#WishlistWednesday: Plaid Accessories

#WISHLISTWEDNESDAYI really love the plaid pattern and really anything that it comes in. There have been several new plaid trends in the past year, and one of them that I am loving is plaid accessories. Whether it is red, green or black with grey hues, it is absolutely marvelous and I am excited to show you the fabulous accessories that I have found for you! Bags, gloves, and scarves – the whole lot is here today.

Similar to my “Booties, booties, booties” post that I released a couple of weeks ago, I am going to show you three groupings of plaid accessories and only the best that I have chosen to talk about! Plaid is such a staple in the Fall, whether you wear it in a flannel shirt, pants or even in an accessory. I love working with plaid accessories because they put the right spin on your outfit and take it to the next level! Most people associate plaid with Christmas, but I associate with the entire Fall and Winter season! Since the season is quickly approaching, why not break out the plaid accessories?

The Plaid Bag. Whether it comes in a tote, handbag or clutch, plaid is in for this season. Personally, I am in love with the red plaid bag on the right. I like the structure and the colour scheme…pretty much the entire bag (to be honest!!). These three gorgeous bags I picked are from (left to right) Kate Spade New York, Lauren Ralph Lauren, and Tory Burch and they are all linked for your shopping enjoyment!

Being that plaid is a pattern that you can mix with so many great colour schemes, in a bag, it can also be the focal point of your outfit. Pair that red plaid bag with a black neutral background, then BAM! There’s a statement. If you want to go fore more of a neutral plaid pattern, then the middle and far right bag are the bags to do so. The colour schemes aren’t so harsh and have more colours to pick up in an outfit. Plus, the blue clutch is adorable!!

The Plaid Glove. Gloves are probably my favourite Fall accessory. I have a nice pair of cognac leather ones that I got from my Grandmother last year. They keep me so warm in the winter time, plus mittens are often too inconvenient (or at least, for me). Gloves are a great accessory to step up your look. These three pairs of gloves I picked are from (left to right) Coach, Vivienne Westwood, and Halogen and they are all linked as well!

Glove 1

I like to mix up my glove wear between leather and cotton, depending on what kind of day it is. If I know that I am going to be using my hands a lot or carrying a lot of things, I go for cotton because it is easier fabric to move your fingers around in. However, if we are talking about style, than I always pick leather over anything else. Like I said, my favourite pair of gloves are cognac leather, but these three that I have picked out are right in trend. The variations of plaid (red, neutral and blue) are perfect for the Fall and Winter seasons and will keep you toasty warm.

The Plaid Scarf. Everyone loves a good blanket scarf, but these aren’t the only types of plaid scarves there are! Plaid scarves are probably the most common accessory you will find in my closet, only because they are so easy and quick to style. These three scarves that I picked are from (left to right) Style & Co., Lord & Taylor, and Garage and they are all linked as well!

         Scarf 3

You have the classic Burberry scarf that is probably the most attractive type of plaid out there (personally, one of my favourite patterns), the red plaid scarf and then the infamous blanket scarf. I own a couple of blanket scarves and they are probably the best types of scarves out there (I could go on and on about them…really)! I really love the red plaid scarves for the Fall/Winter seasons because they are so festive and really step your look up (especially in the Winter).

So that’s all I have to say on plaid accessories. They are really great to have, and even if you only have the scarf…work it! I have to say, the pattern is super fun to style and accessorize, and as we transition more into the Winter season, you will see a lot of plaid come out in trend. All of the items I mentioned are linked up here and down below…I have also included a few other links below to items that I love but did not feature! Enjoy!

What is the best plaid item you have ever seen? Do you own any plaid treasures? Let me know in the comments below!!

Transition your Wardrobe: Summer Dresses

TRANSITIONINGAlthough we all love the Fall season, it is sad to say good bye to Summer. The hot, burning sun is gone, the cool Summer breezes are history and until next year, your best bet is to stash those Summer pieces away, right? Well, just hang on one second. There are a few select pieces that you can use in the Fall season that you may not think of. Today, I am going to show you some examples of transitioning your Summer dresses so you can hold on to that last little glimpse of the Summer season.

With the right accessories, you won’t have to say goodbye to your cute little sun dresses that you thought were only for Summer! I am going to show you by using these simple tips, you will keep the Summer looks alive, with a Fall twist.

Work that Utility Vest. The utility vest is probably the easiest way to dress up a summer dress. Take a look at this super cute black and white thin stripe t-shirt dress (left). This is a really cute Summer look…so why would you want to toss it in the back of your closet, until the hot summer rays rain down again? You wouldn’t. Now, take a look at how she transitioned this dress into Fall wear (right). The khaki utility vest brings in the Fall tones, completely transitioning the outfit into a different season (yes, it is that easy…)

Short Sleeve Stripes Dress. Throw on cute little sneakers or flip flops and it's a casual day at the beach:):      Striped dress + utility vest

Recycle those Florals! Floral is often seen as a “Summer-only” pattern. For a while, I totally agreed with that statement, however this season, we are seeing a lot more patterns come into play for the Fall. I have been seeing florals recycled into Fall outfits (which I have to admit, is not so bad). Now, the two photos below are different dresses/patterns (obviously), but I would like to point out, just because the bright colours (left) are typically styled for Summer, doesn’t mean you couldn’t transition this type of bright pattern like the darker outfit shown (right). Fall doesn’t have to be dark tones across the board…we need a little bright colour in our lives!! How she layered with the belt, knit infinity, cardigan and (especially) the tights are an excellent way to transition your cute Summer sundress.

Don’t put that LBD away. I always love to find a way to keep wearing the little black dress (or six) that I own. First of all, black pretty much flies in any season (never put away the black). Again, this is a great example of layering. I wouldn’t say that you had to layer the little black dress if you wanted to wear it out…but if you want to keep cozy and go for that true, Fall look…then pay attention to this lady with the puppy (right). She has accessorized with an oversized cardi (love!), and wine accessories (my love for wine is strong…). This is one look to replicate for the Fall, for sure. As an added bonus, the high knee socks top this look off.

Love this dress! Check out some similar ones from Southern Elle Style http://www.shopsouthernelle.com/blogfeed/the-4-types-of-lbds-you-should-own:      I would like this outfit a million times better if the model took her socks off:

Those are my three best ways to transition Summer dresses. I would have loved to show you my rendition of these outfits (and I probably soon will)…but between essays, papers and volunteer work…there just wasn’t enough time to prep it for you. Perhaps I will come out with a part two of this post (hmmm, the wheels are turning!).

How do you transition your dresses? Do you step out in your Summer florals in the Fall? Let me know in the comments below!!

Outfit Details: Homecoming Fashion

This past weekend was my last university homecoming weekend/celebration and it was a blast! Free stuff, football games, hot dogs, Starbucks, amazing breakfasts, cheers…I could go on forever. It was a spectacular weekend full of fun, friends and smiles…but most of all, the fashion was on point. A few weeks ago, I gave you three prime hoco looks for her, so that you could dress your best for those winning moments of fun…so it’s only right if I share how I dressed for the weekend of the Fall!

Spoiler Alert: This is not the most glamorous look you have seen…trust me. I mean, the important thing is that I had school spirit, right?? However, it held up in the beautiful weather, and looked cute too.

2

For this look, it was all about trying to incorporate school spirit and the school colours: maroon and grey. Now, out of the two, I picked maroon because it is my favourite over grey (obviously). Being the spirited individual I am, I have a lot of university clothing. Since it was a football game, I picked my #1 jersey (to be festive for the football game)!

3

Along with the jersey, it was high waisted jeans and striped knee socks! I wear these knee socks to pretty much every football game. I don’t know why, but it doesn’t feel like a true football game without the knee socks. They are so fun and cute, plus when it gets into the cool Fall weather, they keep you nice and warm!

4

I have highlighted these shoes before. I picked these up this past summer at Payless Shoesource for literally nothing and I have worn them out, but they are by far, the most comfortable pair of sneakers that I own. They look cute with almost everything…so thank you City Sneaks.

5

This is probably my favourite way to wear my hair now – bows, bows and more bows! I only own one (made by Auntie Marisa’s Homemade Bows) and it absolutely adorable! I was going to wear a baseball cap, but when I found this bow, I just had to do my hair up in it (to be festive, of course!). I have to say, however, wearing my hair down on a windy day was not the best decision…but for the pictures beforehand, it made for some cute looks!! Accessories are always a great way to show your support for your team. My friend always wears a wristband she got from SleekWristbands.com, it has our team name and slogan on it. You can be as creative as you want with accessories, from bows and socks, to wristbands. It doesn’t matter as long as you’re supporting your team!

1

At the end of the day, the focus is on the players, the school and winning (because we are the best) and I am happy to report that we celebrated our university right into the win that we deserve! Number one we are, and number one we will stay!!

Inside My Mind: Personal Goals v11

BLOGGER (2)It’s the 11th volume of this series…but I am not stopping! I considered letting this series fall by the way side, but then I realized that this series is exactly what keeps me on track with my posts! I get to set goals for myself and then see how I measure up a week later. Sometimes, of course, I have to reconsider how long I need for a particular goal, and not pile too, too much on my plate (because, I am a full time student, you know!!). I just love to look back each week and see what I need to work on versus what I accomplished! Such fun!

Last time, I set one goal for myself (in addition to one other goal I had on the list):

1. Learn Bloglovin’. Still working on this one. To be honest, it’s not difficult…I’m sure it is super easy to learn. What is difficult, is actually doing it and making the time. I will get this done, because it can lead to more followers and overall can be very beneficial for Pearls and Polkadots. Goal, set, match.

Write my next seven postsAccomplished! Need I say more? I literally planned ahead and got them all schedule before their release dates (posts that is) so that I could have time to be social, dance and go to homecoming!! I am going to (cross my fingers) try to continue this practice.

This week, I have one goal to add to my list:

Look into a linkup party and begin to plan mine. I am really excited to get in to link up parties. I have attended a few, but never actually hosted one. I don’t know what it takes and I’m sure there is a lot of planning involved, so I am going to begin this process to see if I want to do it or not. Hopefully I will know by November!

Well, there are my goals for the day. I have been keeping the list really small these days, only because I don’t want to set goals that I won’t meet each week! I have some exciting things planned for the future that will roll out over the next couple of months. So that is something I am excited for!

Hopefully everyone is having a marvelous weekend!

Pinterest Finds of the Week: The Last Four

PINTEREST FINDS OF THE WEEKIn the past, I have picked a topic or area of fashion to review with regard to what pins I have pinned that week. Whether I have focused on the colour pink, or trendy fashion, I have shown you the pins that I have found and liked, and reviewed them right here for you!

Well, today, I don’t want to have such a structure as that. I am going to go into my board now, with no knowledge of what I have just pinned and just choose the most recent four. Why am I doing this? Well, this way you can see the cross section of styles that I truly like – because I do have a cross section. Sometimes I love midriff tops, sometimes I am dying over oxfords under sweaters…it truly depends on the way it is styled…so here we go:

For this post, I am going to use my oh-so-populated board, “Dream Closet”

Pinterest Dream Board

There we go…You can see that I am kind of digging the Fall looks (but who isn’t?). So let’s get to reviewing, shall we?

What caught my eye to pin this? That’s easy…the olive shirt, obviously. Last week, I went over several of my favourite olive coloured items. This is one of my favourite colours right now and worn in a shirt is to-die-for, if you ask me! I don’t usually go for ripped jeans, but with this laid back look, they are totally working. I am one for cuffing my jeans. I just think it makes for an interesting and cute look (so don’t go and get your jeans hemmed!!). Another colour I obsessed with right now, is cognac. These cognac sandals and bag are probably the best accessory pieces to go with this laid back look. Plus, you can never go wrong with Steve Madden.

cffac5d91b63ebd6d91de2fb728e436a.jpg 489×750 pixels:

If you aren’t a fan of Blake Lively, we can’t be friends. Even after her GG days, I was obsessed. She has the most impeccable style and class, and of course, her husband is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s! I also kind of love that he is Canadian…but we’re talking about her! This outfit is so cute – she really works the blanket scarf well, and her bag is probably the best thing that I have seen. What I want to highlight about this look is the colour scheme! I’m not entirely sure when this photo was taken, but judging by the neutrals and blacks used throughout the look, it’s Fall (even better!). The focal point is definitely her blanket scarf, but what I like is that the bag can also be the focal point…but not so much that it is upstaging the scarf. I just love her.

Blake Lively's latest street style is all shoppable!!!:

Other than the fact that this couple is adorable…her outfit is also super cute. It kind of reminds me of Blair Waldorf (which is not a bad thing, by any means). I put these two pins together (I found them on separate occasions), only because it’s literally the same girl, same outfit. As you know, I love cable knit, blaid, winter white…everything. So this outfit is actually perfectly in accordance with my taste. I really love her red beanie hat…I think that really makes the outfit pop…otherwise the outfit is mainly neutral, ties in with the scenery and overall just a really nice look. I’d also like to point out her cognac leather gloves…those are adorable too and definitely

Black gingham shirt, white cable sweater, green plaid skirt, nude heels, red beanie, tan crossbody & sparkly necklace. Classy Girls Wear Pearls.: one of my favorite purchases this season was this plaid skirt by J.Crew; styled impeccably by Sarah Vickers.:

This is such a useful look to keep in your back pocket. It can be worn to work, but you can also wear it casually as well! The oxford dresses it up, while the skirt can play it down a bit. My favourite part of this outfit is the colour scheme (shocker!!). I really love navy blue, and the pops of red in the clutch and heels are perfectly in line with what I would wear (and love). If you didn’t want to go so dressy with the oxford (or the heels), you could switch it out with a casual vneck and flats, or even just a regular t-shirt. This is just the simplest look and really looks good in any situation!!

Would love to hijabify this.. wide leg pants in the same fabric as that skirt would be cute with the same shoes and shirt

There you have it…the new spin on “Pinterest Finds of the Week”. I kind of like this format, only because it’s not so structured…and you never know what I’m going to pin (it is my favourite pastime, you know…)!

Do you have some picks that you would like to share? Leave a link to your favourite board below and I will go have a look…I am always looking for a little pinspiration!
