *: Love that bracelet and the dress 50 Hot New Looks For Spring 2014 - Style Estate -:

You can see that gold is worn with all colour schemes, all occasions…which is why I love the colour. Silver jewelry is reserved for elegant, special occasions. However gold is for all around the clock! I love the accent and I think it really adds that step of sparkle that most people need in their looks.

So why is gold the better choice? You may not see why I love it yet, so let me give you a few reasons. First, it never goes out of style. You will never have to go and get new jewelry because the world suddenly hates gold. This is why the best vintage jewelry (like that sold at Jess jewlers) is usually gold – it forever stays in fashion. Second, it warms up your look. Warming up your look keeps it alive. Having warm tones will top your look off and make it the best it can be. Third, it’s just the right amount of flashy! Flashy is good. You may not think so, but just the right amount of sparkle is perfect for anyone’s look!!

There you go…it will always be in style, warm and flashy…recipe for success, right?

Do you agree? Do you like gold jewelry or are you more of a silver person? Let me know in the comments below and don’t forget to check out the links below for some other great pieces that are out there right now…

#WishlistWednesday: Plaid Accessories

#WISHLISTWEDNESDAYI really love the plaid pattern and really anything that it comes in. There have been several new plaid trends in the past year, and one of them that I am loving is plaid accessories. Whether it is red, green or black with grey hues, it is absolutely marvelous and I am excited to show you the fabulous accessories that I have found for you! Bags, gloves, and scarves – the whole lot is here today.

Similar to my “Booties, booties, booties” post that I released a couple of weeks ago, I am going to show you three groupings of plaid accessories and only the best that I have chosen to talk about! Plaid is such a staple in the Fall, whether you wear it in a flannel shirt, pants or even in an accessory. I love working with plaid accessories because they put the right spin on your outfit and take it to the next level! Most people associate plaid with Christmas, but I associate with the entire Fall and Winter season! Since the season is quickly approaching, why not break out the plaid accessories?

The Plaid Bag. Whether it comes in a tote, handbag or clutch, plaid is in for this season. Personally, I am in love with the red plaid bag on the right. I like the structure and the colour scheme…pretty much the entire bag (to be honest!!). These three gorgeous bags I picked are from (left to right) Kate Spade New York, Lauren Ralph Lauren, and Tory Burch and they are all linked for your shopping enjoyment!

Being that plaid is a pattern that you can mix with so many great colour schemes, in a bag, it can also be the focal point of your outfit. Pair that red plaid bag with a black neutral background, then BAM! There’s a statement. If you want to go fore more of a neutral plaid pattern, then the middle and far right bag are the bags to do so. The colour schemes aren’t so harsh and have more colours to pick up in an outfit. Plus, the blue clutch is adorable!!

The Plaid Glove. Gloves are probably my favourite Fall accessory. I have a nice pair of cognac leather ones that I got from my Grandmother last year. They keep me so warm in the winter time, plus mittens are often too inconvenient (or at least, for me). Gloves are a great accessory to step up your look. These three pairs of gloves I picked are from (left to right) Coach, Vivienne Westwood, and Halogen and they are all linked as well!

Glove 1

I like to mix up my glove wear between leather and cotton, depending on what kind of day it is. If I know that I am going to be using my hands a lot or carrying a lot of things, I go for cotton because it is easier fabric to move your fingers around in. However, if we are talking about style, than I always pick leather over anything else. Like I said, my favourite pair of gloves are cognac leather, but these three that I have picked out are right in trend. The variations of plaid (red, neutral and blue) are perfect for the Fall and Winter seasons and will keep you toasty warm.

The Plaid Scarf. Everyone loves a good blanket scarf, but these aren’t the only types of plaid scarves there are! Plaid scarves are probably the most common accessory you will find in my closet, only because they are so easy and quick to style. These three scarves that I picked are from (left to right) Style & Co., Lord & Taylor, and Garage and they are all linked as well!

         Scarf 3

You have the classic Burberry scarf that is probably the most attractive type of plaid out there (personally, one of my favourite patterns), the red plaid scarf and then the infamous blanket scarf. I own a couple of blanket scarves and they are probably the best types of scarves out there (I could go on and on about them…really)! I really love the red plaid scarves for the Fall/Winter seasons because they are so festive and really step your look up (especially in the Winter).

So that’s all I have to say on plaid accessories. They are really great to have, and even if you only have the scarf…work it! I have to say, the pattern is super fun to style and accessorize, and as we transition more into the Winter season, you will see a lot of plaid come out in trend. All of the items I mentioned are linked up here and down below…I have also included a few other links below to items that I love but did not feature! Enjoy!

What is the best plaid item you have ever seen? Do you own any plaid treasures? Let me know in the comments below!!

Transition your Wardrobe: Summer Dresses

TRANSITIONINGAlthough we all love the Fall season, it is sad to say good bye to Summer. The hot, burning sun is gone, the cool Summer breezes are history and until next year, your best bet is to stash those Summer pieces away, right? Well, just hang on one second. There are a few select pieces that you can use in the Fall season that you may not think of. Today, I am going to show you some examples of transitioning your Summer dresses so you can hold on to that last little glimpse of the Summer season.

With the right accessories, you won’t have to say goodbye to your cute little sun dresses that you thought were only for Summer! I am going to show you by using these simple tips, you will keep the Summer looks alive, with a Fall twist.

Work that Utility Vest. The utility vest is probably the easiest way to dress up a summer dress. Take a look at this super cute black and white thin stripe t-shirt dress (left). This is a really cute Summer look…so why would you want to toss it in the back of your closet, until the hot summer rays rain down again? You wouldn’t. Now, take a look at how she transitioned this dress into Fall wear (right). The khaki utility vest brings in the Fall tones, completely transitioning the outfit into a different season (yes, it is that easy…)

Short Sleeve Stripes Dress. Throw on cute little sneakers or flip flops and it's a casual day at the beach:):      Striped dress + utility vest

Recycle those Florals! Floral is often seen as a “Summer-only” pattern. For a while, I totally agreed with that statement, however this season, we are seeing a lot more patterns come into play for the Fall. I have been seeing florals recycled into Fall outfits (which I have to admit, is not so bad). Now, the two photos below are different dresses/patterns (obviously), but I would like to point out, just because the bright colours (left) are typically styled for Summer, doesn’t mean you couldn’t transition this type of bright pattern like the darker outfit shown (right). Fall doesn’t have to be dark tones across the board…we need a little bright colour in our lives!! How she layered with the belt, knit infinity, cardigan and (especially) the tights are an excellent way to transition your cute Summer sundress.

Floral Rose Dress. Pink Cardigan. Teen Fashion. By-Iheartfashion14 →follow←:      Scarf and Tights with cute dress. Great fall ...:

Don’t put that LBD away. I always love to find a way to keep wearing the little black dress (or six) that I own. First of all, black pretty much flies in any season (never put away the black). Again, this is a great example of layering. I wouldn’t say that you had to layer the little black dress if you wanted to wear it out…but if you want to keep cozy and go for that true, Fall look…then pay attention to this lady with the puppy (right). She has accessorized with an oversized cardi (love!), and wine accessories (my love for wine is strong…). This is one look to replicate for the Fall, for sure. As an added bonus, the high knee socks top this look off.

Love this dress! Check out some similar ones from Southern Elle Style http://www.shopsouthernelle.com/blogfeed/the-4-types-of-lbds-you-should-own:      I would like this outfit a million times better if the model took her socks off:

Those are my three best ways to transition Summer dresses. I would have loved to show you my rendition of these outfits (and I probably soon will)…but between essays, papers and volunteer work…there just wasn’t enough time to prep it for you. Perhaps I will come out with a part two of this post (hmmm, the wheels are turning!).

How do you transition your dresses? Do you step out in your Summer florals in the Fall? Let me know in the comments below!!

#WishlistWednesday: Infinity Scarves

BannerWednesday is probably my favourite day of the week! I get to go through my wishlists, it’s almost the weekend, and best of all, I get to sleep in (no morning class, woohoo!!). I am especially excited for this Wednesday because I get to break down my love for infinity scarves.

What is an infinity scarf? An infinity scarf is a scarf that has no ends. Literally, that is the definition. It’s basically a loop that you just pull over you neck – easy to style, looks cute and keeps you warm (especially when those chilly Fall winds are blowing).

Last year, I really got into the infinity scarf – especially the huge wool or knit ones. I love how you can bury your face in them and how they are so cozy. Some of my favourite Fall looks include infinity scarves (the big cozy ones), and unlike a blanket scarf or a regular long scarf, they are so easy to style. Just plump them up around your neck just the way you want them and you are ready to go!!

Chunky Knit Infinity ScarfPaula Bianco at Nordstrom Rack, $22.97

Does this not look like the warmest scarf ever? I would love to have this thing around my neck all day!! This is the kind of scarf that would keep you nice and toasty in the Winter time, but act as the perfect focal accessory in the Fall. I love the pattern throughout and the colour is gorgeous. This scarf also comes in cream, which would just be beautiful in the Fall.

Pretty Little Things XL Heavy Scarf, shoptiques.com, $39.00

I love the colour maroon (partially because that is my university colour), because it is dark but not depressing. Sometimes, the colour black drowns a person out. Too much black or navy can make the look too dark, but with maroon, the there is still that brightness of red mixed in so that it breaks up a look. Also, when put against a cream or white backdrop (whether you are wearing cream pants or a sweater, like in the photo below), it really pops and becomes the draw of anyone’s eye! That’s exactly what I love about this heavy scarf! It draws the eye.

Colourblock Infinity ScarfPaula Bianco at Nordstrom Rack, $22.97

I’m surprised I haven’t written about colour blocking yet…because I am a huge fan of it. Coloru blocking is when blocks of solid colour are worn in one outfit. Whether you do this yourself by wearing solids together, or buy items that are already colour blocked…it’s a great trend and so easy to do. This scarf is colour blocked which is interesting because it is knit. I think the colour block throughout the knitting looks fabulous and so chic. It kind of gives you your colour scheme right there, so pairing this with the right outfit would be simple (stick within that colour scheme).

Well there it is…all of the infinity scarves on my wishlist right now! I have to say, I have a thing for specifically knit scarves, it seems! They are just so comfortable to wear with a cardigan or just a long sleeved tee and step up your look when you’re in a hurry!! No need for jewelry (well, I mean you can still wear jewelry with a scarf…), just throw on the scarf and dash out the door!

Look forward to an upcoming post that I will do on styling infinity scarves!! Not there are too many ways to style them, but there are other pieces in your wardrobe that look great with them…and you may not even have thought to combine the two!! I should do that in the next week or so…

All scarves featured in this post are linked below for your shopping needs!!

Do you have a specific infinity scarf that you love? Or a favourite way to wear it? Let me know in the comments below!!
