Styled Bookshelf Inspiration

When it comes to organization, I like to think of myself as being skilled. However, there is a difference between being efficient and stylish in your home organization. I lack the skills in making my home “stylish”. Whenever I look at a new space to redesign, I have a lot of difficulty forming that image in my head.

My go to tool to help me start brainstorming ideas (which I sometimes imitate exactly), is PinterestAs some of you may know, I am in the midst of redecorating my bedroom. It is definitely a slow process since I am on a budget, and don’t have a ton of time to dedicate to doing so.

This past weekend, I dedicated my time to thinking about my two book shelves. I have never been one to style a book shelf so that it is a decorative piece in the room. Well, this time around, things are about to change!

Today, I am rounding up some of my favourite book shelf looks from Pinterest. These photos are what will be inspiring me for this part of my redesign! Enjoy!

Beautiful Bedroom Inspiration

I am finding that as I approach the middle of my twenties, I am in a constant state of transition. Recently, I moved back into my parents’ house. So often I think twenty-somethings, like me, dream about this independent lifestyle (especially after university) and then realize, how expensive it actually is to be completely independent from your parents.

Unfortunately, I cannot call myself independent just yet. That is where I have been struggling with this weird student-to- adult transition. Moving home, I came back to a bedroom full of stuffed animals, old posters, and CLUTTER!!! To say the least, I have a lot of work ahead of me, so that has lead me to this.

Two words: BEDROOM. MAKEOVER. I have been talking about it for a while, but never seriously considered it. Why? Well, first of all, I was living in an entirely different place, so why make over something I am not spending time in? All the more reason to begin the process now!

In order to kick off my bedroom makeover, I am going to showcase a few different looks and styles I found on Pinterest. What’s a makeover without a little inspiration, right?

I have always been a major fan of pink! As I get older, I am transitioning into seeing pink as an accent colour rather than the main focus. Seems like the older I get, the lighter the shade of pink I like (weird, huh?). Above all, my colour scheme is looking like a mixture of grey hues, blush pinks and pops of gold!

I plan to keep you along for my bedroom makeover journey! It’s going to be a long haul, but I feel it will be TOTALLY worth it in the end…

The Preppy Side of Pinterest: Christmas Looks

THE PREPPY SIDE OF PINTEREST-

I have been a bit absent these past couple of days. As we head into finals season, I have been absolutely swamped with assignments, studying and trying to maintain my sanity. So, I took a couple of days off. BUT, I am returning today with some great Christmas looks for you…straight from Pinterest (just the inspiration you need this holiday season). A few weeks ago, I showed you my top three must-have looks for this holiday season.

Today, I want to show you some of the preppy looks that I am loving this month…

Classic Red Tartan – I have a thing for plaid and this look screams classic Christmas. Red tartan is the best tartan, and here, paired with a black sweater, a string of pearls, matching red tartan heels and a dark crimson lip is perfect. This season, midi skirts are completely in. Many people think that midi skirts are for tall people, and tall people only. Not true at all – try the length with a pair of heels to boost your height, and you are golden!

Dressy dressy at the Mall – There is nothing wrong with sporting a skirt and tights around town for the holidays. Just because the snow has come to stay (which we don’t have by the way…), doesn’t mean you can’t show off those legs in the Winter and get your cute on! This outfit below emphasizes the importance of layers. The turtleneck under the plaid flannel, which is under the wool pea coat. Not to mention, the hunter green Hunter boots…simply perfection.

Hunter boots *-*-read coat, green skirt, and that plaid blouse! i LOVE this outfit...I really would like to look like this girl.:

The Laid back Lumberjack – Okay, so maybe this isn’t what a lumberjack would sport in the forest, but this look is incredibly cute. From the plaid flannel vest to the staple Bean Boots that she is sporting…I love it all. This look is super easy to recreate and perfect for getting the house ready for the family, hunting to buy the Christmas tree, or even running errands at the mall.

Fur on Plaid – This is an adorable look as well. The tartan, as you know, is already a favourite of mine. However, the fur is a new one for me. I just recently added a faux fur vest to my closet, and I have yet to sport it…but this is one of my inspirational outfits on Pinterest, which is why I am including it today. It is an easy and simple look to recreate with black pants or leggings…throw on some cute heels, or maybe some over the knee boots – voila!

That’s it for today. There is more to come this week hopefully. I love Christmas, and I love writing about Christmas style. Especially when I get to go through my inspirational boards…look forward to more outfit details coming soon (I know Mondays are usually details days…)

Pinspiration: Stripes and Chambray

What comes with my love for fashion, is my obsession with fashion platforms. Instagram, fashion blogs, tumblr – they all are perfect outlets to find those fashion friendly looks. There is one platform, however, that I love beyond all of them, and that is Pinterest. If you are a social media lover, like me, you probably know about it, or have one yourself. The best part about Pinterest, is how many different categories are featured. I love to sift through fashion boards, clothing boards, accessory boards – you name it, I love it.

When I find a cute look on Pinterest, I try to replicate it as best as I can, by myself. I use my own clothing, or I go out and get something similar. What I have actually started to do, is if I am contemplating buying a new piece of clothing, I search it on Pinterest first, so I can see what I could wear it with. That way, I know if I will actually wear it…because I will have motivation to recreate an outfit. So that’s what I’m going to highlight today – one of the looks, that I have recreated (not exact) using an inspiration from Pinterest. A “Pinspiration”, you may say…

This is the first shot I saw of this look, and the photo that inspired the recreation. I love how simply put together it is. My favourite part is the pop of colour that the pink shoes give. They really tie the whole look together and keep it looking fresh!

I put a little bit of a different spin on my recreation of this look. The skirt is the same, purchased from Modcloth. The chambray, I picked up from Target (always a great place for staple items). I think the stripes and chambray compliment each other overall, very well. I decided against pairing this look with a statement necklace. Instead, I chose a thick, gold costume chain from Icing. I think it’s subtle enough, but still gives the sparkle that the look needed. Although I loved the pop of colour in the heels, I thought that the look I put together worked better with neutral flats in black. These flats are from mark. by Avon and they are truly amazing – pretty much my go-to black flats. Great for work, social outings, or a casual day.

It’s always good to have inspiration when putting looks together. Sometimes, I get stumped on what I should wear (especially when you have so many options). When in doubt, go online – there is a never ending supply of looks to replicate and make your own! I will never get tired of the many fashion boards, blogs and website that are dedicated to style.

As long as you look and feel good, why not shake things up and put things together as you please? Nothing wrong with experimenting!
