Outfit Details: Wrapped in a Scarf

of detailsThe day after Thanksgiving is always really relaxed and packed full of movie ‘marathon-ing’ and turkey leftovers. However today, everything re-opens and it’s time to have some fun! My week off from school is going to be full of doing fun, Fall things! Apple picking, going to the farmer’s market, and baking galore are only a few things on my list!

Today, I continue my latest series “A Thanksgiving Series of details!” by Pearls and Polkadots. Yesterday, I showed you my 2015 Thanksgiving look, which was a mix between dressy and casual, and today I want to show you my second look! There will be five outfits this week in total, so make sure you return to get the details on each look that I will be releasing!

Today’s Look: Striped long sleeve top, dark blue jeans, cognac ankle boots, blanket scarf, leopard print skinny belt, and red cross body clutch!

The weather has been so beautiful lately, which is like a mix between Summer and Fall! I am loving it! However, the long sleeve was a necessity because of the cool Fall breeze that was blowing around! I found this black and white Kate Spade Saturday striped long sleeve at Winners, if you can believe it! They are beginning to stock Kate Spade product more and more (and I am so grateful)! I love to mix patterns, and two patterns that I love wearing together are plaid and stripes.

I chose to go dark in the colour of my jeans because it doesn’t take away from the focus of the outfit, which is more in the top half of the look. The dark blue jeans are more of a neutral in this outfit than anything, however, they also seem to pick up some of the darker shades in the plaid blanket scarf. These jeans are from American Eagle Outfitters, and I have had them for a while but their jeans are really great!

These are probably my favourite pair of ankle boots! I got them on sale last year on Boxing Day from The Bay. They are Ralph Lauren and pretty much go with anything. Cognac coloured boots are my favourite because they are so warm looking. The colour is so rich and pretty that it can pick up the warm tones in any look. I chose this pair for this look because they pick up the tan in the scarf!

Blanket scarves are one of my favourite things about Fall! The plaid, the texture, the look…it’s all there and I love how throwing one on can transform your look. Adding that last piece is perfect! In fact, this look puts the focus completely on the scarf because it is the focal point of the look. There are so many ways you can wear a blanket scarf and in this look, I decided to belt it. I picked up the scarf last year from Garage Clothing, but you can pretty much find this scarf anywhere.

Stripes, plaid and leopard print is the perfect recipe for a Fall outfit. Leopard print accessories are always a good idea and in this case, it’s an excellent idea. The tan in the leopard draws out the tan in the blanket scarf and the gold buckle acts as a gold detail overall. Belting your blanket scarf is only one of many wears you can wear it and for Fall, it is such a great one!

There is nothing better than a little red cross body clutch, and this one is a dream. The detail on the bag is perfect and the colour goes with the red colour in the scarf! Little cross bodies like this one are perfect for an outing in the Fall because there is just enough space to store the things you need!

Well, those are the details of my second Thanksgiving look of the series! This outfit was so much fun to assemble and after looking at belted blanket scarf looks on Pinterest the past few weeks, it was great to get out and try and make it my own. This look is rather casual for a Thanksgiving dinner, but I would totally rock this for Thanksgiving festivities…maybe preparation of the dinner? Who knows! It screams Fall and is one of my favourites…

Outfit Details: Thanksgiving in the Fall

This past weekend was so much fun! I ate a wonderful turkey meal, got to spend quality time with the family and relax completely! It was a weekend full of happiness and love, which is my favourite kind of weekend! So what brings this weekend full of joy? Thanksgiving, that is! In Canada, we give thanks in October. Everything is perfect from the Fall colours to the smell of turkey that consumes the household!

I thought that it would be fun if this week I made Pearls and Polkadots into a landing ground for looks. Outfit details for five days in a row! There will be dressy looks, classic looks and casual looks and I am calling it “A Thanksgiving Series of details!”…so make sure you return to get the details on each look I will be putting out!!

Today’s Look: Olive green sleeveless turtleneck, tan pants, cognac boots, gold necklace, and leopard clutch!

This weekend’s weather was beautiful, and surprisingly pretty warm. So it was necessary to dress appropriately and what better to dress in than a sleeveless turtleneck? Keep in mind, it is still Fall, so it wasn’t boiling like a hot summer day. I could definitely get away with this cozy sleeveless turtleneck from Winners! The olive green is one of my favourite colours and perfect for the Fall colours that have taken over my neighborhood!

I paired the turtleneck with tan coloured pants that I picked up at Old Navy last year. These are “pixie pants”. I love them and they are my favourite pants to dress in. They stretch so they fit my shape really well, and they are comfortable because they mimic leggings! If you were reading last week, I did a whole post on how much I love the colour tan, and more specifically, tan pants! Tan pants are a staple in my wardrobe…I wear them with pretty much everything!

I am pretty much obsessed with these boots. I got them on sale last Boxing Day and they are from Guess. They aren’t too high, and the colour is so rich. I can wear the colour with everything and more importantly, they do not hurt my feet at all! The gathered leather around the calf also gives the look a neat look. They aren’t so straight legged, which is perfect when you are going for a more dressy look (like a look for Thanksgiving…).

Gold jewelry steps a look up in any case. I much prefer gold jewelry to silver jewelry, only because it goes with more. The warm undertone of the metallic gold is an added bonus in any look, especially this one. I also think that gold picks up the tones in the tan pants, which is nice. This necklace is from Ardene – I love stopping by to get inexpensive costume jewelry here (when you’re a student…you have to keep to a budget) – it does the trick and looks nice!

I have had a thing for leopard print for a while now. My sister bugs me because she thinks it’s tacky, but when used correctly, I think it can look really fun and full of style! Now, there are limits when it comes to the print. I don’t own any clothing items (shirts, sweaters, etc…) that I would wear out (except a onesie…but that’s different), but purses, belts, shoes…I love to wear because it’s a print that can really step up your look. This clutch is from J.Crew Factory and it is the perfect clutch for family gatherings because it holds pretty much everything you need!

So there are the details of my first Thanksgiving look of the series! I love assembling outfits and even more, I love giving the details! There’s something to be said about looking polished – not just for a dinner, but in general. I love to dress up and I will never stop. It is the whole reason I began this blog in the first place! Sharing what I love to do…which is dress up in outfits and take pictures! Fashion is my passion…

Outfit Details: Cozy for Fall

Now that Fall is in full swing, I have switched out my wardrobe permanently! It is the season of mini skirts, tights, sweaters, jeans, boots, and scarves – all the coziest of my wardrobe any way. In this look, I was going for comfortable in Fall, with, of course the chic look as well. These cozy items are some of my Fall favorites and make the perfect look for these chilly October days.

One the important items to keep at the front of your closet this season is your comfortable cardigans. This cardigan is one I picked up from Winners. You know when you see something and envision it with other pieces in your wardrobe? Well that’s exactly what this cardigan was. I really like the camel colour and it is softer than you can believe.

The maroon pants are actually from last season at Old Navy. Pixie pants are my favourite, because they fit my short little legs and they are always a perfect fit! I selected this pair particularly because of the maroon colour. Dark reds are very in this season, so this was an easy choice.

I don’t wear this too much because it has got a full zipper that goes up the back and that is super tricky to do on your own! However it is so, so pretty on! It is from mark. by Avon in last year’s collection. It’s a high low style which is always an added bonus. I wanted a neutral top to not overshadow the maroon accents, which is why I went with a neutral cream. Simply beautiful.

Accessories are always important, but in this case, they are more of the focal point. This is my newest add to my hat collection and is oh-so-adorable for the Fall season! I got this from Winners as well (shocker!!). I really like felt hats because they can be worn in the Summer and in the Fall. It’s the perfect transition accessory. This necklace that I am wearing is one from the mark. by Avon collection and it is beautiful on!

Last but not least, my booties. My favourite pair of ankle booties! They are a great shade of camel and perfect for the Fall season! The colour picks up on the colour in my cardigan and even can act as a semi-neutral in the look! I also love to boost my look with a great pair of heels because it makes my legs look longer! (Please excuse the growing weeds…that’s what happens when you pick an abandoned location, I guess).

Fun little fact, I shot this look with my sister at the end of August. So you can imagine that it wasn’t the coolest day! Now that Fall is here, chilly weather has arrived, I can wear all of these lovely pieces and strut away!

Falling for Fall Fashion: Trends to Watch For!

FALLING FOR FALL FASHIONCozy sweaters. Football games. Pumpkin Spice Lattes. It’s all around the corner because we are inching closer and closer to that season that everybody loves. This past weekend, I opened up my closet packed full of my winter clothing and I got excited all over again. Not to mention all of the latest trends quickly being stocked in stores (bring on those J.Crew cable knits!!).

With a new Fall season quickly approaching, I am starting to look for those key pieces to add to my wardrobe. Of course, I have a marvelous collections of sweaters, oxfords, and of course my heeled boots…but who doesn’t love to go through the new catalogs? Today, I want to show you some of the trends that make me squeal with excitement for Fall 2015.

I sifted through a bunch of my favourite blogs and catalogs in order to bring you these to-die-for trends in this post:

Cozy Knits. I am in love with my sweater collection, and I am always looking for more to add to my closet. This season, we are seeing a lot of cowel neck and over-sized sweaters in neutral tones. Personally, I love cowel necks because it eliminates the need for a big scarf, and it looks nice tucked into your pea coat. Plus, an over-sized sweater can easily be paired with jeans and a great pair of boots!

Dark shaded tights. Fall brings cooler weather, and although the temperature may not be below 0, you still want to make sure you are covered enough to keep those goose bumps from rising. But, do you need to give up wearing those cute mini’s? Absolutely not! Get yourself a pair of tights! Even better, get yourself tights in darker shades. Why? It seriously transforms your summer pieces. To date, I have only worn black tights, but this fall, I want to move into shades of wine, maroon, and navy. Too many possibilities…

Knee High Boots. I am extremely pick when it comes to the boots that I wear. In fact, it took me the entire Fall 2014 season to find a pair I actually loved. You really can never have too many pairs of knee highs. There are so many ways to wear them that investing in a good quality pair would be well worth it!! A trend that I am super into this season is the knee high boots, with the socks pulled up. I think it’s an interesting way to lengthen your leg – especially if the boot has a heel, it helps the short girls out and elongates the leg…which all of us short gals want!

Felt Hats. I have a slight obsession with hats in general. They add a bit of spunk to an outfit and this season, hats are right in style. A black felt hat is the perfect way to top off that perfect fall look. However, I am loving the colour “wine” (or maroon). This colour coordinates with black and neutrals extremely well and is a hat of this colour is really versatile. Felt hats are year round pieces that can be styled in many different ways. Whether you are dressing up a casual look (like a white tee and jeans), or are working it for Fall (with an over-sized sweater and tights), it looks chic and fabulous!

Well there you have it! I am really falling for these Fall trends and can’t wait for the cool season to grace us with it’s presence. Can the leaves turn already?! Stay tuned for an upcoming post I am planning that will address the Fall trends…for men!

Inside my Mind: Personal Goals v2

BannerOh hey again! So I said that I was going to start challenging myself every week by listing out my goals and striving to reach those goals. Throughout the month of July, I have been partaking in the #30DayWriter challenge and it has really pushed me to work on my content and have something to show for it every single day. I decided to do this after I was feeling as though I wasn’t achieving everything I wanted to, and a friend recommended I try some of the courses on Development-Academy.co.uk for personal development. I was seriously considering it when I came across this 30DayWriter challenge and thought I would give that a go instead. I never would have made it this far had it not been for all of the support that I have in family, friends and my fellow bloggers!! This past Thursday, I reached my 6-month blogiversary!! (Happy Birthday Pearls and Polkadots!!). It was such an exciting and important milestone to reach and it’s only going to get better from here!!

Last week, I set three goals for myself:

1. Reach 1000 Instagram followers – As of today, I have 963 followers (woohoo!!), so I am almost there. Still working on this goal, but that’s what goals are about!! I’d like to reach that in the next month for sure!

2. Finish the #30DayWriter challenge – this challenge began July 1 and it will end July 30 (obviously). So this is not a goal that has come to its end then, however, I have been doing very well at scheduling my posts, writing content in advance, and meeting the milestones each week!! Hooray!!

3. Begin my Thrifty Finds series – I love going to browse thrift shops on the weekends. You can find some pretty cool pieces from different eras! I always seem to find something that I can work into my wardrobe. I did not meet this goal. Although I have mapped out which pieces I am going to show you, I have not written the series yet. All in good time – so look forward to that, maybe later this month.

BONUS GOAL: Pre-write my blog posts a week in advance – I was pretty successful with this bonus goal, this week. I have gotten into the routine of writing my posts at least two days in advance and then editing a bit before they are published the next morning. It is super rewarding and has made this past week pretty simple!! I have to say, this is definitely a routine I want to keep at!

Overall, I didn’t do amazing on my first week of personal goals. However, the first two are more month-long goals! Because it is a new week, I am going to add two more goals to the list:

Learn more about LinkShare and other affiliate programs. The long term goal for this blog is to monetize it. I want Pearls and Polkadots to represent brand names through affiliate programs, or maybe lead me to being a stylist of some sorts. I have been reading up on monetizing your blog, and affiliate programs are a great way to do this (so I’ve read)…but I want to learn more about them so I know exactly how they work. Hopefully, in the next week, I will be able to make some steps towards affiliating Pearls and Polkadots OR at least learn what I have to do in order to get there!!

Line up some guest posters. Guest posting is a great way to connect and network with other bloggers. I will be guest posting on a fellow blogger’s blog in a couple of months (I won’t reveal who just yet), and I am stoked about it!! Although, I love to guest post, I want to host a few guest posters on Pearls and Polkadots. That way, I can give and get the exposure that we all need as bloggers (if this is something you are interested in, leave a comment below).

I am going to cap my personal goals at two this week. Only because I have some previous week’s goals that I still want to achieve. Four in total is plenty to keep me motivated!!
