My Olive Picks!

BannerAs we inch closer to the Fall season, cool weather and regular sightings of gloves, boots and coats…we start to see a trend in the colour palettes of our closets. Well, at least my closet. A lot of maroon, neutrals, and deep khaki greens. Well, in today’s post, I am going to go through some of my favourite pieces in the beautiful colour olive. Some people may like to refer to this colour as “military green” or “khaki”. I, personally, like the label “olive” because it kind of encompasses all of those different shades.

This colour really pairs well with other dark or neutral tones. Even if you wanted to pair it with a springy colour like pink or red, it would still be okay. Obviously, for the Fall season, the colour trends tend to keep within those dark and neutral hues. I adore this colour for outerwear and pants, personally. However, there are so many pieces that look so chic when you pair them with the right pieces…which I am going to go over today. I am going to show you two things today

1) My choice olive looks.

2) Where you can find some great olive items.

This is one of my favourite ways to wear olive – in an outerwear or coat. It doesn’t really take the focus because it is a rather neutral colour, but it just compliments the other colours seen throughout the look. How the cognac bag plays off the olive colour, with the white tank underneath (which totally lightens the look up). It minimizes the core focal point of the jacket, and puts the focus on the leopard print booties (did you notice those beauties??). Overall, the olive utility jacket is very casual, and makes for a great Fall outerwear.

If this doesn’t scream Fall, I don’t know what does. The olive pants, the navy gingham shirt, the colour block bag!? It’s great. It is such a great use of the colour as well. Why? Olive can be seen as a neutral (as I have already pointed out) and this outfit puts that into a great example. The focal point of this look is the patterned shirt. You aren’t staring at her pants (unless you’re me…because I love this colour). You may be looking at the colour blocked bag, because it is so cute. The pants fade into the background…but that is what this colour is supposed to do. Jeans wouldn’t look right with the pattern and colour block. Black pants wouldn’t go with the navy (navy and black = no). She needed a dark tone to go with the rest of the colour scheme…here we have olive. That is why this look is so perfect.

Okay, so this may be a different shade of olive. It’s “dark olive”….nevertheless, it is still such a cute outfit she has got on here. THIS is where olive becomes the focal point. Anytime you are wearing a dress, the dress is most often the focal point of your look…because it is the look. Her necklace pulls out the green perfectly, her shoes are just the right shade of brown…and that’s it. No bag, minimal jewelry…that’s how to wear a dark olive dress, for sure.

Blanket scarves are back and just like last year, they are the comfiest trend there is. This olive and grey colour blocked one from Nordstrom in particular is super cute and will keep you toasty warm in the nippy Fall air. Now, this travel bag from Soul Society can keep travelling in style, but as a bag, it is the perfect tote to carry around with you. This knit sweater from Michael Kors is definitely one to keep cozy in this season. The colour is beautiful and the turtle neck is just an added bonus!!

Well, there you have it – my olive picks. Hopefully you will take a look at these cute pieces that I love or find your own fabulous pieces to style! Olive can be a neutral, or it can be the main focus of your look. It is a Fall colour that I can’t pass up! Let me know how you wear this colour in the comments below!

My Camel Picks!

Banner

The Fall colour palette is always something to look forward to! A couple of weeks ago, I showed you exactly how much I love the colour wine! Well, in today’s post, I am going to go through some of my favourite pieces I have come across lately in the colour camel. This neutral colour is all the rage this season (as I have pointed out several times in the last month) and it makes me giddy to think that all of these picks are being sold right now! Can I go shopping please?

What exactly qualifies as “camel”…because that’s an animal right? Well, yes…that’s true, camel is an animal…but it is also a fabulous neutral colour that falls right in line with this season. There is nothing I love more than a good wardrobe neutral, but this colour doesn’t even have to be a neutral! That’s what is so amazing about it! You can literally make it the focus colour in your outfit, and not look washed out or drab (provided it is worn properly of course). Not to worry…I have lined up some great examples that I am going to review right now. I am going to show you two things today:

1) My choice camel looks.

2) Where you can find some great camel items.

This is one of my favourite ways to wear camel – in a outerwear or coat. See how it becomes the focus rather than the neutral or compliment in this outfit? She is wearing all black underneath with all black accessories, acting as a blank canvas for the camel coat to be displayed on. Even better, instead of wearing black or another colour in the shoe, she wore camel strappies…which really just completes the look.

This is another great way to wear the colour. In the accessories. A soft, camel-coloured scarf is perfect…pair it with a hand bag and other marvelous accessories and you have a great overall look. I especially love the winter white sweater and how it goes so well with the camel. It’s important to note that because camel is a neutral, it goes really well with other neutrals (black, white, etc…)

Like I mentioned above, having an all black ensemble and then adding pops of camel through accessories is a great way to wear the colour. I own a few camel hats and they are great to accessorize with. The one that I debuted in the banner above is also a great one (it will be linked below for your perusal)! Even in the Fall, headgear is amazing to wear and great to style with. It takes your outfit up a notch, and with a neutral hat like this one, you can really wear it with anything…

Stick to all black and add pops of print or colour in your accessories. The look for wandering stylishly around Paris / the love assembly:

Camel Hat camel ponchocamel bag

Like I said, I am obsessed with camel hats and this one is perfect for transitioning into the Fall season. I love how it features a cute band around the rim, to add that extra bit of glam! This poncho sweater is from Michael Kors and although, I don’t own a lot of his product, I have my sights set on this gorgeous knit!! I could style this to no end!! Of course, how could I not choose a Kate Spade bag to be in my top three for the post? This bag is timeless and really can be worn all through the year!!

Well, there you have it – my camel picks. Hopefully you will take a look at these cute pieces that I love or find your own fabulous pieces to style! Camel is one of the neutrals that is really making a come out this season and so it should be!! Let me know how you wear this neutral in the comments below!

My Wine Picks!

MyMy mind is fluttering at the thought of Fall colours, coming into the cool season. Last week, I talked to you about a very attractive colour palette for fashion in the autumn weather that we are all looking forward to. Well, in today’s post, I am going through some of my favourite wine-coloured picks that are on the market right now! Let me just say that this little extension of #WishlistWednesday, is the perfect post to tide you over until the weekend (that’s when we all go on shopping sprees, right?) and you may want to keep this beauty of a colour in mind!

Some people call it burgundy, maroon or crimson…but wine is truly the perfect name for the colour! Why? Well, wine comes in several shades. It really encompasses all of those colours and by referring to it with this label, people definitely will know what you mean when you talk about it (assuming everyone is talking about the labels of shades and colours…). With wine in mind, maybe this post will inspire you to visit somewhere like glendale cellars, hopefully in some of your finest wine clothes, too!

Whether you are wearing a wine accessory, like the beautiful felt hat I have linked from Nordstrom, or making a statement in wine with a jumpsuit, like the satin beauty I have linked from J.Crew – wine is the colour to hunt for! I have picked up some wine coloured sweaters for this season and I can’t wait to strut my stuff in them as the leaves turn colour. I am going to show you two things today:

1) My choice wine looks.

2) Where you can find some great wine items.

This is a great look and a perfect example of how to wear the colour. Paired with complimentary shades – black and white. What I love most about this look (in addition to the wine) is how coordinated every accessory is. The black fedora and matching bag match the leather skater skirt. The use of black and white are almost “neutrals” in a way, making the wine jacket pop completely.

This is the perfect Fall look and one I cannot wait to replicate. The wine, worn in the pant and accessories compliment the camel coloured cardigan very well. I am really loving this bag that she is carrying, by the way. I think that wine bags are completely appropriate for the season and pair really well if you don’t want to strut with wine being the main colour in your look. That being said, a wine coloured pant is not the ultimate statement – if you wear a darker shade of wine (nearing burgundy) with a lighter coloured top, it will downplay and take the focus away from the pant.

This is a super cute way to incorporate wine into a look. Wine tights are a thing, and I love it! It is so different from the usual black or navy, and I love the different look it portrays! Especially in this look, there are so many darker shades of colorus (navy, brown, etc.) and the wine really plays well off the floral pattern in the dress! I hadn’t actually seen wine coloured tights until today on Pinterest, which is one reason why this look has made into today’s post…and why I will be picking up a pair of wine tights!

The items that I showed in the three outfit reviews, are unfortunately not linked below. However, I have linked the items I picked out for my banner (which are all available in-store right now – just use the links below!!). My top three items of my wine picks are:

I have a thing for wierd items and this furry clutch falls into that category completely. Not only is it cute and quirky, it would be a great pillow on the commuter train! This jumpsuit has been on my radar for a while…I just need it to go on sale (if only it would go on sale!!) and then I can snatch it right up. Finally, this anchor bracelet is adorable. I looove anchors and how simple casual is this? Such an easy bracelet to wear in any season, really!

Well, there you have it – my wine picks. Hopefully you will take these cute pieces into consideration (or find your own fab pieces!!). Wine is the Fall colour that’s taking over, and I am perfectly okay with that!! Let me know how you wear this shade in the comments below!

Pinterest Finds of the Week: Fashion Forward Features!

PINTEREST FINDSSo about two weeks ago, I pulled some of my favourite pink finds that I pinned on Pinterest from my oh-so-active “Dream Closet” board. One of my go-to pastimes is scrolling through the pages of Pinterest, finding ensembles that I lose my mind over because they are so cute. I’m pretty picky with what I pin to the board, because it represents the style that I love: preppy and classic with a hint of trendy (too specific?)

This week, I found some pretty fashion forward looks that I think are definitely worth sharing! Please keep in mind that I have taken these photos from Pinterest directly. They are all linked, so if you would like to navigate to the source of the look, click on the image! In this post, I am going to state exactly what caught my eye about the look and what I like about it best (because I must give you my opinion…obviously).

I L-O-V-E this outfit. I came across this when I was searching for a fashion forward, business casual look for work. For those of you who follow me on Instagram (@mystyyle), you know that I must dress in business casual five days a week (for work). Work clothing can be super boring, and trust me, sometimes there just isn’t a way to jazz up a pantsuit…but this look definitely is how you would do it. What I love about this outfit the most is the blazer. It isn’t so traditional, but it still is appropriate to wear to work. The other thing I love is the colour scheme. Grey is right in style right now, and this dark grey with the black accents is a perfect look.

How simple and adorable is this look? You could wear this in the spring, summer and even fall (until it gets super cold, of course!!). The pale pink pants are fun, airy and girly (just the right amount), the shoes are to die for (metallic silver?? come on!!), and the muted grey top is perfect, completing the entire look. The silver shoes and the grey crop play off each other, with the pink acting as a mediator between the two. What drew me to this look initially? The pink pants, to be honest with you – I love pink and it totally jumped out at me!

This dress is the perfect summer dress. It has all of the preppy essentials as well (stripes, colour blocking, etc.). I have a shirt that is similar to this dress, which is what caught my eye initially. I have a thing for stripes. I love the pattern, whether they are running vertically or horizontally, thick or thin, I am on board. This is no exception, because it isn’t your typical stripe pattern – it’s colour blocked! Someday, I will write a post on colour blocking,  because it is a trend that certainly has caught on in my closet. The simplicity of this outfit is awesome. Everything is coordinated so well, from the fedora to the bangles on her wrist. This is a job well done…or an outfit well styled (hehe).

Well, there are my fashion forward picks for the week!! If you want to see more “Pinspiration“, you can head over to my board “Dream Closet” (linked on the side bar). I love a good outfit round up and that’s exactly what Pinterest is!! One giant catalogue of amazing things!!

What are your thoughts on these looks? Let me know in the comments below!!
