Happy Launch Day!

I am so excited to present this to everyone!! Until this day, I have been prepping and tweaking and nitpicking my blog so that I could launch it, like I did today. You see, I had a strategy…I wanted to reach a set goal on @mystyyle before I showed it to the world, so to speak. So that is what I’m doing. January has been filled with new and exciting opportunities, which includes Pearls and Polkadots! This is something I am completely diving into and rather excited about…

How did it all begin?

It actually all began with taking photos of my daily outfits. As I started to accumulate more pieces, become more interested in fashion, and take interest in what I was wearing each day, I started taking “outfit photos” (photos that showcase the entire outfit, smile down). I began to post them on my personal IG, until one day I decided…”I should dedicate an entire account to this alone…”. So I did. Soon after that, I gathered a following, and a few people put the idea of starting a blog in my head and VOILA, Pearls and Polkadots was born!

Why ‘Pearls and Polkadots‘?

When I was small, I always admired my Mother’s and Grandmother’s pearls. Pearls are simple, classic and go with pretty much everything. I also LOVE polka dots and a lot of the looks that I was bringing together included polka dots in some way. So why not put pearls together with polka dots? Pearls represent the classic style that I love. Polka dots represent the care free, bubbly person that I am!

Future Plans…

Expressing myself through fashion allows me to show who my true self is. I want to showcase that through Pearls and Polkadots and show you who I am! Writing is a love of mine, and fashion is another love of mine…so together, fashion and writing is what I am dedicated to whole heartedly!

Stripes and Pearls - Pearls and Polkadots  Stripes and Pearls - Pearls and Polkadots

Above is a look I put together this week – very teacher-like, don’t you think? Stripes on stripes – inverse stripes! I could not wait to wear this look to my kindergarten class. I had a lot of little kids pointing out all of the patterns, so it was a great way to teach them the stripe pattern (they are still grasping this concept). There’s my little fashion blurb! Enjoy!!

Have a lovely weekend everyone – and come back soon!

First Day Jitters

How’s it going? I thought I would give you a little life update for today’s post since something BIG is happening! Today, I began my first teaching placement in a kindergarten classroom. What did it feel like? Practically terrifying…walking into a classroom packed full of 32 children. Full of energy, each with their own little personalities.

32 does not seem like a big number…considering my classes in high school had at least 30 kids and my tutorials have that as a minimum! However, you really get a sense of how HUGE that number is when you have to get them all changed into their snow pants for a 15 minute recess…

As terrifying as it seems, I am truly excited. All of these little souls are innocent, sweet, and considerate little humans that I could spend the whole day with. I can’t wait to get to know them each and see their personalities blossom. I truly feel like this is what I am meant to do…help them read, write and count.

So what did I wear?

My First Day in the ABC - Pearls and Polkadots

Sweater: Tommy Hilfiger / Collared Shirt: J.Crew Factory / Statement Necklace: Target

For my first day, I kept it classic and comfortable. Everyone has their own style, and for me that is a blend of the two. Considering my placement is in kindergarten, I wanted to keep it comfortable (you know, something I can crawl around in on the floor!).

I wish I had a full body shot of what I wore, but I’ll describe it anyway. Bright green cable knit sweater accompanied by a collared shirt (classy, right?). I paired it with some tan pants and what one little girl called “princess shoes”…which were actually a shiny pair of flats.

This is honestly my favourite place to be…I hope I can make it to my very own classroom someday!

Sweater Essentials

There are many pieces of clothing that I consider to be my favourite. However, there are few things in my closet that I deem to be essential. Now, these tend to vary between seasons (obviously!), but when it comes to winter…one essential piece happens to be one of my faves: the sweater.

When it comes to sweaters, I have a problem. I love to buy sweaters, and at this point…I have come up with my own “sweater categories” (you know, like people do). What I want to share with you today…is those categories!

The Cable Knit

Classic, cute and warm. You can’t go wrong with that combo, can you? This is my go-to type of sweater and I probably have one in every colour. A good staple to have in your closet is a cream cable knit because it is a neutral. What is great about neutrals is they can be layered with other bright colours…and layers in the winter? Not a terrible idea…

The Animal Motif

Animal motif sweaters consist of any sweater that is based around an animal (simple, right?). Now this can be animal print, or actual graphics of animals on the sweater! I love the idea of both and think styled correctly, can be a killer look.

The Oversized Sweater

Sweater Essentials - Pearls and Polkadots

Oversized sweaters are great, comfy and completely in style! Not only can you cozy down into them while reading a book and sipping a hot cup of tea, you can sport them in a really trendy way. Pairing an oversized sweater with a skirt can be a dressy, trendy look that is great if you want to be in style and casual.

This winter has been, and is still a very cold one, which means my sweater game has really stepped up. What is great though is if you look in the right places, you can find a cute and inexpensive sweater! Sweaters will always be a staple, so stock up (unless if you live somewhere hot…).

As for me? I’m going to cozy up in one of my sweaters and watch reruns of Grey’s on Netflix!

Instagram Roundup: Coldest Week of the Year

This week has probably been the coldest week of the year. Today, with the wind chill, it was -20 degrees (celcius!!). You can’t have your hands out for more than ten seconds or else they’ll numb and freeze. However, it gave me the perfect excuse to pull out my warm sweaters and winter accessories! However, to take my outfit photos, I don’t sport my HUGE Winter parka…however I did have to keep the Winter boots on this week…

I am really obsessed with my new blanket scarf that I got for Christmas these days! It goes with so much of my clothing and can be worn in SO many ways. Any big scarf is warm and perfect for the Winter season (it is also perfect when you don’t feel like wearing jewellery). Sweaters have been my go-to for the cold weather this week! I had a great (cold) week, and I can’t wait to dress through the next week as well!! Bring on more sweaters!

It’s Back to School I Go + New Year’s Resolution!

Today marks the end of my holiday. It is back to school for me and time to hit the books! After a three week long vacation, I packed up all of my clothing and headed back to school. I can’t say it was the happiest occasion in the world…I do enjoy my relaxation time at home and miss my family when I’m at school. However, it feels nice to be back in my own place, with my own space to do whatever I want. It is a different feel from home…can’t say that I don’t miss my puppy though (the photo bomber in the photo below…)

What do I miss most?

I would have to say my closet is one of the things I miss. That sounds superficial, but it is so true! At school, I rent one of eight rooms in a studenet house and my room happens to be the converted dining room. Therefore, there is no closet. Which means no room for anything. Somehow, I manage to get everything stored away…while resorting to interesting ways to store clothing (drawers, shelves, under my bed, under my desk…everywhere).

Anyway, I am excited to get back into my routine and have a great semester!

Obviously, there are the classic New Year’s Resolutions like get good grades and try to maintain a healthier lifestyle, but I have one resolution that is more realistic for the place I am at in my life now. Here is my one resolution for 2-0-1-5:

1. Continue with Pearls and Polkadots.

Pearls and Polkadots hasn’t been launched at this point, but this is definitely something that I want to be successful with. I want to make this my space for expression and creativity! We will have to see where it goes!

Happy New  Year!
