These are a few of my Favourite Things…

BannerWhen I was little, my Mom used to sing me to sleep and one of the main songs she would sing me is My Favourite Things from the musical The Sound of Music. I love this song so much and every time I hear it, I think of my Mom. So today, because I was doing a little thinking back (and because it is #throwbackthursday), I am going to throw it back to this memory, and tell you some of my favourite things that I am loving right now!

Although red roses are romantic and beautiful, there is nothing better than the colour pink! I love pink (shocking, I know) and these hot pink roses are right up my alley. Being that it was my birthday this past weekend, I was absolutely showered by my beautiful friends and family…and that included pink roses from my best friend (she knows me all too well).

I obviously love pearls (Pearls and Polkadots)…so it probably doesn’t shock you how much I love pearls. Especially this factory multi-strand pearl necklace from J.Crew Factory! I have rocked this piece so many times before and every time, I love how it looks. The cream tone, the gold accents…and just overall how many there are!! I love them!!

It’s kind of hard for me to rock hats because I am always in lecture (and trust me, people do not appreciate the big floppy hats in front of them…), but when the time comes and I’m not in school…it’s hats, hats and more hats. My hat collection keeps growing and no wonder because they are the perfect accessory. This one is from mark.Avon from roughly a year ago.

Chunky jewelry is one of my favourite types of accessories. I would love it if I my own personal wall of chunky jewelry (jewelry goals). This pale pink-coral chunky bracelet is one of my go-to’s when I am chunking up the accessories in an outfit. This colour goes with a lot of different things, and even though it’s super chunky…it is still not so overpowering – one colour, one type of stone…and you’re good!

My desk is a mess. That is no joke. I try to keep it clean (I am actually writing on it now), but usually it is stacked high with books. However, that does not mean that I can’t make it look nice with cute accessories like this Kate Spade New York eraser. Imagine bringing that to a final? It’s actually a real eraser and it does the job well…but way too big to bring to an exam…pure decoration only!

Well there you have it – a few of my favourite things…I may have to continue this next Thursday for #tbt. We will have to see!

Happy Thursday everyone!

Cool Fall Tones + Creams

What a cool week this has been! No school, Thanksgiving celebrations, and a surprise birthday party (two months early)! Not only did all of that happen, but my family and I also had our Christmas card photo shoot (or tried…it was very windy!). While we were out, I took advantage of the fact that my sister is handy with her camera…and I was wearing my new scarf and pearls…so voila!

Sweater: Mom’s Closet (similar here) / Jeans: Old Navy / Infinity Scarf: Garage Clothing (similar here and here) / Boots: Guess (similar here and here) / Necklace: J.Crew Factory / Bracelet: Aldo (similar here)

Pearls are my favourite accessory…and this multi-strand of factory pearls from J.Crew Factory is the perfect accessory around!! Cowl necks are a great Fall piece. I, personally, love the lighter cowl neck sweaters because they aren’t so heavy. I literally just picked this infinity scarf up when I went to the mall on Friday and it is a mustard colour (absolutely beautiful and rustic!!). I chose this because it really went with the backdrop well. My cognac boots from Guess are my favourite picks right now and since I have rambled on and on for a week about them, I will just leave it at that!

Where I am from, we have cool colours in the Fall…reds, oranges, yellows and even the greens are beautiful! It was quite the windy day…but we got some great shots! It’s always hard to get a photo of the entire family when there is wind, a tired dog, and four different people with different things they want in the shot. The most important thing is that it is another memory for the memory bank! Plus, I got to spend the entire day with my beautiful family – nothing I love more.

Have a lovely Monday!

Outfit Details: the Silver Anniversary

I’m not much of an event planner, but I do kick it into high gear when I need to (if I do say so myself) and for a co-hostess of a silver anniversary party, you have to look like you’re ready to put on a perfect event. Which is why I am so happy that I had the perfect outfit to wear! This past weekend, my sister and I hosted a beautiful high tea reception for the best parents two young girls could ask for! It was absolutely lovely and such a gorgeous day!

People always seem to struggle with what to wear to major events (weddings, baby showers, etc.). My go-to is to stick to the season, and pick a colour. That in mind, you don’t want to wear the same colour to everything you go to. Mix it up and keep it fun. For this party, I chose to wear one of my favourite dresses by Kate Spade New York.

This is Kate Spade’s “Tanner” dress in navy and white floral. It’s an absolutely gorgeous fit and is the ultimate focus of the ensemble. This is the kind of dress that you don’t want to overpower with too much jewelry, really obnoxious shoes, or any other piece for that matter. It is simple and classic, and doesn’t need anything else to make it look amazing! The only accessory I felt important to include, was the oh-so-essential string of pearls! I paired this dress with a low kitten heel shoe in nude. These shoes are a staple in my wardrobe. Believe it or not, they are from Payless Shoesource. Yes, they are inexpensive, and not the highest quality, but in my opinion, they are replaceable and comfortable to wear (they are Comfort Plus after all).

I wish my curls had held up as well as they did at the beginning of the day. Pictures were taken near the end of the reception, so my curls had fallen, but I guess the soft waves aren’t a huge fault in this overall look. I will definitely be styling this baby again soon, it has now taken the spot of my favourite dress of all time!!

It was an amazing day and high tea and such a tribute to my parent’s beautiful marriage. Happy silver anniversary Mom and Dad!

My Coral Picks!

SHOP (1)

Coral is one of my favourite colours. I love how it can be more orangey, but still have that pink undertone. This season, a lot more coral is popping up in people’s wardrobes. My favourite stores are producing great coral items that I truly love. Although it isn’t #WishlistWednesday, I am still rhyming off some of my favourite coral pieces that are being sold this season! From J Crew Factory to H&M … there are really some great pieces out there (that I want in my closet!)

What I love about what I’ve chosen for this post, is that most of it can work for dressy or casual occasions. For example, the romper shown on the very right looks very casual – and it is. However, if you wanted to dress this up with a blazer, a statement necklace (possibly the matching one shown in above) and some neutral heels, that would transform the look from casual to chic in seconds! I’ve shown what it might look like below:

Another obsession I have, is pairing coral with other colours – but not just any colours. Colours that you may not expect to be paired with the colour coral. It kind of goes with the same niche of pattern mixing. I love pairing wild and wacky colours together, because you never know what you’re going to get! Besides, if you love it, who cares about who doesn’t?? This is probably the look I am obsessed with right now. I want to replicate it (and will) and I love the two colours shown together:

Another favourite item of mine on this list is the J Crew Factory coral jacket, shown on the very left. I actually just came across this piece this week. I can see myself wearing it, it is super casual and could be a very useful summer coat! I see this being paired with white converse, ripped jeans and a ribbed tank top. Of course, some jewelry could top it right off and make the look, but because of the statement colour of the jacket, you may not even need the bling!

The last thing I want to highlight in this post, is this mark. by Avon clutch. It fades from white to coral, and really tops off any outfit. I have this on order, and can’t wait for it to arrive! This look really works with many different colours – blues, greens, black, etc. Additionally, because this clutch is not a solid colour, it isn’t so harsh and doesn’t take focus away from your overall ensemble!

There are, in total, eight items in this collage I have put together tonight. I only showcased a few of them, but trust me when I say that all of the items I picked…are amazing!! The crop tops, the shorts, the statement necklace – all of it, I selected based on my taste (and I’m guessing if you made it this far in the post, you may have the same taste that I do!) So that’s that! Tell me what your favourite colour is and where you love to shop – I am always looking for new brands to try!

May: Looking Back

It’s been a fast month (aren’t they all?). Today, I am looking back at my favourite looks from this past month. Spring is officially here, complete with rain, sunshine and nice weather! Which has certainly made my wardrobe more bright and fun! I love all of the springy colours and styles that I get to wear now that I don’t have to always think about layers! It was certainly hard choosing four picks for this month of May, but I managed!

My first look (top left) was a throw together on a Monday morning for some much needed errands. I got this cute, elephant tank top and white wrap-around cardigan from Winners (one of my favourite stores!!). My tan pants are Old Navy‘s “pixie pants” which are made for short people! Thank you to whoever created the Old Navy Gift Card it helped a lot! They are comfortable, colourful and perfect for work or play. Many people have asked me about these polka dot loafers. I got them from G. H. Bass & Co. in Pennsylvania. If you don’t own a pair of patterned loafers…you are missing out! They are so perfect and they go great with (almost) everything!

My second look (top right) was my Mother’s Day look this year . A simple, casual dress from Old Navy and a beautiful statement necklace from mark. by Avon made for the perfect look to spend with Mom that day. Of course, to top the look off, I wore my gorgeous nude, suede heels from Avon. I highly recommend them (super comfortable!!).

My third look (bottom left) was my most recent casual Friday look for work! I channeled my inner Audrey or Jackie for this look, keeping it simple with multi strands of pearls from J Crew Factory and a white shell top made by Bianca Nygard. Shockingly, my wedges are from Le Chateau! I didn’t actually know that Le Chateau had such amazing shoes, but (newsflash!) they do and they are truly amazing!!

My fourth look (bottom right) was the perfect outfit for a hot day! The top is ordered from that I found through Pinterest! This watermelon top is light, airy and fun for summer – it was absolutely key on this hot day. The olive pants are from Le Chateau, that I got on sale (music to a shopper’s ears!). The necklace is from Smart Set, which has really pretty costume jewelry. Of course, like most of my looks, my Kate Spade New York bag is featured. I highly recommend this brand as well!

Well, those are probably my favourite looks of 2015 so far because they are so fun! I love throwing my own twist on things, and I think that is well represented this month. All the way from elephants to watermelons! Looking back is always fun to do, especially because it makes the time fly! With that, I leave you with a shot of the countryside that I snapped this month:

Let June be as great as May!
