Leopard Booties + Velvet Turtleneck

Snow is pretty, but it is completely impractical for fashionistas like myself. Can I wear my cute heels in the snow? Nope. Can I wear my leather boots in the snow? If I want them to get ruined…not to mention you have to wear a puffy Winter coat everywhere you go. It’s a tad ridiculous, if you ask me. Well luckily, this cute velvet turtleneck I found at Winners is doing a great job keeping me warm these days…

There’s nothing better than heading out to conquer the day in comfy clothing. I am not a huge wearer of sweatpants or track suits – I turn more to sweaters, stretchy jeans and big cozy scarves and this velvet knit sweater is one of my favourites. Really any knit turtleneck is the perfect piece for these cold days we have been getting lately. My go-to jeans are from Old Navy. Why? Mainly because I am short. They come in ‘short’…which is great for me! To put a little spunk in my step, I laced up these leopard booties! They have rubber tread, are not too high and are actually perfect!

I am doing so well with these New Year’s resolutions! Better outfit posts, posting every weekday…I’m on fire (if I do say so myself…). Keep following along for more things to come, and hopefully more collaborations!

Trends to Try in 2016!

BANNERPeople say it every year – new year, new me! Although that is a super over used phrase, I feel there is a tad of inspiration and truth to it! This saying may be a crazy cliche that everyone says at the beginning of each year, but it is a positive statement to start your year off right! Those who are lucky, will actually accomplish those New Year’s resolutions that we all think so hard about in the first two weeks of January!!

Well today, I am bringing to you some new fashion trends to try in 2016! Why? Style keeps us on our toes, and being the style blogger that I am, am always looking to try new things!

TULLE

I am currently obsessed with tulle. I have never worn it…but it is on my list of things to try – fashion wise. In mid-December when I was hunting around style blogs and Pinterest for holiday party looks, I came across so many fashionable tulle based looks and thought to myself – “I need a tulle skirt!”. There are so many cute tulle skirts to try out there, but what’s great is that tulle skirts are (apparently!) simple to make as well! Which is what I am planning to try very soon…

FAUX FUR

Collars, vests, coats…it’s all in trend and I am on board! However, I must say…this is a bit circumstantial. If you are strutting your stuff at the mall, or downtown…fur completely jives. However, I have to say that I do get peculiar looks on campus when I am sporting my ultra-furry vest (probably because it is an attention grabber…and looks a little strange amongst the sea of sweatpants that is lecture). However, smaller accessories made in faux fur steal the show…nevertheless, I love faux fur!

LEOPARD

Leopard print is quickly becoming my most favourite pattern to style. I stick to accessories with this print because it is so versatile and it really goes with (surprisingly!) a lot. We have seen blogger after blogger tell us to pattern mix (and I do!), and this is one of the patterns that I highly recommend to do so with! Leopard and plaid, leopard and stripes…the possibilities are endless. I wear this print in booties, scarves, beanies and gloves (so far!)…maybe it’s time to branch out to bigger and better things? A.K.A. Sweaters, cardigans, and anything else I can get my hands on.

PATTERNED LEGGINGS

Prior to this day, I really did not consider leggings to be a valid replacement for pants. In fact, I usually find leggings to be incredibly annoying when worn in place of pants because I can’t every get them to stay up (which results in always yanking them up over my hips). However, it turns out that I really hadn’t given them a chance. SO I ordered myself a pair of red tartan leggings…and I have seen the light. Worn correctly, patterned leggings are a blessing in disguise!

THE CAMEL COAT

I was heading into an exam earlier this month, and what do I see? A camel coat here, a camel coat there. Now what is a camel coat you ask? Pretty much what it sounds like…a coat that is camel-coloured. Well, wouldn’t you know after seeing them one after another, I saw them all over the mall, in catalogues…and I’m going to be bold and say…the camel coat is totally in. I am completely digging the colour and of course…the in-trend material (which is usually wool or faux wool).

FEATHERED SKIRT

Feathers are too bird-like for me, however, you never know what could come into trend. Many bloggers have hopped on this style train already, and it’s something that has caught my eye as well. It’s becoming so in style that chains like Winners – believe it, I saw it!! I am loving the black feathered skirts the most, because although it’s a wild trend, it also passes as as a dressy casual bottom that you can really rock (all seasons!)

There you have it – six style trends to try in 2016! I am going to do my best to try every single one of these trends. Why? Well because it’s fun, and because it will broaden my horizons in style! Besides…jeans and a top gets boring from day to day.

Style Spotlight: Leopard Accessories

Style SpotlightThere aren’t too many patterns that I won’t wear. When it comes to style and fashion, I am a complete open book and ready to try anything. I first caught on to leopard print two years ago when I found the cutest leopard print flats from American Eagle. I just couldn’t pass them up, and when I began to experiment more with the pattern, I became a bit of an addict.

Today I want to talk about the best ways to wear the pattern. I am not huge into leopard print statement pieces like dresses, shirts or pants (are there leopard print pants?), but I am all for the leopard accessories!

Leopard Booties + Cognac + Gold

Leopard print is a very warm pattern, which is why I tend to stick to warm, earthy tones to pair the pattern with. In the case of leopard print shoes or booties, I am a huge fan of pairing the shoe with gold based jewelry and the colour cognac. It is probably one of my favourite combinations.

I picked up these booties at a consignment store brand new in my area, but they are Sperry TopsiderI love them paired with my gold link necklace (Icing Stores), gold based glasses ring (Kate Spade New Yorkand to top the look off, my cognac shoulder bag (Michael Kors).

3

Using cognac as a main colour to pair with the print worked perfectly in the case of these Sperry Topsider booties since the trim between the tread and pattern is a close-cognac shade.

Leopard Beanie + Chambray + Pearls

Before this year, I really wasn’t into hats. I started getting into fashion hats, beanies and baseball caps at the beginning of this school year. This leopard beanie (D&Y) is the perfect printed accessory to spruce up any look.

6

Pairing the blue chambray with the leopard print really contrasts the two fabrics. Not only are you contrasting the knit with and chambray, but you are contrasting the print with the solid – makes for a great pair.

7

This leopard beanie is my favourite hat right now (next to my university baseball cap, that is). I ordered it off Amazon but it is sold by D&YIt sits perfectly on my head and is actually really comfortable. The multi-strand of pearls is from J.Crew Factory – this accessory is pretty much a staple for me. I picked up the blue chambray button up at my local Marshalls last year. They always have a great selection!

8

Leopard Scarf + Cognac + Gold

Like I said, leopard print goes really well with cognac and gold accents. Here, I have flipped the look from above – leopard is now shown in the main accessory, and cognac is accenting in the boot. Gold is used to compliment both the print and the cognac boot throw the gold accents on the boot and in the necklace.

11

This is my one and only leopard print scarf and I love it (Charlotte Russe). I got it a couple of years ago and it is my go-to when it comes to my fave leopard accessories. The boots are Ralph Lauren booties from a couple years ago. These were kind of bought on a whim because it was a half of sale at The Bay and so I had to take advantage. The necklace is from my fave accessory palace, Icing Stores

10

Leopard accessories are my favourite.

These are three of the ways that I love to wear the pattern, but there are so many other ways you can wear it. It’s always best to make the leopard print your focus in an outfit. It is a very loud pattern, and although it is not against the rules to pattern mix with this print, I love to make it the focal point of any look that I am sporting.
