Upgrading my Vision with Rossland Optical

Getting into my adulthood, I have started to learn how important it is to keep up with your health. Now, this may seem like a simple concept for most people, but transitioning from being a student to a full blown working adult is well, overwhelming (to say the least!). Vision care was always something that ranked low on my list of priorities. Especially when I was in school as there were no benefits to get me what I needed (and badly!).

As I’ve started getting older, I’ve noticed my vision getting worse. I have had glasses since I was fourteen and been through the bad lenses and the even worse lenses. Plus, style was never a major consideration because cost was always the top priority when getting a new pair of glasses.

It wasn’t until May of last year, where I felt completely comfortable and encouraged to get new glasses. New glasses that I loved style wise, but also did what glasses are supposed to do: improve your vision. After attending an event hosted by Inspired by Rossland Optical, and actually getting to try on their selection of beautiful frames, I couldn’t get it off my mind.

Of course, once it was confirmed that I not only had a full-time teaching position (that came with benefits that is), I started to consider getting a new pair of frames + lenses. Once I got that on my mind, it was like all of my vision issues came right to the forefront…I needed to make a change.

To put it in perspective, before sitting down for my consultation with Dana, I had been rocking the same glasses for 5+ years. In fact, it wasn’t until I finally got my new lenses in that I realized…I really wasn’t seeing anything clearly.

But let’s back up here because I didn’t just get new glasses. I got a personal, comfortable, and amazing experience selecting my stylish frames, and my road to finding my perfect pair was simple.

Gathering a selection of frames.

I had no idea what to expect when I arrived for my consultation. In fact, I was downright nervous. Honestly? Selecting something as personal and crucial to your look, like glasses, gives me a lot of anxiety. What would look good on me? Should I dare to try something new? What colour should I go for? All of these worries and questions evaporated as soon as we started the process.

When you sit down, right from the beginning, you go through how your glasses are apart of your life. What do you use them for? How will they be affected and used throughout your day-to-day activities. I am a kindergarten teacher. Naturally, I spend a lot of time bent over or on the floor (tying shoe laces, doing up zippers…). You need frames and glasses that will fit your needs…and Dana puts a lot of emphasis on that.

Once Dana knows what you need, the try-on session begins! Dana makes sure that the frames you select fit your facial shape, fit your style, and even throws in some daring options so you can take risks if you want to!

We tried a lot of frames, and ultimately, I went with a similar style that I was used to, but in a colour that completely matched the undertone of my skin. I must say, Dana knows what she is talking about and doesn’t hesitate to give you her opinion and tells you what looks best – something that I definitely need since I can be so indecisive.

Selecting my new glasses.

I tried on many pairs of frames, and when it came down to selecting a pair, it was difficult. Fortunately, Dana helped me narrow down my choices and highlighted the things that I had said were important to me. In fact, we did a process of elimination where I was faced with two similar pairs and I had to pick one. This was immensely helpful because without missing a beat, I was able to select between two pairs, instead of looking at an array of four or five and getting overwhelmed with the choice.

Once you select your frames, Dana does extensive measuring, making sure everything fits properly. She finished up, placed the order…and then we moved on to sunglasses.

Add on the sunnies.

I have never owned a pair of sunglasses I like. In fact, I have always opted for the cheapies from the mall that I wear either with no prescription (hello blind me!) or with contacts (which I don’t wear often). However, what better time than when getting a new pair of stylish frames, then to get a pair of sunnies that I will wear and can actually see out of?

Fortunately, I had already gotten a feel for the different styles, and what I actually ended up doing was selecting the frames I loved second best in my glasses, for my sunglasses! Win, win!

The Overall Experience

After it was all said and done, I was so pleased. Sitting down with Dana at Inspired by Rossland Optical is not only informative, but it’s a relaxing and pleasant experience.

Not only is the space beautiful, they also have an area to grab a coffee while waiting for your appointment!

I can’t tell you how comfortable I felt with Dana throughout the whole process. It definitely was eye opening (haha!) in that there are many different components to consider when upgrading your vision!

Glitz and Glamour w/ ILYMIX

Don’t you just love it when you find the perfect accessories? I am extremely picky when it comes to jewelry, sunglasses, or any other accessory. I love to examine pieces, match them with looks before I even make the purchase, and most of all, I like them to fit in with my style exactly as how I picture it.

I know…sounds a little crazy, right? It really isn’t though. When you find that perfect statement necklace that you’ve been looking for, it’s the greatest feeling.

Glitz and Glamour w/ ILYMIX - Pearls and Polkadots

For this upcoming season, I have been focusing on getting pretty, detailed pieces. That’s where ILYMIX comes in…

Rocking a good pair of sunnies and a stunning statement necklace is important in the hot season. Why, you ask? Because it is the season of strutting your stuff. Fall and winter are the times to cover up and sport the layers, but with summer, it is all about cute accessories.

ILYMIX fills all my accessory needs, and I think it’s safe to say that I am a huge supporter of their boutique!

You can shop ILYMIX yourself by heading over here.

Cheers to the Weekend!

Winter Wonderland Style Board

Although we haven’t had too much snow lately (little to none actually), I haven’t had to wear any heavy duty Winter accessories…but what is great about this mild Winter we have been having is it has allowed me to break out the more fashion friendly accessories (as opposed to the heavy duty, built for warmth accessories). This always makes me happy because there is nothing I love more in the Winter time than dressing up in cute headbands, bow gloves and the coziest of scarves.

Today I have compiled some of my favourite Winter accessories into a style board that I am bringing to you from this little shop I found based out of New York called Spring.

Winter Wonderland Style Board - Pearls and Polkadots

All of these brand name accessories were taken from Spring‘s accessory collection (see here). Winter accessories are great and when it’s mild out, you can put fashion above necessity! I consider there to be four main accessories for Winter and I am going to tell you about those now:

Hats

In the freezing cold, wearing a hat is essential, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t look cute doing it! These hats that I picked out are warm, cute and stylish! Not to mention the cool monochrome scheme is perfect for the season!

Gloves

Winter gloves are not my go-to accessory, but when I do wear them, I like to make sure they are good quality. Leather is my first pick when it comes to gloves since they are so warm and comfortable.

Scarves

Warm knits are the best. Whether it is infinity, or a wrap around scarf, scarves are the perfect accessory to pair with your winter coat or a cozy cable knit sweater! My personal favourite is the blanket scarf – they keep you so warm and they are SO in style!

Sunnies

Fortunately the sun does not go away in the Winter season, which is why it is always great to have a casual pair of sunnies in your bag, for when the sun becomes just too much! I love to stick to more neutral frames for the cold season, sticking with that monochrome scheme!

NYE Clutch Essentials!

New Year’s Eve is TONIGHT everyone – can you believe it? It’s amazing how fast each year goes by! Tonight, I will be celebrating with friends out on the town and for going out, I have assembled the perfect NYE clutch! You need to make sure that you are prepared for that fun night out with friends and today, I am going to show you exactly what you should pack in your bag for the big night!

For a night out, you don’t need to bring a lot – but there are a few things that you may want while out past midnight! Some are optional, others are completely necessary!

NYE Clutch Essentials - Pearls and Polkadots

My NYE clutch for 2015!

iPhone (or your phone) – I know, I know – the iPhone 5S is an older model…but the main point is: Make sure you have your phone on NYE! Plain and simple it’s safe, and fun because you will want to take tons of pictures!

Blinged out Bobby Pins – Whether they are blinged out or not, I always make sure I have a couple of pins in my bag. You never know when your hair may need to be pinned back. These pins are the perfect bobby pins for a great NYE night because they add sparkle instantly!

Setting Powder – Rimmel‘s translucent setting powder has been a saving grace for me on many occasions! It minimizes the shine on your face, and is quick to apply, meaning you only need a smidge! When you are amongst a lot of people, sweat may become a problem – but this powder takes that sweaty glow right off your face, so you are looking perfect all night long!

Make up Brush – You need something to apply the setting powder with! This is really the only reason that you would pack a make up brush in your clutch! This is my favourite brush right now by e.l.f. cosmetics. It’s light, fresh looking and cleans really easily!

Matte Lipstick – I have a lipstick obsession right now which falls into two categories: nudes and mattes. This creamy matte, nude lipstick that I am loving right now is by Mabelline and is in the shade “Daringly Nude”. This has been my go-to, daily shade this past month! For the big NYE, you will need to pack your lipstick for touch ups throughout the night!

Magic Wallet – Unfortunately, this is not in stores anymore (which is why I didn’t feature it up above), however this is what I carry my necessary cards in when I go out. It’s simple, small and fits in pretty much any clutch. You will want something to carry your cards in so you don’t lose them!!

BONUS: Portable Phone Charger – This is something that I have been meaning to purchase (but always forget to). There is a great, compact, gold-coloured portable phone charger at Lord & Taylor – perfect for NYE! There is nothing worse than a dead phone (plus it’s not too safe on NYE!) Charge up with this cute gold portable charger!

My clutch is not being sold online, but the one linked up above is very similar and equally as cute!

HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR AND I WILL SEE YOU IN 2016!

(new post in the new year!)

Last Minute Guide for your NYE style!

Wait a moment…is it December 30th already? You betcha! The month has flown by, Christmas has ended (ugh!) and the magical night that is New Year’s Eve is right around the corner – a.k.a. tomorrow. You may be totally prepared (like I am for onceor you may be freaking out on your way to the mall to find that perfect look for your big bash!

Well fear no more – I am here to give you some quick style tips so that you can look (and feel!) dazzling as you enter the big 2-0-1-6! I am going to show you how to put a look together with just five simple steps.

STEP ONE

When I am assembling a look, I begin with the statement piece and style every other item around that. The statement piece could be a necklace, a pair of cute shoes, or a chic dress. On NYE, you will want to make your statement the outfit (dress, skirt/top, etc.)! These lovely ladies below put the focus on their NYE dress…

STEP TWO

Tights or no tights?  I always wear tights when I go out this time of year because it is usually freezing. Tights can be anywhere from nylons (nude colour) to cute fashion tights in navy or black!

I like the unexpected sequins. Would be cute dressed down too.:

Tip: Wearing tights will lengthen the life of your shoes

(less friction from your heel against the material of the skin).

STEP THREE

Shoes, shoes, shoes! Open toe – go for it. Closed toe – go for it. All bets are off! I definitely recommend matching your shoes to your dress. However, if the dress is a crazy colour, in many cases black goes perfectly. The fancier, the better!

STEP FOUR

Add a little bling! I love jewelry as much as the next girl, and I definitely recommend it for NYE! However, it is not a must. Keep in mind, if you have a super sparkly (sequined) dress, you will want to make sure the jewelry doesn’t get lost! I recommend piling on some arm candy, and a snazzy pair of earrings!

STEP FIVE

Keeping it clutch with a matching clutch is the final step of putting your look together! Matching is definitely not necessary, but pulling out like colours in your outfit’s scheme is a great idea! Got gold sequins? Try a bronze toned clutch to soften the sparkle! If you can’t find a suitable colour…just like the shoes…turn to black!
