Nude Monochrome

From time to time, I like putting a more professional spin on my looks, regardless if I need to look professional or not. Nude tones are really in right now and that’s what inspired me to assemble this semi-professional, cute nude look! Obviously, the nude coloured jacket is the focal point of this look…but the neutral accessories just build it up!

I am definitely a fan of the matchy-match type outfits. That is why I matched the heels and tote to the blazer. It makes for a very uniform looks, and what better a colour to highlight than this beautiful tone. With any monochrome look, you either want to go full force with the tones, or break it up a bit.

This striped black and white tee was the perfect buffer to all the neutral tones in the look. Throwing a pattern amongst a monochrome look is always a good idea, and I particularly love stripes, so this was the perfect option.

I am also really loving boyfriend jeans these days. I used to be totally against the ripped trend, but it has definitely grown on me. Boyfriend jeans add an element of edge to the look!

Happy Thursday!

Casual Look for a Fashion Show

A couple of weeks ago, I got to go to our annual “Style at Mac” fashion show! I did a two part coverage (click here and here to read it all)! It was such a blast and I had so much fun seeing all the cool styles that walked down the runway. One of my favourite parts about going out to events is dressing up. I love assembling looks that I have never worn before and that night, I assembled a cute and casual look that (in my opinion) totally slayed.

Casual Look for a Fashion Show - Pearls and Polkadots

There were so many great looks that night! One of my favourite pieces of this look was my Aldo Hot Pink Lace Up Heels. Not only are they bright, they are the life of the party and surprisingly very comfortable! I am really into the lace up pieces these days (flats, heels, clutches, etc.) and so these babies certainly fit the bill!

Pairing the jean jacket with the little black dress was something that I was a little hesitant about – especially for a fashion show. Whenever you wear something denim, it can be seen as super casual because denim is a rather casual fabric. However, I think that without the jean jacket, the dress might have been missing something, and so pairing that third piece (even if it was casual) was definitely better than wearing the dress solo.

What do you think of the denim jacket? Too casual or just the right amount? Let me know in the comments below…

Summer Picks with Anthropologie

It seems I am always getting excited for the next season to come! A month ago, I was going crazy over all of the spring lines and colours and styles…and now I am dreaming of the hot summer sun on my face and basking in gorgeous threads from my favourite stores. I have yet to shop for my summer styles, but Anthropologie‘s new arrivals are looking great! That’s why today, I am going to show you my picks from their new line:

Summer Picks with Anthropologie - Pearls and Polkadots

All of these styles can be found at Anthropologie

This season is full of pops of colour – specifically reds and pinks. I am also loving the textures through the fabrics, like the jean and the cork in the wedge sandals. Below, I have put together some perfect looks and potential summer outfit inspo – straight from Anthropologie‘s new line.

Saturday Struttin’

This look is so much fun! I love the patterned top with the denim skirt. Denim skirts are all the rage right now, and for summer…it is the perfect piece for any lady to have in her closet. You can dress it up, dress it down…do whatever you want with it, honestly. I especially love to add a pop of colour when majority of the outfit falls into a neutral colour scheme – keeps the look interesting!

Tassels and Ties

This is such a trendy look for the season. The denim jumper is so in right now, and I love it. I think that denim can be a natural neutral fabric – even though it has a blue hue to it. With any denim texture, you want to pick one colour to make the denim pop. In this case, I picked nude neutrals – the tassel necklace, the sunglasses, the bag and wedges. The tassel necklace is perfect for this look – fun and casual.

Elegant in the Sun

Summer brings elegance and this is a great look to show that. I love this two toned dress in the pink and orange. Pink and orange go great together and look so bright and summery! I have reused the hat, sunglasses and wedges in this look because I think they are great pieces for summer (and I cannot get enough of them). The pink toned sunglasses tie right in with this elegant theme and the crossbody neutral bag is the perfect compliment to the dress!

Cute and Casual

The way I assembled this look was completely around the top. How cute is the detail in this white top? I love pairing white pieces with pops of colour, and those shorts keep in theme with that. With a look like this, you want to beef up on the accessories! The earrings, the sun hat, the bag, and the sandals – all perfectly align with the detail in the shorts and top.

I think the most important thing to keep in mind when adding a piece to your wardrobe is will it work with your other pieces? If it doesn’t go with anything else in your closet, then you are going to have a problem. Think of the chemistry the clothing will have!

What do you think of the summer collection? Which piece is your favourite? Let me know in the comments below…

Suede and Ivory

As I get a little older and dive more into the world of fashion, I have taken a liking to certain trends. Suede is definitely one of them. Fashion felt hats is another. Combining the two makes me super happy…which is kind of what inspired this look! Lately, I have been seeing suede skater skirts everywhere.

Suede and Ivory - Pearls and Polkadots

Ivory Cotton Turtle Neck2 Black Felt Hat3 Cat eye sunnies4 Black Fringe Suede Booties5 Red Kate Spade Bucket Bag6 Suede Button-Front Skater Skirt

Because of the colour tones that typically go along with suede pieces (military greens, burnt oranges, tan browns), many would consider a look like this to be in the “Fall” category. Personally, I think this is a great outfit that can be worn in the Fall or Spring. The long sleeved turtle neck keeps you warmer if it’s chillier weather (which Spring and Fall typically bring), but it is not such a thick fabric that you are sweltering.

Pops of colour are important in any look for Spring. This is the season to bring out the fun colours because the snow is melting away, Summer is right around the corner, and it’s a time to be jumping for joy! Why not throw a popping red bucket bag to brighten this look up?
