#WishlistWednesday: Monogram Everything!

Monograms are pretty much the key to all preppy looks. I love them because it is personal and a way to express your personality. My monogram wishlist is so long, but I am going to choose my top three monogram wishlist items to profile this week. At this point, I really should have a closet full of monogrammed items…but unfortunately, it is pretty hard to get things monogrammed with my correct initials! I have four initials due to the fact that I have two middle names. Now, most people would just use the first middle initial and let the other one fall by the wayside…but I don’t think that’s right. Especially in my case because each middle name is representative of one side of my family (my Mom’s and my Dad’s).

The first monogram item that I got was my monogram necklace. I found an Esty provider that made a sterling silver necklace with four initials! After trying three different Etsy providers, fourth time was a charm and I was wearing the pretty little thing on my neck in no time!!

My Monogram Necklace, NameJewelry

Monogrammed Crew Neck Sweatshirt {Various retailers}

There are many retailers and Etsy providers that sell monogrammed items, but Marley Lilly is probably one of the most popular online retailers that I have heard about. Their stuff is pretty great, but I don’t order too often, because their shipping isn’t too “Canada-friendly” (pretty pricey!!). What I love about this crew neck sweatshirt is how the monogram takes up the entire face of the sweatshirt! It is so big and “in your face”, and I can’t deny my love for this piece of clothing! (The colour is pretty uh-mazing too!)

Monogrammed Charm Watch {BeauTresors on Etsy}

How adorable is this watch? How could I not own one of these? There would be nothing better than to see my initials on this piece of jewelry…every time I need to check the time! Another thing to note: four initials are possible with this provider on Etsy. If you haven’t explored the pages of Etsy, than you are missing out!! There are even more prints available as backgrounds, too – definitely on my wishlist!

Monogrammed Boat and Tote Bag {L.L. Bean

I found out about these bags on Pinterest. They are really simple, and very useful! They come in a variety of colours and don’t automatically come monogrammed. You can have them monogrammed, if you like (why wouldn’t you?). I love this monogrammed tote,  because it is the perfect preppy touch to a summer look. It is reasonably priced as well, which is not a bad thing! Whatever your preference – a single letter, three initials or your name spelled out – they do it all!!

What is the etiquette for monogramming? – check out Friday’s post to find out more about the rules of the monogram.

There are so many things you can monogram. Bags, coats, jackets, vests, rain boots – and I am onside with all of it!!

What is your favourite monogrammed item? Share yours with me in the comments below! (Notice the #WishlistWednesday graphics? They are pin-able, so if you like, pin the graphic!)

Outfit Details: Summer Printed Slip Skirt

I have been a regular shopper at Winners for a while now, and am always on the hunt for a great deal. This week, while flipping through the racks, I fell in love with the most amazing slip skirt ever. It has now ranked in my top favourite looks that I have worn so far. Not only did I find this printed slip skirt, I also found this cute woven tote that makes the perfect weekend bag.

I love the detail in the skirt. The white palm leaves with the blue backing really makes it a fun wear for outside or lounging by the pool. It kind of reminds me of Lilly Pulitzer – fun and summery prints. When I first grabbed this skirt off the rack, I thought it was a maxi skirt (which I got excited for…because I don’t have any printed maxis)…little did I know until I looked more closely, that it has a slip right up one side! Perfect and airy for a summer day!

Now, I have to dedicate this portion of today’s post to this fun tote. I have always liked the look of woven straw accessories, but it’s pretty hard to find one that has a design on it as well. Well, as my luck would have it, this tote was right in front of me as I strolled the isles of Winners on Friday night.

It’s not just any woven bag. It has the perfect, subtle details that makes the overall look adorable. You never know what you are going to find at Winners, and in looking for this bag online (just to find out who makes it), I found out that you can get the exact bag that I’ve styled at Kohl’sand, even better, it’s on sale right now!

This skirt is pretty lengthy, and being the short girl that I am, I needed to boost my height a bit. And what better way to do it, than with these to-die-for Le Chateau wedges? I am pretty obsessed with them right now, especially because I had no idea Le Chateau even sold shoes!! A pretty great surprise, if you ask me!

Well that’s my look of the weekend, and my favourite look at that!! (went a little crazy with the photos…oops!)

Navy Blue Capris are my new favourite!

There are many essentials that a girl should have in her wardrobe, and one of them is a pair of good capris. They are amazing – perfect for work, just the right length and a great option for any occasion! Capris are a super cute way to keep casual in the spring or summer. Now that we are in the middle of June, capris are an absolute staple. My favourite pair of capris right now are made by Dalia. You can usually find this brand at wholesale stores, Costco being the primary place that I have found this brand. Dalia is great for anything casual and their stuff is really cute, at a good price.

The looks that I have put together with these Dalia navy capris are pretty, simple and classic. I wanted to display my looks in a different format for this post, so I pulled out my Polyvore app and replicated the looks, all laid in out in full view.* Make sure you check them out below!

Look #1: Sweatshirt blazer, white blouse top, navy capris, pointed shoes and a statement necklace.

This look was one of my more comfortable looks of the work week. I got this sweatshirt blazer from Avon, and I have to say…it is the most comfortable thing to wear to the office on a rainy day. This blazer is for those days where you just don’t want to dress up, but you still want to look dressed up. It is super easy to pair this with a statement necklace and some comfy bottoms. Because navy is such a versatile colour, and it is being worn on the bottom of the ensemble, I opted for lighter, softer colours on the top of my outfit. Tying it all together, the pop of pink in the statement necklace, really completes the entire outfit. (Btw, for some reason, the capris look black in this photo…but I swear they are the same ones…)

Look #2: White oxford shirt, red blazer, navy capris, pearls, nude kitten heels.

I am obsessed with the colour combo of navy and red. It’s nautical, it’s summery, and it is so classic. I can’t wait to coordinate more outfits using this colour palette! This look was one of my favourites in the past month. With a bold colour like red, you want to make sure that it is the statement piece of the outfit. You don’t want to upstage the blazer with a wacky necklace, or even really high heels. You want everything to flow properly and the focus to stay on one thing. That’s where the navy capris come in. Navy is a soft colour, as opposed to black which can look very harsh (especially next to red). Notice that the navy doesn’t present as a harsh negative against the bright red, it blends in really well and makes for a cute ensemble!

Look #3: White shell, navy capris, pearls, strappy wedges and the black handbag.

I was so excited to wear this look out in public. I got so many compliments that day, that I had to include it in this post! Believe it or not, I carefully thought this outfit out the night before I wore it. I will tell you why. I was trying to decide if I needed a blazer or a cardigan to go with it. This is the first time I wore my navy capris to work, and so I was trying to dress them up. It wasn’t until I had tried on about three different tops/blazers/sweaters that I realized that I didn’t need to. Finally, the last outfit I tried on, was this…I was in the middle of looking for a pink blazer, and then stopped and looked and found that this was enough. Definitely one of my favourite looks I have worn this season!

The overall message here, is that capris look great! If you don’t have a pair of capris, you should go out and find the ones that fit you the best. I give one tip, when shopping for capris: make sure they aren’t too tight. There is nothing worse than having your capris bunch in places you don’t want them to bunch. Unlike pants, they are already cropped up to mid-calf, so any more bunching will just look like you are wearing pants that shrunk in the wash. That pretty much goes without saying though, you always try on clothing before you buy it.

I want to hear your favourite summer trends or pieces that you are sporting this summer! So leave a comment below and tell me all about it! I leave you with two of the outfits (above) that I styled on Polyvore*:

#WishlistWednesday: Scalloped Dress

I really never run out of things to talk about when it comes to style. I could go on and on about how many things are out there right now that I would love to have in my closet. However, there is one dress that I have been in love with for about a year, and that has evolved into an obsession of this overall cut. What could I be talking about? I am talking about the scalloped dress. Really, any scallop cut piece is so attractive to me. Unfortunately, I own absolutely no scallop cut items, but I absolutely want to.

I don’t know where this dress style originated, but I have mostly found it being sold at J Crew or J Crew Factory. There are usually many colours offered, but they sell out pretty quickly. The tricky thing with this dress is that you must try it on because it is a shift dress. You don’t want to order it online, unwrap the package and find that it doesn’t fit or doesn’t fall where you want it to. This is definitely an in-store purchase…which requires me going to the store (lazy, I know). Although I have not seen this cut sold at too many retailers, I did a little research, and have found some other retailers.

Joyce Scallop Dress – Club Monaco, $149.00

Club_Monoco_ScallopWhen I browsed the pages of the internet to see where in the world (other than J Crew Factory) you could purchase a scalloped cut dress, I didn’t find much. Until I came across Club Monaco. They sell this beautiful t-shirt shift dress with a scalloped trim. This dress is not only gorgeous, but the colour of it is absolutely to die for. They have named the colour “Celadon”, but to me, it reminds me of a light Tiffany blue – perfect for summer. I cannot guarantee the actual quality, but I do love Club Monaco, so I am sure it would not disappoint.

The Lucky One Peach Scalloped Dress – Monday Dress, $39.99

This is not exactly my favourite dress,  but I do love the scalloped detail on the neckline. Like I have said, not too many retailers sell a true scalloped cut dress right now, however, this dress does fall in line with the trend. What I do like about this dress is the light, summer colour, the beautiful neckline and the length that the dress falls. With many shift dresses, the length is too short and shows a lot of what many people don’t want to see. You want to find that perfect length where it is cute and fun, and not revealing too much.

Factory Scalloped Trim Dress – J Crew Factory, $116.00

This is the dress that got me hooked on this type of dress. Actually, not this particular dress…but this exact style. I was in a store about a year ago, and I see this beautiful cobalt blue scalloped trim dress, and I wanted it incredibly badly. However, it was way too expensive for me at the time, and so I regretfully put it back on the rack. Worst mistake of my life (so much regret!!). Luckily, these dresses have come back another year, in different colours and often go on sale at the factory!! This is my favourite colour of this year, it is beautiful for summer and such a great colour to coordinate with other pieces.

Well, those are my #WishlistWednesday picks for this week!! If you know of any retailers that supply this scallop cut, let me know in the comments below! I am always on the prowl for a good scalloped cut dress.

Outfit Details: the Silver Anniversary

I’m not much of an event planner, but I do kick it into high gear when I need to (if I do say so myself) and for a co-hostess of a silver anniversary party, you have to look like you’re ready to put on a perfect event. Which is why I am so happy that I had the perfect outfit to wear! This past weekend, my sister and I hosted a beautiful high tea reception for the best parents two young girls could ask for! It was absolutely lovely and such a gorgeous day!

People always seem to struggle with what to wear to major events (weddings, baby showers, etc.). My go-to is to stick to the season, and pick a colour. That in mind, you don’t want to wear the same colour to everything you go to. Mix it up and keep it fun. For this party, I chose to wear one of my favourite dresses by Kate Spade New York.

This is Kate Spade’s “Tanner” dress in navy and white floral. It’s an absolutely gorgeous fit and is the ultimate focus of the ensemble. This is the kind of dress that you don’t want to overpower with too much jewelry, really obnoxious shoes, or any other piece for that matter. It is simple and classic, and doesn’t need anything else to make it look amazing! The only accessory I felt important to include, was the oh-so-essential string of pearls! I paired this dress with a low kitten heel shoe in nude. These shoes are a staple in my wardrobe. Believe it or not, they are from Payless Shoesource. Yes, they are inexpensive, and not the highest quality, but in my opinion, they are replaceable and comfortable to wear (they are Comfort Plus after all).

I wish my curls had held up as well as they did at the beginning of the day. Pictures were taken near the end of the reception, so my curls had fallen, but I guess the soft waves aren’t a huge fault in this overall look. I will definitely be styling this baby again soon, it has now taken the spot of my favourite dress of all time!!

It was an amazing day and high tea and such a tribute to my parent’s beautiful marriage. Happy silver anniversary Mom and Dad!
