Pinterest Finds of the Week: The Last Four

PINTEREST FINDS OF THE WEEKIn the past, I have picked a topic or area of fashion to review with regard to what pins I have pinned that week. Whether I have focused on the colour pink, or trendy fashion, I have shown you the pins that I have found and liked, and reviewed them right here for you!

Well, today, I don’t want to have such a structure as that. I am going to go into my board now, with no knowledge of what I have just pinned and just choose the most recent four. Why am I doing this? Well, this way you can see the cross section of styles that I truly like – because I do have a cross section. Sometimes I love midriff tops, sometimes I am dying over oxfords under sweaters…it truly depends on the way it is styled…so here we go:

For this post, I am going to use my oh-so-populated board, “Dream Closet”

Pinterest Dream Board

There we go…You can see that I am kind of digging the Fall looks (but who isn’t?). So let’s get to reviewing, shall we?

What caught my eye to pin this? That’s easy…the olive shirt, obviously. Last week, I went over several of my favourite olive coloured items. This is one of my favourite colours right now and worn in a shirt is to-die-for, if you ask me! I don’t usually go for ripped jeans, but with this laid back look, they are totally working. I am one for cuffing my jeans. I just think it makes for an interesting and cute look (so don’t go and get your jeans hemmed!!). Another colour I obsessed with right now, is cognac. These cognac sandals and bag are probably the best accessory pieces to go with this laid back look. Plus, you can never go wrong with Steve Madden.

If you aren’t a fan of Blake Lively, we can’t be friends. Even after her GG days, I was obsessed. She has the most impeccable style and class, and of course, her husband is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s! I also kind of love that he is Canadian…but we’re talking about her! This outfit is so cute – she really works the blanket scarf well, and her bag is probably the best thing that I have seen. What I want to highlight about this look is the colour scheme! I’m not entirely sure when this photo was taken, but judging by the neutrals and blacks used throughout the look, it’s Fall (even better!). The focal point is definitely her blanket scarf, but what I like is that the bag can also be the focal point…but not so much that it is upstaging the scarf. I just love her.

Blake Lively's latest street style is all shoppable!!!:

Other than the fact that this couple is adorable…her outfit is also super cute. It kind of reminds me of Blair Waldorf (which is not a bad thing, by any means). I put these two pins together (I found them on separate occasions), only because it’s literally the same girl, same outfit. As you know, I love cable knit, blaid, winter white…everything. So this outfit is actually perfectly in accordance with my taste. I really love her red beanie hat…I think that really makes the outfit pop…otherwise the outfit is mainly neutral, ties in with the scenery and overall just a really nice look. I’d also like to point out her cognac leather gloves…those are adorable too and definitely

Black gingham shirt, white cable sweater, green plaid skirt, nude heels, red beanie, tan crossbody & sparkly necklace. Classy Girls Wear Pearls.: one of my favorite purchases this season was this plaid skirt by J.Crew; styled impeccably by Sarah Vickers.:

This is such a useful look to keep in your back pocket. It can be worn to work, but you can also wear it casually as well! The oxford dresses it up, while the skirt can play it down a bit. My favourite part of this outfit is the colour scheme (shocker!!). I really love navy blue, and the pops of red in the clutch and heels are perfectly in line with what I would wear (and love). If you didn’t want to go so dressy with the oxford (or the heels), you could switch it out with a casual vneck and flats, or even just a regular t-shirt. This is just the simplest look and really looks good in any situation!!

Would love to hijabify this.. wide leg pants in the same fabric as that skirt would be cute with the same shoes and shirt

There you have it…the new spin on “Pinterest Finds of the Week”. I kind of like this format, only because it’s not so structured…and you never know what I’m going to pin (it is my favourite pastime, you know…)!

Do you have some picks that you would like to share? Leave a link to your favourite board below and I will go have a look…I am always looking for a little pinspiration!

Homecoming Fashion: For Him

HOMECOMING FASHIONIt’s that time of year again…time for homecoming!! Woohoo! I can’t put into words how excited I am for this year’s homecoming game/weekend. Why am I so excited, you ask? Well, because it is my last homecoming! Everything is ready to go for this weekend – plans have been made, outfits have been planned…it’s all ready to go and this will be the best year ever.

I may be getting a little off track…now to what I actually want to tell you about today. Last week, I detailed women’s homecoming fashion and what to wear for the various events that go along with homecoming (parties, tailgates, the game itself…) and different types of weather! This week, I will be discussing…

Men’s Homecoming Fashion.

I’m sure many men don’t give their outfit a second thought when it comes to football – who cares about style when the game is on, right? Wrong. Although you are at a football game, or at the tailgate party…you should have some kind of school spirit somewhere on you, and it doesn’t hurt to dress for the occasion as well! Besides, there are right and wrong things to wear to a football game…even if it is super casual style! Just wait…you will see what I mean…

Tailgating in Style. Okay, so I know that what you wear is not your top priority when partying it up at the tailgate…but you may want to keep these tips in mind when dressing yourself for the event. Why? Well, because you want to look great, don’t you!!

Untitled

I am obsessed with men’s khaki shorts. I know, it’s is strange, but true. I just think that they are such a good option for men if they don’t feel like wearing pants!! The long-sleeved shirt and shorts look is a favourite of mine as well – especially for Fall. This outfit will keep you semi-warm for the cool Fall weather, and still have you looking sharp for the tailgate!! I threw the drawstring bag in there as a way to carry any game necessities you might need!

Cheering them to the Win. Homecoming can take place anywhere from mid-September to late October…and depending on what time the game is set, it may be a little nippy outside, or it could be sweltering hot! It’s important to dress for the weather, and with this look, you will be all set to go – no matter rain or shine!!

2

This is one of my about its casual looks for men. Casual is just as good as dressed up, in my opinion. At a football game, you want to be comfortable and what’s more comfortable then chucks, jeans and a cozy half-zip? With or without the scarf, this look is stylish and laid back, so cheering your team on can be you number one priority!

Victory Party Time. If you didn’t dress your best for the tailgate or the game, this is your time to shine. This is the look that matters, because this is most likely where you will be trying (more or less) to be interactive, meet people and look your best, of course!! Whether you are heading to a party, going downtown to the bars, or just hanging out with a few people after the game, you want to be looking sharp!

3

This is a great going out look. Yes, the sweater may be a little casual, however, you can always switch that out for a blazer, or if the setting is right, simply leave the additional piece at home and just work the black v-neck for the night! I want to highlight these shoes before I move on…penny loafers may seem like an older style, but I looove them! They are so classic and debonair – I definitely approve and recommend all men give them a try. If I see one more male wear a pair of New Balance shoes to the bar…not cool.

Well, there you go! You have your three common and classy looks for homecoming. The ladies will love you, you’ll be dressed to impress and be totally on your game (while watching the game…)! Although you may not consider homecoming to be the high fashion event of the year, it definitely is the time to bring out the nice clothing and look your best…why not start the year off with a good look?

#WishlistWednesday: Infinity Scarves

BannerWednesday is probably my favourite day of the week! I get to go through my wishlists, it’s almost the weekend, and best of all, I get to sleep in (no morning class, woohoo!!). I am especially excited for this Wednesday because I get to break down my love for infinity scarves.

What is an infinity scarf? An infinity scarf is a scarf that has no ends. Literally, that is the definition. It’s basically a loop that you just pull over you neck – easy to style, looks cute and keeps you warm (especially when those chilly Fall winds are blowing).

Last year, I really got into the infinity scarf – especially the huge wool or knit ones. I love how you can bury your face in them and how they are so cozy. Some of my favourite Fall looks include infinity scarves (the big cozy ones), and unlike a blanket scarf or a regular long scarf, they are so easy to style. Just plump them up around your neck just the way you want them and you are ready to go!!

Chunky Knit Infinity ScarfPaula Bianco at Nordstrom Rack, $22.97

Does this not look like the warmest scarf ever? I would love to have this thing around my neck all day!! This is the kind of scarf that would keep you nice and toasty in the Winter time, but act as the perfect focal accessory in the Fall. I love the pattern throughout and the colour is gorgeous. This scarf also comes in cream, which would just be beautiful in the Fall.

Pretty Little Things XL Heavy Scarf, shoptiques.com, $39.00

I love the colour maroon (partially because that is my university colour), because it is dark but not depressing. Sometimes, the colour black drowns a person out. Too much black or navy can make the look too dark, but with maroon, the there is still that brightness of red mixed in so that it breaks up a look. Also, when put against a cream or white backdrop (whether you are wearing cream pants or a sweater, like in the photo below), it really pops and becomes the draw of anyone’s eye! That’s exactly what I love about this heavy scarf! It draws the eye.

Colourblock Infinity ScarfPaula Bianco at Nordstrom Rack, $22.97

I’m surprised I haven’t written about colour blocking yet…because I am a huge fan of it. Coloru blocking is when blocks of solid colour are worn in one outfit. Whether you do this yourself by wearing solids together, or buy items that are already colour blocked…it’s a great trend and so easy to do. This scarf is colour blocked which is interesting because it is knit. I think the colour block throughout the knitting looks fabulous and so chic. It kind of gives you your colour scheme right there, so pairing this with the right outfit would be simple (stick within that colour scheme).

Well there it is…all of the infinity scarves on my wishlist right now! I have to say, I have a thing for specifically knit scarves, it seems! They are just so comfortable to wear with a cardigan or just a long sleeved tee and step up your look when you’re in a hurry!! No need for jewelry (well, I mean you can still wear jewelry with a scarf…), just throw on the scarf and dash out the door!

Look forward to an upcoming post that I will do on styling infinity scarves!! Not there are too many ways to style them, but there are other pieces in your wardrobe that look great with them…and you may not even have thought to combine the two!! I should do that in the next week or so…

All scarves featured in this post are linked below for your shopping needs!!

Do you have a specific infinity scarf that you love? Or a favourite way to wear it? Let me know in the comments below!!

Fall Essentials: Top Five

Fall Essentials

Happy Fall! It is officially the Fall season and the fashion is changing!! Good bye rompers, hello sweaters. For today’s post, (as you can see) I have compiled a few of my very favourite essentials when dressing in Fall. Most of the items shown above will be linked at the end of this post so you can get your essentials before the season goes into full swing!

The Plaid Shirt. This has become an absolute staple in my wardrobe – especially for the Fall season. There are so many ways you can wear a plaid shirt. My favourite way is open with an accent tank underneath. However, you can also wear it tied around your waist, or just as a regular button up!

The Excursion Vest. Vests are a great transition piece for the Fall season. When the weather is getting a little nippy, but you can’t stand to wear your parka just yet, this is an excellent option. I get my excursion or “puffer” vests from J.Crew Factory, but I have also found them at Old Navy in the past!

The Elbow Patch Sweater. This is one trend that I love. Soft knit sweaters with faux or real leather patches on the elbows! Although sweaters are a must-have during the Fall season, the elbow patch feature steps up your fashion game.

The Infinity Scarf. Infinity scarves are the best way to jazz up an outfit and keep warm. Infinity scarves come in all types of fabrics, but the woolen knit scarves are the best!! They can become the focal point of your look, or they can just simply keep you warm as Fall turns to Winter.

The Ankle Booties. I recently did a post on how much love ankle booties. Well, they are the perfect shoe for Fall. Closed toe is my favourite for Fall so that the warmth stays in. The only thing with booties, is you can’t necessarily wear them when the snow comes around – which is why they are perfect for the Fall season!

These are the essentials, but there are many other items that I could put on this list!! These are just the top five…can you tell how excited I am to wear Fall clothing? I’ve only been talking about it for a month now…

How excited are you for Fall? Are you beginning to wear your Fall clothes yet? Let me know in the comments below.

Outfit Details: Rural Life

There are many things to appreciate in life, and one of those things is a rural sunset. I love them and even more so, I love taking photos of the sunset. Which is why I like these photos, and the outfit that went with it! It was a beautiful night, so I decided to snap a few…

But the real reason I was on that farm road, was to capture this cute summer get up I put together! Other than dragging my sister to be my professional photographer (thanks sis), we had a grand old time. There isn’t much to this little number, but I want to share it as it is one of my favourite looks of the summer so far! I mean, any chance I get to wear this rust coloured hat from Nordstrom, is worth it, right?

1

Rust is one of my favourite colours to coordinate in an outfit because of its versatility. You can wear it in the summer, but it transfers well into the Fall season (which is quickly approaching). It is surprisingly very hard to find a rust coloured, felt hat. Like I mentioned above, I found this one at Nordstrom last season and it is quite the find. It is my favourite hat and with such a unique colour, it can pair with many things. This was literally the last rust hat for sale in North America…so I cherish it with all my heart…

3

I just found this dress during one of my thrifting extravaganzas, and to my surprise, it was new with tags (always a definite buy!!) from H&M!! The pattern throughout the dress and then the detailing on the bottom, give it a very “boho” feel. There are two ways that I like to wear this dress – off the shoulder and on the shoulder. It has the ability to cinch at the waist, so either look is possible!

4

Another great thing about a dress like this is that it transitions well into the Fall season because of the colour scheme. I mean it is a great summer piece, and the neckline suggests that it is made for hot weather…but if you doubled it up with some cute patterned tights (in Fall colours) and a comfy cardi, you are set!

The last piece I used in this ensemble are my favourite pair of tan wedges. I found them at Le Chateau this summer and they are my go-to’s. They are the perfect height and pretty much go with anything!! They are perfect for this look particularly because of the colour scheme. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to snap a close up of them (boo!)…so you’ll have to trust me on this one. Tan is always a good colour to work with as a neutral.

2

Rust, navy and tan is a great palette and perfect for a cool summer outfit – look forward to the Fall version (I am going to try and detail that in the next month for you guys!!).

Like I said, there isn’t much to this look. Which is why it is extremely simple! All you need is a hat, sundress and a great pair of wedges! You are set!
