Beautiful Beauty Bloggers V2: How to Get the Most Out of Your Beauty Products – Guest Post

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - Day 4Today is the fourth day of Pearls and Polkadots’ “Beautiful Beauty Bloggers: Volume 2” series! I have Adrianna from East Eclectic  guest posting today! All of her posts are full of life and inspiration and I certainly recommend hopping on over to her blog to give some of her posts a read! Adrianna is going to tell you a little bit about some DIY methods to making your beauty products last (and do a little myth busting as well…)

There are tons of tips on how to save money by creating DIY combinations of your leftover beauty products. The bad news? Most of them don’t work. The good news? I tried six of them so that you don’t have to!

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - East Eclectic

1. Eye drops x Mascara

This has been making rounds on the web for years. The idea is that by adding eye drops or saline solution to a dried out mascara, you can revive the old tube and keep using it.

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - East Eclectic

This does work, and very well, however you should not be using this to add moisture back to old mascara. Mascara should not be used for longer than three months, so if any of your tubes are this old, just buy a new one.

However, some mascaras (especially the ‘natural’ mascaras like the one pictured) start drying out after only a month, and in circumstances like those, adding some eye drops or saline totally helps. I used some anti-allergy eyedrops I had on hand. Pictured below is with and without the addition of eye drops:

2. Chapstick x Lipstick

For this one I used a bit of Covergirl lip balm, that was just sitting in my drawer, going unused, and an E.L.F. lipstick, that I wasn’t too crazy about.

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - East Eclectic

I used the end of a plastic spoon to scoop out the balm from its container and to break off part of the lipstick. I put them both in a small ceramic saucer and placed them in the microwave for 30 seconds, until they were all melty.

I poured it into a small, clean eye shadow container and let it sit for five minutes, until it was cooled. This worked perfectly well, it created a nice tinted balm. I’d recommend using a softer lipstick though, the one I used was a lip crayon, and while this did work, I’d prefer it were a little easier to spread.

3. Eyeshadow x Clear Coat

The next thing I tried was creating my own nail polish color. It has been rumored that if you mix an eyeshadow color with some clear nail polish, you can create an all new polish.

This is pretty plausible, but didn’t work for me. I tried this two times, one with a regular eye shadow from the pan and another with a fine loose glitter.

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - East Eclectic

The regular eyeshadow, the blue one to the left, was quite a challenge. First, I emptied the eye shadow from the pan into a paper bowl. I mashed the eyeshadow into powder, and then poured in some clear coat. This one came out lumpy and was really hard to spread on the nail. I did like the color but I just couldn’t get the eye shadow back into a fine enough powder.

The next one I tried was with a very fine gold glitter powder. Since it was already in powder form, I just mixed it with the clear coat in another bowl.

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - East Eclectic

This one came out way better, and was much less clumpy. However, it was still pretty difficult to spread, even when I added more clear coat.

The myth? Plausible. You can make your own polish color, yes, but I think you’re better off just looking for the color you love. Nail polish comes in SO many colors now and there are tons of super affordable options.

4. Foundation x Moisturizer

The purpose of this combination is to create a sheer foundation look with moisturizer mixed in to your foundation. This is something I do a lot of days when I’m in a rush or can’t find/ don’t have a light BB cream on hand.

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - East Eclectic

By mixing in some moisturizer to your foundation, you lighten the coverage, make it easier to spread and don’t risk drying out the skin.

This did work for me, but since I do this quite often, I wasn’t expecting it not to. I think this is a perfect alternative if you only have heavy coverage foundations on hand or your skin has been drier than usual. It does take a few extra minutes to set, but nothing major. Here’s with the lotion added (top swatch) and the original foundation (bottom swatch):

5. Bronzer x Lotion

Don’t try this at home, seriously. It’s awful. The bronzer doesn’t spread evenly and gets really sticky when mixed with lotion. Just buy a self-tanner and skip this awkward mess.

6. Hair Dye x Shampoo

When you bleach your hair, in order to get rid of the brassy tones, it’s recommended that you use a purple shampoo to help tone the hair. By mixing leftover purple hair dye with shampoo, you can supposedly “create your own”.

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - East Eclectic

This was another fail.

The dye stains your hands and skin, and doesn’t do a great job of toning. Instead of wasting perfectly good hair dye and shampoo, save your leftover dye (it’s not going to go bad) for another dye job and just buy the purple shampoo.

7. Lotion x Perfume

My last and final experiment was mixing unscented lotion with perfume, the purpose being to prolong use of a perfume sample.

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - East Eclectic

This did work, however I don’t like to put lotion on before I go out somewhere, so it wasn’t a great fit for me. However, if you have a tube of unscented lotion and you’d like to make use of a perfume sample, use about 1/3 of a tube for every 8 ounces of lotion.

I didn’t notice any change in consistency in the lotion I used with the perfume tester, and this is a good way to add a fragrance you like to any lotion, especially if many fragrance additives in scented lotion irritate you.

Have you guys tried any of these DIY hacks? Did any of them work for you? Let me know in the comments below…

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - Day 3
Today is the third day of Pearls and Polkadots’ “Beautiful Beauty Bloggers: Volume 2” series! I have Elle from Elle Sees guest posting today! Elle shares amazing tips for doing your makeup, hair and style. Her passion for blogging is so admirable, and I am so glad to have her here today to show you a few products!

Hey you! I’m Elle, and I blog at Elle Sees. It’s your one stop spot for all things beauty. I’ve got reviews, DIY beauty products, tips+tricks, and tutorials for hair, makeup, nails, and skin care. Stop by and check it out!

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - Elle Sees

Today I’ve got my foolproof 5-minute makeup routine for y’all! If I’m not testing out beauty products, you can find me in Atlanta at my day job: a nanny! I’m on the go and want quick makeup to keep up with the little ones. The key is to have a bag or box with these essentials—just grab and go and you’ll be ready in no time!

Here are the products and the steps I do, but choose what works for you:

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - Elle Sees - 5 Minute Makeup

BB or CC Cream – moisturizes, protects, and lightly blur imperfections.

Concealer – necessity for hiding dark circles – I suggest a peachy corrector. Try Bare Minerals, Bobbi Brown, It Cosmetics.

Cream Shadow – look more awake with a satin shadow slightly lighter than your skin tone or try a brown or taupe for those days when you want to look like you put in more effort 😉

Mascara – sometimes just curling the lashes works wonders, but I swear by a coat of mascara on top and bottom lashes.

Cheek/Lip Tint – 2 products in one! I love Stila’s Convertible Color, but try Be a Bombshell’s The One Stick, NARS Multiple, Benetint, Sonia Kashuk.

Lip Crayon – okay, I admit, I will skip the blush if I’m in a hurry, but I’ve gotta have some color on my lips. These require no mirror, no sharpening, and no skill, plus they come in a variety of colors/finishes. Try Revlon, Neutrogena, Jordana

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers V2: Fall Inspired Face of the Day f. Lorac Pro 2 Palette – Guest Post

22 Today is the first day of Pearls and Polkadots’ “Beautiful Beauty Bloggers: Volume 2” series! I have Katie from From my Vanity guest posting today! Katie is great at doing her makeup and the tips she gives are amazing!! I am over the moon to have her guest post for you guys today to show you some very useful and cool products, as well as show you exactly how she does her eye make up so beautifully!

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - From My Vanity - Face of the Day With fall finally in the air and the weather cooling down here in Virginia, I am excited to dive into the deeper, fall-ish colors in my eye shadow palettes (not that I stayed away from my smokey green eyes during the spring and summer…but, at least now I’m ‘in trend’, right? 😛 )

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - From My Vanity - Face of the Day

For today, if you haven’t figured out from the title, I wanted to use a hunter-green eye shadow from LORAC for my fall-inspired face of the day. I love playing with green eye shadows – it brings out the color of my eyes – and am slowly growing an extensive green eye shadow collection (both singles and palettes).

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - From My Vanity - Face of the Day

I’m using a lot of favorites when it comes to the makeup brands I used to create this look – both high-end and drugstore. The LORAC Pro 2 eyeshadow palette is a new addition to my collection that I purchased a few weeks ago and I have been loving it! I can’t rave about LORAC’s Pro eyeshadow formula enough. Yes, it’s very soft and can get messy if you’re rough when picking up shadow, but they are so pigmented and very easy to blend out seamlessly. I own 6 palettes from their Pro line and love each one!

Yes, I’m starting to ramble (I tend to that when I get excited about a product, sorry!) so let’s reel it back in and run through all the products I used to create this look! 🙂

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - From My Vanity - Face of the Day

Maybelline Face Studio Master Prime Blur & Smooth Primer (Not pictured…oops!)

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in Light Beige

Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer in Sand

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer in Medium/Deep

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Finishing Spray

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original

Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather Collection in Deep Forest

LORAC Pro 2 Eyeshadow Palette

L’Oreal Infallible Gel Laquer Liner 24hr in Blackest Black

L’Oreal Silkissime Eyeliner in Black

Maybelline the Rocket Volum’ Express in Very Black

Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner in Addiction

LASplash Cosmetics Lip Couture Liquid Lipstick in Innocent Vixen

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - From My Vanity - Face of the Day

I’m pretty basic when it comes to my FACE routine. I always like to prep with a primer since I have combination/oily skin type and after all the work I put into it…I don’t want it going anywhere! Then I use my favorite foundation at the moment and my holy grail Maybelline Fit Me concealer to cover any spots and my dark under eyes. From there I just set everything with a light powder – I highly recommend this one from Rimmel! – and finish off with a bit of contour and just a touch of blush. Oh! And can’t forget the finishing spray to lock everything in place!

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - From My Vanity - Face of the Day

The EYES are pretty easy and uncomplicated – all I did was prime and then prep with the Color Tattoo pot and then I packed Jade onto the lid, blended out the crease with Lt. Brown, deepened up the outer corner just a hair with Black, and highlighted my brow bone with Buff. That’s it for the eye shadows, really easy, right?! I finished off the look with winged liner, tight line, mascara, and just a hint of Jade and Lt. Brown blended out on the lower lash line to bring everything together.

For the LIPS, I decided to go very nude (which is uncommon for me…in the fall, all I want to wear are the deep, vampy colors!). I warmed up my lips by filling them in with the Rimmel lip liner before I topped it off with a very nude, mattifying liquid lipstick from LASplash Cosmetics.

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers - From My Vanity - Face of the Day

And there you have it – you’re ready to rock this beautiful, chilly weather totally on trend with this green, fall-inspired face of the day! I’d love to know what YOUR go-to fall eye shadow color is. Is it green, like me? Orange? Brown? Cranberry? Let me know in the comments below! And do you have a favorite eye shadow palette that focuses on all fall-inspired colors? Let me know so I can go get my hands on it!! 😉

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers: Home Remedy for Moisturizing Face Mask – Guest Post

Today is the fourth day of Pearls and Polkadots’ “Beautiful Beauty Bloggers” series and I could not be happier to have Stephanie from The Remedy Genie guest posting today! She comes up with the most amazing remedies that you can simply do from your home. From hair care to home cleaning, she never disappoints! Make sure you give her blog a read and check out her a-mazing remedies! Happy Reading!

I am so pleased to have been invited as a guest blogger here and I am excited to share with you my latest home remedy. My name is Stephanie and my blog consists of all the best home remedies and I cover everything from Skin and Hair care, to house hold cleaning. I began researching home remedies about five years ago, mostly for skin care and after a while I decided to look into all natural ingredients and their benefits. My aim, is to create as many remedies as I possibly can.

Just as our hair needs conditioning treatment, so does the delicate skin of our face. Our face is the one thing that we leave uncovered for most of the day which means that as we walk around doing our day to day activities, our pores are open to all the pollutants around us. Washing your face daily cleanses and your follow up cream moisturizes, but from time to time we need to apply a nice healthy mask to our face for rejuvenation and healthy skin purposes.

We all have different skin types and we all will have different results with different ingredients of course, so I aim to make remedies and have my friends and family test them with me so that I can share diverse recipes that work for all! Here is a really good home remedy for moisturizing face mask.

Moisturizing Face Mask:

  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 tea spoon organic plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons flour – any type

Mix all the ingredients into a nice thick paste.

Rub the mixture into your face in small amounts like you would with lotion

Then apply a good amount all over and let it sit for about 30 minutes

Rinse and enjoy my home remedy for moisturizing face mask. Id strongly suggest following up with a natural toner and face cream, you can find my recipes under the facial cleansers and creams in the skin and body section.

Give this a try and enjoy the results! I’d love to know if you enjoyed this remedy so please leave and a comment after you have tried. I would also love to hear your favorite remedy so feel free to share them in the comments below.
