Tulle is such a great fashion risk for a party look! Not only can you dress it up, you can also dress it down and make it look less ballerina and more chic! Who says you can’t rock a tutu in public? If I can get my hands on one of these…then I would rock it hard!

Cream + Cognac with a Splash of Plaid!

I am beyond excited to share this post with you today. Why? Well, because the photos taken for today’s outfit details post were taken at a recent Fall photo shoot with a new photographer. Her name is Diana of DPhotography and she is very good at what she does! It was my first time working with Diana, and we had loads of fun taking these photos to share with you today! So here we go..

Cream + Cognac with a Splash of Plaid!

This cream sweater from Jones New York is my favourite winter staple. The knit pattern on the front is beautiful and the warmth it provides is amazing! I always go for cream over white in the winter because I think the warm undertones look better. Winter white is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but I will take cream over white any day. I also like how the colour of the sweater draws out the white pin stripe in the plaid pattern.

This mini skirt from J.Crew Factory is to die for. I picked this baby up on my shopping spree in Ottawa and have been waiting a while to style it. Although plaid is a pattern I love for all seasons, I most love it worn in the Fall for a cute Fall look. Red and navy plaid especially is such a great pattern for the Fall (and a Fall background, like this one). This skirt is the perfect length and the hidden zipper at the back doesn’t disrupt the pattern in the least! If I were ever to fall in love with a skirt, it would be this one…one hundred percent.

By now, you should know that these boots are my favourite boots ever. They are from Guess and the cognac colour makes me so happy. I struggled a lot over which boots to wear for this look, believe it or not. Brown or black? Knee high or ankle? I couldn’t decide. I had to try on a lot of different pairs. When I slid these beauties on, I knew they were perfect. I loved the detail in the gathering of the leather, and where they hit on my calves. They were also very comfortable to wear for the hour and a half that we were shooting.

Gold is my favourite colour detail for jewelry, and with such a warm toned outfit, gold was the obvious choice. Link jewelry is one of my favourite styles. I like the chunky look and how the chunky link necklaces sit. This necklace is from Icing Jewelry. I don’t like spending copious amounts of money on accessories, but this is definitely worth it!!

Cream and cognac are my staple colours of the Fall. I love how well they work together and how neutral they act in a typical Fall look. The weather was great on this marvelous day and I couldn’t have asked for a better gal to work with! Check out DPhotography for a look at Diana’s captures. This is such a great look for Fall, and because of the sweater, it gives the outfit a casual edge. Alternatively, if it gets too cold (as we head into the Winter season) you can add in some cute tights! Always a great add in for the cooler seasons! A big thank you goes out to Diana, DPhotography!

#WishlistWednesday: Plaid Accessories

#WISHLISTWEDNESDAYI really love the plaid pattern and really anything that it comes in. There have been several new plaid trends in the past year, and one of them that I am loving is plaid accessories. Whether it is red, green or black with grey hues, it is absolutely marvelous and I am excited to show you the fabulous accessories that I have found for you! Bags, gloves, and scarves – the whole lot is here today.

Similar to my “Booties, booties, booties” post that I released a couple of weeks ago, I am going to show you three groupings of plaid accessories and only the best that I have chosen to talk about! Plaid is such a staple in the Fall, whether you wear it in a flannel shirt, pants or even in an accessory. I love working with plaid accessories because they put the right spin on your outfit and take it to the next level! Most people associate plaid with Christmas, but I associate with the entire Fall and Winter season! Since the season is quickly approaching, why not break out the plaid accessories?

The Plaid Bag. Whether it comes in a tote, handbag or clutch, plaid is in for this season. Personally, I am in love with the red plaid bag on the right. I like the structure and the colour scheme…pretty much the entire bag (to be honest!!). These three gorgeous bags I picked are from (left to right) Kate Spade New York, Lauren Ralph Lauren, and Tory Burch and they are all linked for your shopping enjoyment!

Being that plaid is a pattern that you can mix with so many great colour schemes, in a bag, it can also be the focal point of your outfit. Pair that red plaid bag with a black neutral background, then BAM! There’s a statement. If you want to go fore more of a neutral plaid pattern, then the middle and far right bag are the bags to do so. The colour schemes aren’t so harsh and have more colours to pick up in an outfit. Plus, the blue clutch is adorable!!

The Plaid Glove. Gloves are probably my favourite Fall accessory. I have a nice pair of cognac leather ones that I got from my Grandmother last year. They keep me so warm in the winter time, plus mittens are often too inconvenient (or at least, for me). Gloves are a great accessory to step up your look. These three pairs of gloves I picked are from (left to right) Coach, Vivienne Westwood, and Halogen and they are all linked as well!

Glove 1

I like to mix up my glove wear between leather and cotton, depending on what kind of day it is. If I know that I am going to be using my hands a lot or carrying a lot of things, I go for cotton because it is easier fabric to move your fingers around in. However, if we are talking about style, than I always pick leather over anything else. Like I said, my favourite pair of gloves are cognac leather, but these three that I have picked out are right in trend. The variations of plaid (red, neutral and blue) are perfect for the Fall and Winter seasons and will keep you toasty warm.

The Plaid Scarf. Everyone loves a good blanket scarf, but these aren’t the only types of plaid scarves there are! Plaid scarves are probably the most common accessory you will find in my closet, only because they are so easy and quick to style. These three scarves that I picked are from (left to right) Style & Co., Lord & Taylor, and Garage and they are all linked as well!

         Scarf 3

You have the classic Burberry scarf that is probably the most attractive type of plaid out there (personally, one of my favourite patterns), the red plaid scarf and then the infamous blanket scarf. I own a couple of blanket scarves and they are probably the best types of scarves out there (I could go on and on about them…really)! I really love the red plaid scarves for the Fall/Winter seasons because they are so festive and really step your look up (especially in the Winter).

So that’s all I have to say on plaid accessories. They are really great to have, and even if you only have the scarf…work it! I have to say, the pattern is super fun to style and accessorize, and as we transition more into the Winter season, you will see a lot of plaid come out in trend. All of the items I mentioned are linked up here and down below…I have also included a few other links below to items that I love but did not feature! Enjoy!

What is the best plaid item you have ever seen? Do you own any plaid treasures? Let me know in the comments below!!

Fall Essentials: Top Five

Fall Essentials

Happy Fall! It is officially the Fall season and the fashion is changing!! Good bye rompers, hello sweaters. For today’s post, (as you can see) I have compiled a few of my very favourite essentials when dressing in Fall. Most of the items shown above will be linked at the end of this post so you can get your essentials before the season goes into full swing!

The Plaid Shirt. This has become an absolute staple in my wardrobe – especially for the Fall season. There are so many ways you can wear a plaid shirt. My favourite way is open with an accent tank underneath. However, you can also wear it tied around your waist, or just as a regular button up!

The Excursion Vest. Vests are a great transition piece for the Fall season. When the weather is getting a little nippy, but you can’t stand to wear your parka just yet, this is an excellent option. I get my excursion or “puffer” vests from J.Crew Factory, but I have also found them at Old Navy in the past!

The Elbow Patch Sweater. This is one trend that I love. Soft knit sweaters with faux or real leather patches on the elbows! Although sweaters are a must-have during the Fall season, the elbow patch feature steps up your fashion game.

The Infinity Scarf. Infinity scarves are the best way to jazz up an outfit and keep warm. Infinity scarves come in all types of fabrics, but the woolen knit scarves are the best!! They can become the focal point of your look, or they can just simply keep you warm as Fall turns to Winter.

The Ankle Booties. I recently did a post on how much love ankle booties. Well, they are the perfect shoe for Fall. Closed toe is my favourite for Fall so that the warmth stays in. The only thing with booties, is you can’t necessarily wear them when the snow comes around – which is why they are perfect for the Fall season!

These are the essentials, but there are many other items that I could put on this list!! These are just the top five…can you tell how excited I am to wear Fall clothing? I’ve only been talking about it for a month now…

How excited are you for Fall? Are you beginning to wear your Fall clothes yet? Let me know in the comments below.

#WishlistWednesday: Mad for Plaid Skirts

A while ago, I wrote a post about my endless love for plaid. That endless love has filtered its way into this post as I detail a few of the upcoming trendy skirts that have made it onto my wishlist. We have seen many media icons sport the good old plaid thread, which is why it has resurfaced in the trend cycle over and over again.

Let’s look at those very media icons…

Cher from Clueless, Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl…they both have worn this amazing pattern, and in a few short months, I hope to do the same. But the only way I am going to get to do that, is if I get myself a little plaid skirt!

Factory Plaid Mini-skirtJ.Crew Factory, SOLD OUT

I don’t normally put things that are sold out on my wishlist, but I have a feeling this skirt will be brought back. It is normally $92.50, and for a good reason. I tried this skirt on during my outlet haul, but silly me thought that I could put this purchase off until the fall! No can do, after seeing that this little number was sold out, I called up the factory outlet and ordered it immediately. So looks like the plaid outfit details will be coming sooner than you think! Red is the colour of the upcoming fall season, and I will definitely be incorporating a lot of it in the upcoming outfit details series!!

plaidskirt

Plaid Midi Pencil SkirtOld Navy, $27.50

This skirt showed up in the last fall season, only it was in mini form. This year, the midi skirt trend has really come into play and is really catching on. This comes in a deep maroon colour as well, which is also great,  but I really love the blue. Although red is a really popular colour this season, the blue plaid makes a statement and would pair well with any bright colour on the top.

Plaid Bouclé Mini SkirtForever 21, $23.90

I can’t deny my love for this black and white gingham plaid pattern. Affordable, cute and practical are just three words to describe this beauty! You can wear this all-year round – winter, summer, spring and fall. Mixing this with different pieces to change up the look would be ideal for this plaid piece! Personally, my favourite look for this piece would involve black tights, some heels and a pop of colour on top!

I love summer,  but I cannot wait for fall and the looks that come with it!! Whether you are shopping on Main St., heading to class, or going to work…nothing says style like a good plaid skirt. Besides…everyone needs a little Blair Waldorf in their life!!
