Wardrobe Prep for the Fall Season

Fall has arrived which means cozy cardis, denim everything and boots galore! I have now been in my new place for a month and officially begun my second degree in teaching education. This is my favourite time of year. Why? I get to pull out my sweater collection as I am sipping on the classic PSL and look at new styles to sport for the season!

Up north, we transition into fall pretty quickly. It’s out of sandals and into the OTK boots in an instant, and I am quite alright with that. However, it can be a daunting task to switch over your wardrobe.

Which is why today, I want to help you prep your wardrobe for the fall season.

Fall Colours

There really is no designated, absolute colour palette for the fall season. I tend to gravitate to cooler, more earthy tones. It could be the changing of the leaves that strengthen my love for rust orange and wine-y purple, but if you’re a regular on the pin boards, you’ll know that certain colours belong to certain seasons.

Sticking to the Basics

Each season has their essentials. Fall happens to contain some favourite classics of mine that will take you through the season effortlessly. The white shirt, the leather jacket, and the ballet flat are among some of the top picks of mine for fall.

Layering

A look that will never go out of style is the layered look. Whether it’s a snazzy trench over a cashmere sweater or a pressed blouse under a classic cardigan, layering will always look sharp. As an added bonus, more layers equal keeping cozy in the cool air!

Transition Pieces

There is nothing I love more than a piece that can be transitioned from season to season. When switching your wardrobe over to fall, think about if you can utilize a piece you’ve been wearing all summer into your fall closet. Often, cute summery day dresses can be accessorized for fall so you have a brand new, unique look!

I am using this week to switch my wardrobe over, get prepped for the cooler season and revamp my winter looks. It’s probably one of my most favourite and most stressful hobbies to do!

How are you transitioning your wardrobe? Let me know in the comments below!

Tartan + Navy Blue

I am starting to believe Punxsutawney Phil…no shadow…early Spring (and is it ever!) Yesterday, I didn’t even need my Winter coat and although today is brisk, the Winter coat is still too heavy for the weather that we are having! I can’t say I am overly thrilled about it because I do enjoy a beautiful snowfall, however, I am excited to not have to bundle up and be permanently cold for the next couple of months! Sunshine, sunshine and more sunshine – so I can’t complain!

I love having unique pieces (like these tartan leggings) in my wardrobe that I can make the focal point of my look. I saw these tartan leggings on Amanda of Little Southern Life and I instantly needed them in my wardrobe. I have to say, they are one of my comfiest pairs of leggings I own to date. One of my favourite things to do is pair wildly unique pieces with more classic pieces (I just love the contrast), which is why the more conservative sweater + oxford combo was a no-brainer! Sophisticated and chic was my aim for this look!

So much is coming up in the next week and a half, but after that, I finally get a well-deserved Reading break! I can’t wait to move home and spend some QT with the family watching movies, going shopping and doing other fun stuff when I’m home! Not to mention relax and not worry about school (ick!).

Cheers!

5 Timeless Classics: What you need in your wardrobe…

There are some clothing items that are simply classic. Classics are timeless. For the Fall season, there are some classics that have always been in style…which is what I am going to outline for you today! A few weeks ago, I broke down the essentials that you need to have in your closet for the Fall season. This is similar, but these items that I am going to go over today have always been alive and always will be. No fads, not flavors of the month…always.

The White Blouse

This is a staple for all year around. However, in the Fall season, white blouses are really nice to have as a neutral. Layering with a white blouse can make for a great look, whether you layer it under a faux fur vest, a jean jacket or a sweater! However, you can also wear it on it’s own and just accessorize. It’s a very plain item that can be left on it’s own, or dressed up to the nines!

The Skinny Jeans

Dark or light, skinny jeans are classic. I read this really cool article about skinny jean history and funny enough, skinny jeans came into style in the 1950s! In my lifetime, they have always been in trend and I have always worn them! Personally, I love skinny jeans or “slim-leg” jeans because they are stretchy and comfortable (provided you wear the correct size). In the Fall season, jeans are an absolute must. They are comfortable, casual, and and the most important wardrobe item of the season.

The Sneakers

Realistically, you can’t live in heels. I love heels and wedges as much as the next girl, but sometimes you just can’t survive the day. So an alternative (other than flats) to footwear in the Fall is sneakers. A good pair of sneakers is necessary for the Fall season. Keep those toes warm and keep the style train moving! Personally, I love white sneakers, but I think other colours are great to have as well (red, navy, black, etc…). Sneakers have always been in style, whether they were worn in gym class or for running errands!

The Black Tote

You really cannot go wrong with a black bag. As you can see in many of the looks above, black bags go with pretty much everything. In a clutch? Perfect. In a satchel? Magnificent. In a shoulder bag? Fabulous. Black bags don’t just go with everything, they go with anything and everything! Wear it with jeans and a tee. Wear it with a mini dress and fashion hat. Wear it with flannel and high waisted pants. Everything works here.

The Baseball Cap

With wind constantly blowing around, and the weather being iffy in the Fall, hats are such a great alternative to doing your hair up every morning! However, sometimes you don’t always feel like rocking a fashion hat and Fall isn’t technically cold enough for a toque. Enter the baseball cap! I used to be against the baseball cap look because I felt that it made my head look huge. Well, in the past month or so, I have jumped on the bandwagon, and now I can’t stop wearing a baseball cap!!

There are many items that are timeless in a wardrobe, but these five are very important! I love how all of these items look on and I love how you can mix them with each other! Sneakers with a baseball cap, jeans and a white blouse? What a combo! In fact, that sounds like a pretty great details post…SO stay tuned for the follow up to these timeless classics of Fall in a future post…because that will happen!!

CLASSIC IN BLACK

The leaves are changing colour right now and I am so grateful because it makes an AMAZING backdrop to some fun new Fall looks! As Fall break continues, it is really hard to focus on my studies – especially when the weather is so great…not to mention cable TV (I don’t have cable at school…)

The little black dress is essential to have in your closet. Even though this is a rather short and summery LBD, the Fall season is not a good enough reason to put this little number into hibernation for the cold season. I try and transition all of my summer dresses as best as I can. Cardigans can be super tricky – the arms are too tight, or the body is too short…well I bring to you the worry-free “Clare Cardigan” by J.Crew (which is my new best friend). It is a great fit and comes in, like, every colour. Pearls are classic in every way and have been around forever. From Audrey Hepburn, to Jackie O, to Kate Middleton, pearls have been worn with class and true style. I adore the colour cognac and even more, I adore these boots. They are probably my favourite pair of boots this Fall season and I never get tired of rocking them with tights, dresses, skirts or pants!

This was a truly “pinspired” look because as I have seen it all over Pinterest. I have definitely put my own spin on it and made it my own (with the pearls, of course!). The pearls, the LBD, the heeled boots…all ingredients for a perfect outfit! I will never get tired of dressing up!

Cheers!

Pairing a Classic Oxford with a Sleeveless Dress

My new obsession as of this week is a business casual look. It’s classic, cute and completely in style. Taking a collared oxford and pairing it with a sleeveless dress is the perfect way to spice up the usual work look. It is one of the cutest work looks I have seen yet!

I have been rocking variations of this look lately, and I have to give credit where credit is due. Today, I am going to showcase some lovely inspirational pins that inspired me to start rocking this ensemble! Normally, I would break it down into different variations of the look, but really every variation looks just as classy as the next…

Classically Colourful

Source

I love this variation of the look because it is classic and cute. The light, airy vibe of the ensemble makes me so happy and it’s so differently styled compared to the rest. I love how the look is topped off with a beautiful costume necklace placed under the collar – so chic!

Classically Casual

Source

I, personally, have never tried this particular variation. However, I think it is so wonderfully classic and casual, that I just might. A big bulky sweater dress with a collar completely screams perfect! I also love the neutral tones of the overall look.

Classically Creative

It’s always good to get creative with your looks. Whether you’re adding a fun pattern, or a stand-out piece of jewelry, fashion is a way to express yourself. I love this outfit version because she has such a fun tone to it – the print, the accessories – they are all magnificent!

With me going downtown and having to have these very professional outfits…this is such a nice switch up to what I usually wear. I like to have fun with putting looks together, and I was truly “pinspired” when I saw these wonderful photos.
