Cozy Casuals

Happy first day of March everybody! Can you believe it’s been two months of 2016 already? I can’t believe how quickly this year is moving! Spring is right around the corner, and so the month of March is going to be the month of pastels, bunnies, chicks, and all of those other Springy things that make me smile! Stay tuned, because I have some great things in store for the month of March…

As for today, I thought I would give you a little outfit inspiration for a cool Spring day! I love myself a good oversized cardigan…and there is nothing like a cozy knit from J.Crew! I am also really loving blush and nude tones for this upcoming springy season! Nude matte lip colours are my favourite and I always turn to Maybelline lip colours for some great shades. You have seen nude shades all over the place,  but I favor the pinky nudes or “blush” tones because they put rosiness into your look!

Are you loving blush as much as I am? Happy March everyone!

Make the Pants Pop

Wow is this ever a relaxing reading break! Even though it is the coldest week of the year, I am having so much fun spending it catching up with my blogging, my family and marathon-ing Full House! There is so much going on in this fun-filled month, and it is absolutely flying by! Before you know it, I am going to be going over my favourite Summer trends!

I gave you some outfit inspo on Tuesday, but I wanted to give you a double dose of inspiration this week because I couldn’t help sharing this lovely and dainty look with you! It is very J.Crew, don’t you think? I am loving this Kate Spade cross body in nude! I am also loving these adorable polka dot heels in grey – with the Spring season coming up, they are the perfect heel to boost any springy look up!

These pants totally pop in this look, which is what makes the look so fun! You could say this was another “pinspired” look, but any look that focuses on making a certain item stand out is easy to put together. Pick one item you want to make pop and dress it up with neutrals (whites, creams, beiges) and voila!

What’s your favourite colour to pop? Let me know in the comments below…

Spring Pastels

How was everyone’s long weekend? I spent all my time with my beautiful family and planning some upcoming excitement for the blog (which was a blast!!). As we get further into February, I can’t help but think about Spring! Spring colours, pastels, cute flats, distressed jeans…the whole lot of it! I am a lover of pastels and everything to do with this wonderful season and although we are knee deep in snow right now (and we are knee deep in snow), my head is in the Spring clouds!

Here is a little outfit inspiration on this frigid Tuesday! I just might need to do a little shopping at the mall on my reading break because this H&M blouse is the perfect Spring shade! Not to mention this blush nude lipstick to go with it! There are some GREAT sales coming up and although not all of these items are on sale, some of them are worth the wait (if you know what I mean)!

Style Icon: Jackie Kennedy Onassis

Banner

We all seem to admire the high profile ladies of the world when it comes to fashion. I don’t know about you, but I would love to raid Kate Middleton’s closet and have dreamed about it many, many times. When I first started out, I reviewed some of my favourite style icons, including Kate Middleton and Audrey Hepburn. Both, of which are pretty high profile people, but you cannot deny the fact that these amazing and powerful ladies harbor the most amazing style!!

Today, I am adding another wonderful style icon to the list! This first lady is practically the best dressed woman of all time!! Whether she was visiting India, sailing on a boat or boarding a plane, Jackie Kennedy Onassis was always dressed to the nines!!

Pill box hats, strands of pearls, bows and white gloves are just a few of the classic pieces Jackie brought to the forefront. In everything that she did, her style came through and never disappointed her adoring fans.

These photos that I have chosen to include in this post (all linked and sourced, by the way) are three of my most favourite looks Jackie Kennedy wore. Let’s look at the look below at this action shot of Jackie with her camera. She is sailing on a boat, and she looks like perfection – the head scarf and the dress with the classic sunglasses – absolute perfection!!

The most classic style comes through simplicity. Minimal pieces that make a statement without any flash or flare (although, I do love the flash and flare).  Sometimes, you just need a clean crisp oxford and a strand of pearls. It’s conservative, beautiful and chic all wrapped into one, and I for one, love to sport the classics every now and then!  It’s certainly better to look classic than to look classless…that’s for sure.

Jackie Kennedy (Onassis) was such a powerful woman. Not only is she a timeless style icon, but one of the great women to look up to. I love looking back at her ensembles and pieces that she chose to wear – always looking so full of life and elegance!!

If you love Jackie O as much as I do, you need to check out this book. It is a picture book of all of her greatest looks throughout her marvelous and highly social life. It’s called “New York Jackie: Pictures from her life in the City”. I found my copy at Winners,  but it is also available on Amazon.

It is such a good coffee table book – I sometimes use it to look for inspiration! I’ve looked through this book several times and never get tired of seeing all of these photos!!

J.Crew Factory Faves: Looks of the Season

Well, after having suffered such an icy cold winter…we are experiencing our second Winter with freezing rain and snow. At the end of April, can you believe it? Fortunately, that does not have me down! My head is still filled with spring and summer thoughts, and the best part about those two seasons is all the new styles that come out by J.Crew Factory.

Today I am rounding up some of my favourite pieces at J.Crew Factory using my favourite app Polyvore and assembling some Spring looks that I love.

Floral and Fun!

If you are keeping up with Fashion Week, style columns and recent trends, you know that floral patterns are back. This patterned drawstring pant is light, airy and perfect for a summer night. The bright coral-red top brings out the shades of light pink and really compliments the navy backdrop within the pant. With or without the jean jacket, this look is fun, casual and really simple. Not to mention the transparent tote to top it all off – completely to die for.

Bright as Bright can be

You can never go too bright. This outfit screams summer fun, doesn’t it? It is just the right amount of casual with the J.Crew chino shorts, the fun colour scheme and the casual shoe. These slip on eye-lit sneakers are perfect for going for a stroll in the park or running quick errands! I love when two pieces are just shades away in colour – the light aqua shorts paired with the sea foam green top gives it just a hint of difference in colour so that it isn’t so “matchy-matchy”, but still works completely! You can never go wrong with that!

Animal Motifs Continue

J.Crew Factory is famous for their motif sweaters. From dogs to cats to boats to whatever item they can think of, it is on a sweater. I have a sweater with a giant red apple on it (one of my favourites). There is nothing like this cute little crab sweater to kick off the summer. Kind of goes with the whole “beach motif”! My favourite thing about this look is how the emphasis in colour is focused in the shorts. I tried to keep the rest of the outfit muted in earthy tones (tan, blue, golds, etc.) and then really make the shorts stand out.

Sweet and Simple

This is the simplest, classic look I know how to put together. Simple top, J.Crew Oxford shorts and flats with a cute tote. If you wanted to keep this look super casual, you could ditch the jewellery, but even if you wanted to keep the jewellery, it would still be a pretty simple look. The flats are the best part about this outfit, because they are floral. The floral (same pattern used in the first ensemble) is really accentuated by the coral-red shorts.

Cool and Chic

When it comes to wearing hats, the most important thing is to be confident. I always struggled with wearing hats because I didn’t think I was a “hat person”. Once I began to incorporate a hat as an accessory, I became addicted. The pattern mixing in this outfit is great! You have a big pattern on the bottom (floral) and a tighter pattern on the top (thin stripes). The floral is more dominant, therefore they compliment each other. In order to keep your look balanced, make sure that one pattern is more dominant than the other.

Although these looks were created with J.Crew Factory items, you can apply these tips with other retailers. I find that Old Navy and Banana Republic do a great job in providing the same types of items as J.Crew for a significantly cheaper amount. Not to mention, Winners is also an amazing alternative where you can find similar pieces!! The trick is to keep your eye out for new styles and great deals!!

Happy Shopping!
