Last Minute Guide for your NYE style!

Wait a moment…is it December 30th already? You betcha! The month has flown by, Christmas has ended (ugh!) and the magical night that is New Year’s Eve is right around the corner – a.k.a. tomorrow. You may be totally prepared (like I am for onceor you may be freaking out on your way to the mall to find that perfect look for your big bash!

Well fear no more – I am here to give you some quick style tips so that you can look (and feel!) dazzling as you enter the big 2-0-1-6! I am going to show you how to put a look together with just five simple steps.

When I am assembling a look, I begin with the statement piece and style every other item around that. The statement piece could be a necklace, a pair of cute shoes, or a chic dress. On NYE, you will want to make your statement the outfit (dress, skirt/top, etc.)! These lovely ladies below put the focus on their NYE dress…

Tights or no tights?  I always wear tights when I go out this time of year because it is usually freezing. Tights can be anywhere from nylons (nude colour) to cute fashion tights in navy or black!

I like the unexpected sequins. Would be cute dressed down too.:

Tip: Wearing tights will lengthen the life of your shoes

(less friction from your heel against the material of the skin).

Shoes, shoes, shoes! Open toe – go for it. Closed toe – go for it. All bets are off! I definitely recommend matching your shoes to your dress. However, if the dress is a crazy colour, in many cases black goes perfectly. The fancier, the better!

Golden Plain Sequin Elastic Waist Long Leggings - Leggings - Bottoms:

nude + rainbow glitter heels. business in the front, party in the back?:

Add a little bling! I love jewelry as much as the next girl, and I definitely recommend it for NYE! However, it is not a must. Keep in mind, if you have a super sparkly (sequined) dress, you will want to make sure the jewelry doesn’t get lost! I recommend piling on some arm candy, and a snazzy pair of earrings!

Keeping it clutch with a matching clutch is the final step of putting your look together! Matching is definitely not necessary, but pulling out like colours in your outfit’s scheme is a great idea! Got gold sequins? Try a bronze toned clutch to soften the sparkle! If you can’t find a suitable colour…just like the shoes…turn to black!

What’s in my Clutch? Wedding Edition.

I’m hearing wedding bells this week! This weekend, my cousin is getting married and the family is completely immersed in everything wedding! Which is why, I am taking this opportunity to share my wedding clutch with you. Although the wedding is two days away, I have had my outfit planned for about two months now, right down to the pearl earrings (look forward to that outfit details post!!). When it comes to going to a high profile event, you need to make sure you have the essentials!!

Being a woman, we get kind of a pass on bringing a million things with us through the very convenient use of a purse or clutch. However, when you only have a limited amount of space, you must maximize and choose your items wisely! Well, fear no longer, because today I will be spilling the contents of my wedding clutch this weekend, and giving you a little preview as to what exactly I will be taking along with me on Saturday!

Keeping Beautiful: Foundation Stick, Lipstick, a Compact & Bobby Pins

This E.L.F. foundation stick is the perfect thing to keep in a bag, let alone a clutch. Weddings go on for hours, into the wee hours of the morning, and chances are, your make-up will not last as long as you want it to. That’s why, it’s good to have something to touch it up with!! What’s great about this foundation stick, is it is creamy and smooth, which allows you to blend easily with your fingers (just remember to wash your hands!! We don’t want make up stains on any of the linens now, do we?).

Who are we kidding? Do we really go anywhere without some kind of lip blam, stick or gloss? Well, I don’t. I have to have something that will keep my lips looking plump and fresh!! I am absolutely obsessed with Avon lip stick, which may come as a shock to some of you,  but trust me when I say this lip stick lasts. I usually don’t have to reapply throughout the work day, which is just what you need!! Plus, the colour is pretty cute too!

Now, this may or may not be applicable to some of you ladies. I, for one, like to be able to whip out my compact and use the mirror to check my teeth (crucial after eating salad), or do a quick make up check without having to go to the powder room. Although I will say this as a side note…if you do happen to need a touch up or pick the green out of your teeth, please excuse yourself!! (Excuse the mini-etiquette lesson). Having that compact, just makes those little side checks easier so you can keep the party going throughout the night!

This is also an optional item for some people, but I tend to keep a few bobby pins in any purse that I carry, only because I (or someone else) may need one at some point. I often curl my hair or put it up, and bobby pins tend to get lost along the way. In the event that that crucial pin holding your style in place falls out – not to worry, you have a spare! Like I said, totally optional, but for me…I like to have backups.

Quick Fixes: Sewing Kit, Tide-to-Go stick, Scotch Mints

Okay, I have to say this is probably the most important thing to have in your clutch when attending a wedding. Whether the bride’s dress rips, or someone’s pants get split down the middle, whoever has that oopsie malfunction will thank the heavens, and more importantly you, for coming to the rescue!! Let’s just say, the last wedding I was at, it would have been nice to have a needle and thread to save the day…

Another type of oopsie? Stains. I will be wearing mint green to the party this weekend and heaven forbid I spill something on my dress during one of the six courses…I want to be prepared. Now, I am a relatively clean eater, but being that I spilled coffee yesterday morning right down the front of my baby blue shirt (and actually had to purchase this exact stick), I will be playing it safe at the wedding!! I would highly recommend this addition to your clutch. Warning: the Tide-to-Go stick works poorly on white clothing. In my experience, it has left a yellow-tinged stain…so beware of how light the fabric is should you choose to use it.

Beside the fact that this little mint tin is super cute and feeds my Disney obsession, it is so important to keep fresh breath when you are interacting with hundreds of people. I prefer to keep scotch mints in my purse because I don’t necessarily like to be chewing gum in front of so many people. That may sound a tad extreme, but when you get caught chomping on a piece of gum – mid chew – in one of the candid wedding photos (which is then shared on Facebook about a thousand times)…you will be horrified. Trust me…pictures say a thousand words and you don’t want it to say “I chew with my mouth open!!”

The Oh-so-Important Stuff: Bill Fold/Wallet, Kleenex, your Phone

Being that most weddings are cash free or open bar, you don’t necessarily need to carry a wallet with you. I like to keep my crucial cards with me in the event that I need to find my own way home, or something unexpected comes up. If you don’t keep cards on you, you should have roughly $20, just in case. This bill-fold is sold at J.Crew and has been my best friend for the past six months I have owned it. It’s so great when you don’t want to carry a huge wallet with you, and also when switching bags!

Emotions run high at weddings, and that’s why you want to have something to catch those tears with. The best thing to have on you at a wedding are tissues!  Plus, this will help you keep your make up intact, so it doesn’t all wash away during the ceremony!!

This may seem a little obvious…but you need to make sure you have room in your clutch for your phone!! You don’t want to have it out the entire wedding (because how rude would that be?) and that most often gets overlooked when packing a bag. You also want to make sure you have something to take photos with!! So make sure you bring it along with you (and that it fits) because this is probably one of the most important items on this essentials round up!

Well, there you go – you have your essentials listed out for you right here! So if you are going to a wedding, make sure you pack accordingly so you are prepared for the best and the worst!! Having these items in your clutch will guarantee you a worry-free, fun-filled night! Which, of course, I plan to have on Saturday! Now I just can’t wait to detail my beautiful little number I put together for this exciting event – make sure you check back on Monday! This clutch is one that I picked up from Call it Spring – it comes in black too!

I am always curious to see what people keep in their bags, and even more interested to see how their clutch is organized! Do you have any essentials you bring to weddings? Leave them in the comments below!!
