Spring Colours

Even though there is a thick white blanket on the ground, I can just feel Spring right around the corner. At this point, I am pretty tired of the cold weather, the Winter boots, and seeing my cold breath in the air! So I have decided that Spring colours are, from this point on, a must!

Navy, Purple + Turquoise

I began my Spring colour pact this week with purple, turquoise and navy blue. I came across this colour combo when I scrounged up an Old Navy shirt that I hadn’t worn in a long, long time. It is absolutely perfect for Spring! These colours are just bright enough to take the Winter blues away!!

I love these colours together – paired together, your outfit is springy, happy and full of life. Clearly, navy blue is becoming one of my favourite colours. I have yet to assemble a navy-pink look, but Alyson of Sequins and Things has put together a great one! Pinterest brings you to all kinds of inspiration from amazing women who create the best looks.

 Coral + Aqua

This is more of a Summer colour combo, but who says you can’t wear this cute little outfit to Easter lunch? I usually go for coral as the main colour and aqua as the accent, but turning it around makes for a fun Spring outfit as well! What is fun to do is to make the accessories pop, but for this look, I chose to use nude accents in the shoe and clutch so that the pop was in the dress and necklace!

Spring is right around the corner and I can’t wait! There are so many outfit combos to come up with that can show off your springy side and these colours will get you right on track! They sure are helping me get into the Spring mood!

Looking Back: February 2015

Wow, is it March already? It’s crazy how time flies! I am about two days late in posting this look back, but March began on a weekend…so what can you do? This month, I really tried to incorporate my blanket scarf into my outfits. However, it is really a must-have for February as it was freezing. As for other trends this month? Vests continue to be my main go-to. I actually love having the extra layer underneath my parka to keep me nice and toasty! I am really hoping Spring is around the corner! In order to encourage Spring to arrive faster, I have decided to wear bright colours this month (maybe that’s a thing?).

I kept it pretty casual this month – although I love to dress up, it isn’t as fun in the Winter because you must wear warm clothing. That pretty much excludes cute dresses, heels and flats. It’s safe to say that my Sorel boots have become my best friend this past season. So which is my favourite look this month?

My Plaid Blanket Scarf

Shocker!! I am literally addicted to this scarf. I picked it last month, and I am sticking with it this month!! Until this snow clears away…it will be in my top picks (which is totally okay, because it is super cute!). If you don’t believe me…take a look at the photos below that I snapped on a recent family drive through the countryside:

Stripes, stripes, stripes!

Happy Fri-Yay!

Is anyone pumped that it’s the weekend? I can’t wait to get this day through so I can relax this weekend!! It’s going to be great to just put my feet up and not have to think about school (yes!!). I’m even more exciting to dive into the world of printed fabric today with you guys. For today’s favourite print, I am going to talk about stripes and why I love them. There are so many types of looks that you can incorporate stripes and I am going to show you exactly how I wear them…

Stripes on a White Background

Stripes on a white background are great. I have several types of these shirts and they are perfect for a lighter look! This look was inspired by something I saw on PinterestI love this colour palette because it isn’t outrageous, but it includes enough colour so that it isn’t completely boring. Having the tan colour as the base of the look, it adds to the outfit by complimenting the gold accessories. The patterned shirt does a great job of counteracting the other solid pieces in the look.

Stripes on Stripes

This is a unique look – not one that you see very often, but I thought it looked super cute! When it comes to mixing patterns, you need to be careful. There are some patterns that compliment each other, and some patterns that don’t as well. When mixing patterns of teh same family (i.e. floral on floral), you should have some consistency. For this look, I decided to keep consistent with the colour scheme of my pattern. My turtle neck and vest are both striped, but they are inverse in colour scheme!

Colourful Stripes

I tend to stick to neutral tones for striped patterns. But lately, I have decided to mix it up and have been getting more and more colourful! This is a band wagon I have jumped on…but definitely will be added to more looks in the future. Something to consider as well is different striped pieces. Not only can you play with colour, but you can play with the different types of patterned pieces you choose to add to your closet (skirt, blazer, etc.).

3 Key Tips to Purchasing the Perfect Tote!

I have a healthy obsession with bags. I’ll admit it…I am a bag lady. Total bag lady. fashionable bag lady, that is. I take into account several factors when I purchase a new tote. I used to be careless with these types of purchases – I bought what I thought I liked and didn’t really give it any thought. Until one day, I realized that the bags that I was spending my money on were not lasting as long as I wanted them to – they were just the flavour of the week.

Today I am going to give you three tips I use when deciding whether or not to purchase a new bag…

This is probably the most important factor when you are choosing a purse. Wacky, neon, bright colours are GREAT (don’t get me wrong), but they don’t tend to go with everything. Lately, I have been focusing on neutral, soft colours that can easily blend with each look you create. These neutrals don’t just mean black or white – there is a myriad of neutrals that I tend to stick to…white, blush, nude, tan, and black. Of course, if there is a bright coloured tote that you need, I still would say go for it!

Above all, you want to make sure that your bag will last a long time. Purses are not cheap, and since it potentially is something you are using every day, you need to make sure that you buy from a brand that will uphold the every day traffic that a purse gets! There is nothing worse than buying a brand new bag, only to find in a month that the handles are wearing down because you have carried it every day. When I am strictly looking for quality, I go to Kate Spade New York, Ralph Laurenor if you are looking for a less expensive brand, Aldo (I love them!!).

I try to be practical with any purchase that I make, but when it comes to bags…I really don’t follow this as much as I should. Practicality is good to keep in mind though when looking for that perfect tote, because you want to make sure that the bag will serve its purpose for you! Does it have enough room to carry your daily items that you need? Is it too big that you are going to get tired lugging it around? Practicality of a purse is different for every woman because we all have different daily needs! Personally, I go for the medium sized bags because I can carry my laptop around with me (for school). However, when I am working, I like a smaller tote that just has room for a few necessities.

Bags are a weakness for me and as long as they keep coming out with cute designs, I will keep handing over my money! Hopefully these tips will stick out in your mind next time you head to the mall to look for that special tote.

‘Boot’iful Winter Boots that you will love!

Any fashionista loves a good pair of boots! Finding a great pair of boots is one of the greatest feelings to experience if you are obsessed with buying shoes like I am. However, sometimes shoes and boots are not that practical. In Canada, it is a tad unrealistic to wear your nice (non-warm) boots in the mountains of snow that we get. You will most likely see me in my warm and cozy Winter boots. I learnt how to wear over the knee boots a long while back, and I’ve been pulling it off ever since. That doesn’t mean you can’t look cute in the snow…

Winter boots can be really ugly and to be honest, up until this year, I hated my Winter boots! However, that was before I got myself a good pair of Sorel boots. Although warmth is the number one factor when shopping for your Winter footwear, you should take into account that you will be wearing them every day – so make em’ cute as well!

Current Winter Boots

My go-to boot retailers are Sorel and L.L. Bean! They focus on making your boots look great and the warmth is unbelievable! There are so many pairs of boots out there that I would love to own! If only I had all the money in the world (wouldn’t that make life so much easier?)
