HERRINGBONE IN THE SPRING

Although I am enjoying the lovely summer weather here in Florida, about a month ago, I was back in Toronto and it was freezing. So cold that I actually had to layer up and rock this awesome J.Crew herringbone patterned vest.

I love to layer. Spring is the perfect season to layer in because you can walk out the door in the morning and it is cold, but later that day, the temperature could spike! That is why you want several layers so throughout the day, you can adjust.

So let me talk about the vest for a second. This is a herringbone printed puffer vest from J.Crew. This is one of my crucial Fall pieces, however, I pulled it out this season because I am loving the grey tones that it brings to a look. Another one of my favourite prints is floral. This dark floral printed pant stays within the grey-dark colour scheme we have going on with the herringbone printed vest.

Underneath the vest, I have a jean-sweatshirt jacket from American EagleThis gave me some warmth in the arms and the jean kept well with the cool and casual vibe of the look.

Winter Whites

Is anyone else shocked that we just passed the last weekend of January? Only 11 months left in 2016…okay, I’m getting a bit ahead of myself here. For January, we haven’t had a TON of snow – only extremely cold weather. Cold weather makes a lot harder, but the upside is that there are cute gloves, stylish coats and amazing Winter boots to combat the dreary season that it is.

I always get confused with the rule against wearing white after Labour day. Technically, white is a Winter colour…so technically, can’t you wear it? But then again, that would be wearing white after Labour day, no? What I do know is that this winter white coat is gorgeous and I feel super sophisticated in it! I love pairing white and tan together, which is why tan pants was the obvious choice. I have sported this ivory cable knit before and there is a reason…it is the warmest sweater I own (and it looks fabulous, obviously!).

Ending January in winter whites is my kind of end, and with so much more to come (including a little Valentine’s Day and Superbowl action), it was the perfect time to dawn this look to the blog.

Happy Monday lovelies!

Check Vest + Ivory Cable knit

Spending the days reading books for English and rerunning friends really sounds like my kind of week! The weather has FINALLY backed off (thank goodness) so that I’m not wearing two pairs of socks, my parka and the thickest sweater I can find. I’m clearly not a Winter gal. Although the semester is now in full swing and assignment due dates are creeping up on me, I am weirdly stress-free and really…enjoying my homework (yes, I did say that!).

Sweater: J.Crew (similar here) / Vest: Old Navy / Jeans: MAX Jeans / Boots: Thrifted (similar here and here)/ Necklace: Icing Jewelry / Tote: Indigo @ Chapters (similar here)

This check vest is one of my favourites! The day that Old Navy began selling quilted vests was a happy day. At the price they are at, you could get one in every style and colour you want (the best is check though)! Cable knit sweaters are my best friend this season. They keep you warm and you can never have too many (although my mother may beg to differ…) The design on this ivory knit from J.Crew is the ideal shade for Winter and goes really well with the red checks. I really scored with these OTK boots. I have such a problem finding OTK boots that fit my short, stumpy little legs. I have no idea what brand these boots are, but they are the perfect fit! Toting around all my textbooks is hard work, but this bag from Indigo @ Chapters makes life easier – the handles are strong and the bag is big (and that’s all I ask for…).

As we jump right back into the school season (and my final semester of university!!), I am working hard to get into a solid routine. I am loving the snow (sometimes) and the looks I can now bring to you so easily (thanks sis!), so hopefully this continues!

Cheers!

A Cozy Red Sweater

It has only been ONE WEEK since I moved back to school (I know, I said that yesterday…), but can you believe how slow the new year is moving? I don’t know if it is because I am totally on track with my resolutions (yay me!), or if it’s because it’s suddenly dropped in temperature. Either way, these last seven days have felt more like seven months!

I picked this French Connection sweater up at Winners over the holidays. I’m sure glad I did now that we have this chilly weather (and by “chilly”, I mean freezing), I need something cozy! Red is always a nice colour for the Winter season because it livens things up (enough with the white and black!!). These dress pants are super comfortable (also from Winners…can you see a trend here?) which I picked up to wear to Christmas lunch with the family!! These boots are really old, but shearling trim never goes out of style!

Now that the holidays are over and school is back in full swing, I am making sure that I continue on a great routine. Being organized is a better way to live, if you ask me. I am on track with all of my resolutions, staying organized, eating moderately better than I was in 2015, and (so far) on top of my studies!

Can it get any better than that?

Cheers to the New Year!

NYE Clutch Essentials!

New Year’s Eve is TONIGHT everyone – can you believe it? It’s amazing how fast each year goes by! Tonight, I will be celebrating with friends out on the town and for going out, I have assembled the perfect NYE clutch! You need to make sure that you are prepared for that fun night out with friends and today, I am going to show you exactly what you should pack in your bag for the big night!

For a night out, you don’t need to bring a lot – but there are a few things that you may want while out past midnight! Some are optional, others are completely necessary!

NYE Clutch Essentials - Pearls and Polkadots

My NYE clutch for 2015!

iPhone (or your phone) – I know, I know – the iPhone 5S is an older model…but the main point is: Make sure you have your phone on NYE! Plain and simple it’s safe, and fun because you will want to take tons of pictures!

Blinged out Bobby Pins – Whether they are blinged out or not, I always make sure I have a couple of pins in my bag. You never know when your hair may need to be pinned back. These pins are the perfect bobby pins for a great NYE night because they add sparkle instantly!

Setting Powder – Rimmel‘s translucent setting powder has been a saving grace for me on many occasions! It minimizes the shine on your face, and is quick to apply, meaning you only need a smidge! When you are amongst a lot of people, sweat may become a problem – but this powder takes that sweaty glow right off your face, so you are looking perfect all night long!

Make up Brush – You need something to apply the setting powder with! This is really the only reason that you would pack a make up brush in your clutch! This is my favourite brush right now by e.l.f. cosmetics. It’s light, fresh looking and cleans really easily!

Matte Lipstick – I have a lipstick obsession right now which falls into two categories: nudes and mattes. This creamy matte, nude lipstick that I am loving right now is by Mabelline and is in the shade “Daringly Nude”. This has been my go-to, daily shade this past month! For the big NYE, you will need to pack your lipstick for touch ups throughout the night!

Magic Wallet – Unfortunately, this is not in stores anymore (which is why I didn’t feature it up above), however this is what I carry my necessary cards in when I go out. It’s simple, small and fits in pretty much any clutch. You will want something to carry your cards in so you don’t lose them!!

BONUS: Portable Phone Charger – This is something that I have been meaning to purchase (but always forget to). There is a great, compact, gold-coloured portable phone charger at Lord & Taylor – perfect for NYE! There is nothing worse than a dead phone (plus it’s not too safe on NYE!) Charge up with this cute gold portable charger!

My clutch is not being sold online, but the one linked up above is very similar and equally as cute!
