Shimmering into 2018!

Here we are, about to close another interesting, exciting and fun year! So much has changed in my life since one year ago today, and I am happy to say all for the better. I can’t say that I accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish in 2017…but that is what a new year is for. Accomplishing your goals, and setting even bigger ones!

Evening Dress: c/o Pink Blush / Shoes: Aldo

New Years Eve is such a magical…holiday? (I don’t know if I consider it an official holiday or not). It is a time to reflect and look back upon all of the amazing moments you had with friends, family and individually. It’s also a time to look your best, whether you’re going out on the town or staying in by the fire. I want to first say that this look is completely outside of my comfort zone. Sexy, sequin gowns aren’t my usual (even on NYE!), but when I saw this come out in their boutique…I just had to have it. It was love at first sight!

It is such a breath taking piece and looks exactly like it does on their online boutique! The sequins capture the light perfectly, so wherever you are, you are the star of the show. I like to throw third pieces on a lot of my looks to jazz them up a bit, but that is the great thing about this gown…you don’t need to!  In fact, I think it may be overkill if you did. I styled this independently because it really is just stunning on its own.

When I set out to find a look for NYE 2017, I thought of Pink Blush immediately. They always have showstopping picks that completely liven up your wardrobe. This dress is one of many, many sequin pieces they have right now in a variety of styles. Aren’t a fan of the jaw dropping, attention grabbing gown? You can go for a lightly accented sequin blouse or sweater. Those are always fun as well!

The possibilities are endless. Now, because this year is absolutely frigid cold (-30! Yikes!), I would opt for a faux fur wrap or some kind of shimmery wrap for my shoulders. You can’t ignore cold warnings and you don’t want to be shivering on a night you look so fabulous! Just keep in mind, with a dress like this, you don’t want to take any attention away from those shining sequins!

Bundle up and keep warm this NYE! See you in 2018!

Christmas Fun in the Snow

There is snow on the ground, the Christmas tree is lit, and my kitchen smells of baked chocolate chip cookies! It feels as if this season, Christmas has gone on forever. I say that with happiness because this is one of my favourite holidays of the year!! With the holidays being so cheery, I like to make sure my outfits are right in line with the holiday theme!

Sweater Coat: Dex / Sweater: J.Crew Factory / Leggings: c/o Du North Designs Ltd. / Boots: L.L. Bean / Camp Socks: Roots

Today, I am sporting these super fun reindeer leggings! All of my fun printed leggings come from Du North Designs Ltd.a Canadian company based out of Alberta. I can always count on Du North to provide me cozy leggings to lounge around in (and for the holiday season…that’s exactly what I need!)

Cozy style is my go-to, especially when running errands, baking cookies and preparing for such a busy holiday such as Christmas. If I could have one pair of Christmas leggings for every single day of the month…I would. However, these are my favourite pair by far!!

I decided to keep a comfortable vibe with this look and pair the black fair isle pattern with my red buffalo check sweater. I got this sweater for my birthday after many, many hints to my Mom and Dad (hints that weren’t exactly needed, I found out later…) and it is the best sweater I own. Now, many people don’t seem to think you can wear a pattern on top of another pattern…I am not one of those people.

Pattern mixing is a trend that hasn’t gone out of style. At least, not in my closet. I love to mix and match, trying new combinations to see what I like best! These patterns go great together because they aren’t overwhelmingly big patterns. Buffalo check plaid is a chunky pattern. Fair aisle is more of a graphic pattern and really tight knit. There really is no rhyme or reason to pattern mixing…you just have to go with what you feel.

There are so many fun patterns to look through at Du North Designs! I suggest you take a look through their online catalog and find some for yourself – you definitely will not regret it (seriously, they are the most comfortable pairs of leggings I own).

Merry Christmas!

My Magical Stay at the Hazelton Hotel

My Magical Stay at the Hazelton Hotel - Pearls and Polkadots

One of my recent goals in life has been to take my blogging to the next level and expand into exploring different lifestyles and areas of interest. One of those areas is traveling. I haven’t had many opportunities to travel since I have been so focused on school for the past six years. However, as I approach the closing of that chapter, I am excited to explore new opportunities and check a few things off of my bucket list!!

I come from a Toronto born family and growing up, I often visited my relatives in Toronto. However, I have never had the experience of a staycation in Toronto where I can really explore the city. Which brings me to today’s post…

Last weekend, I packed my bags and headed to Yorkville Village, where I met Annie from Fashion and Beauty Inc. to endure a one night stay at the Hazelton Hotel. The Hazelton Hotel is a posh, upscale, boutique hotel that has all of the amenities for a five star stay! Upon arrival, my bags were taken to the room and I was given a tour of our executive suite. My Magical Stay at the Hazelton Hotel - Pearls and Polkadots

The executive suite is absolutely stunning. With it’s cutting edge, modern interior, you feel relaxed and right at home at the same time. Annie arrived shortly after me, and that’s when all of the fun began! We chatted, looked at menu after menu before quickly deciding that room service for dinner and late night snacks was definitely the primary option for our stay!

I should mention that the Hazelton does have a fabulous restaurant (ONE restaurant) in the lobby of the hotel. However, for us, the perfect night included cozying up in PJ’s, turning on some reality television and indulging on gourmet room service (but I will get into that soon…).

After a couple of hours of catching up, exploring the hotel and relaxing in our room, we decided it was time to place an order for dinner. It took us a while to decide exactly what our preferences were for our very first meal. However, we settled on two amazing mains and appetizers to accompany.

I was pretty set on steak, as this is always my go-to when I need a satisfying and filling meal. I had the five ounce, which was plenty. For my appetizer, I had the lobster spoons (which honestly, were a meal in and of itself). Can you believe I have never had lobster before? Obviously I loved it and could have had another platter all to myself!

After dinner, we lounged some more and caught up with each other. Annie and I only get to see each other a few times a year. This is primarily because we go to school in completely opposite parts of the province, so after roughly 5 months of not actually seeing each other…there was so much to catch up on!!

Later that night, it was time to test some dessert. Dessert is usually my favourite part of the meal. We went a little crazy and split three desserts.

The Boston Cream donuts were absolutely magical. Magical pieces sent from heaven above, I think. The sweet custard filling, and toppings of chocolate icing and toffee. As soon as we finished them, I instantly craved more!

To add to the dessert fun, we also drooled over the Yogurt Pana Cota, which was delicious. Orange sorbet, topped with poppy seed meringue and some zest to make the flavour pop, it was the perfect late night satisfaction!

Finally, Annie and I indulged on a multitude of fruit and sorbet, tasting all of the flavours on the menu: Margarita, Sour Cherry, and Orange. I don’t normally choose sorbet, but it was just the tangy flavour I needed!

After a long evening of talking and enjoying multiple room service spreads, it was time to hit the sheets. And did we ever. The bed was turned down just to our liking and was completely prepared for us to sleep at any time. I slept like a baby (which was well needed, since we had a long day of shopping beginning in the morning).

Waking up, I felt completely well rested, and honestly wished I had slept a little bit longer. We quickly got ready, and went to explore the pool! It was the most serene pool I have ever been in. The calming music, the warmth of the air, and the luxurious area, I felt right at home! We spent majority of our morning here, before we headed back to the room for breakfast.

Since Annie and I are both into well prepared dishes and tasty food, we were anticipating an amazing breakfast. Boy, did we ever get it! I had the Cinnamon French Toast and Annie had the Eggs Benedict. Both extremely filling and satisfying.

We also (to our pleasure) made sure to order some pastries from the bakery so that we could really experience the full breakfast experience. Did we ever…well, I’ll let the pictures tell the story from here on…

It’s safe to say that our in-room breakfast was my absolute favourite part of our stay at the Hazelton. From there, we packed our bags and headed out to Yorkville Village to explore. Being that Annie is from Toronto, she is pretty familiar with Yorkville Village, so she took me around to some of our favourites (Kate Spade, Tiffany’s, etc.).

My time spent at the Hazelton was completely and totally magical, and I felt pampered beyond belief. I hope to stay again soon, and definitely recommend this little boutique hotel to anyone who is looking to visit!

You will feel like royalty in this posh, upscale hotel.

ALPINE VIBES

As we near the end of December, I look back at this wonderful 2017, and think…wow. I have had so many great experiences, and met so many amazing people! I have also found some killer pieces to add to my closet! Bright colours, fun patterns, and cozy everything. However, where you have bright colours and fun patterns…there is always a difficult piece to style…

Sweater: Joe Fresh / Vest: Winners / Leggings: c/0 Du North Designs Ltd. / Boots: American Eagle / Coat: Roots

Du North Designs has become my regular hub for cute and fun leggings. These patterned leggings that I am sporting today are probably the most out there thing that I own (at least, for now). I say that with the utmost sincerity, because this pattern is eye-catching for sure. Most people would take a look and think…where, how, why? I think they are so much fun and such a change of pace. So here is how I made these wild leggings fit with my regular wardrobe…

When I first looked at them, I didn’t know how I would style them for a styled look. They are super cozy, and perfect for lounging around the house, running errands, or even sitting in classes all day long. However, I wanted to make them POP! After countless minutes of running around my room, going through everything I own…I finally looked at the colours.

There are so many colours in these leggings, but there are some super dominant colours as well. Blues, maroon, a bit of orange. So I finally thought, sweater on top (because we already have cozy style going), and maybe a third piece on top of that! Perfect – grey cozy sweater, and then I had this maroon vest to pair on top. I really like this combo because the top half of the look doesn’t take away from the fun pattern in the leggings, but it also doesn’t clash with it either!

Now, due to the unbelievably cold weather, I didn’t make it through shooting this outfit without some warmth from my big winter coat. However, after I got back into my cozy bed to edit, I realized…the winter jacket takes the look to the next level! Immediately I got ski slope, alpine vibes and wished I had photographed more shots styled with the coat.

It really doesn’t take much to make a crazy piece look great. Pull out the colours and make sure you keep that difficult item as the main focus of the styled look. You may get an ultra cute, ski bunny look without even knowing it (haha or maybe that’s just me!)

Holiday Off-Duty

The holidays are a time of getting together, memory making and celebration. The Christmas season is among one of my favourite times of the year. The lights, the treats, and the cozy clothing – all very important details when December begins! When the snow starts to fall, it’s time to pull out the over-sized sweaters and comfortable jeans!

Top: c/o Pink Blush / Jeans: Garage / Cabin Socks: Roots / Boots: Blundstone / Hat: Joe Fresh

I am in my last week of school for 2017! I can’t believe how quickly this degree has flown by. This is one of the busiest times of the year – not only because of all of the holiday shopping, baking and gift wrapping there is to do. It is also my birthday month, as well as (for this year, at least) time to be applying to jobs. Shortly, I will be a certified elementary school teacher…four months to be exact.

With all of the crazy-ness that December brings, I like to have my go-to casual looks. I like to look my best at all times, but comfort is my number one – especially when that white blanket covers the ground. An ideal characteristic of a cozy outfit is to feel like you are still in your PJ’s – even when you leave the house! Which brings me to this fabulous off-duty look I put together last week…

I love over-sized things. An over-sized sweater is a comfort-obsessed women’s gift to tackling her daily routine. I stumbled across this perfect piece online at Pink Blush. I love this boutique – especially for comfy wear. This perfect soft knit is my key to keeping it comfortable when I’m sitting in class, or even doing school work at home.

To keep the cozy going, I paired the soft knit with my favourite pair of boyfriend jeans. The  distressing adds a bit of texture to the look, and overall gives the look a cute and casual vibe. Boyfriend jeans are the most comfortable jeans ever – they are a bit slouchy, but they feel like sweatpants. I topped the look off with a cream knit beanie – mainly because I was on second day hair, but also because it was a bit chilly that day.

A look like this is extremely simple to put together. I sport this look consistently by changing out the jeans for leggings, or the soft knit with a cable knit sweater. Either way, the cozy factor wins every time. You really can’t go wrong this holiday season, with this off-duty look.

What’s your go-to cozy look this season?
