ALPINE VIBES

As we near the end of December, I look back at this wonderful 2017, and think…wow. I have had so many great experiences, and met so many amazing people! I have also found some killer pieces to add to my closet! Bright colours, fun patterns, and cozy everything. However, where you have bright colours and fun patterns…there is always a difficult piece to style…

Sweater: Joe Fresh / Vest: Winners / Leggings: c/0 Du North Designs Ltd. / Boots: American Eagle / Coat: Roots

Du North Designs has become my regular hub for cute and fun leggings. These patterned leggings that I am sporting today are probably the most out there thing that I own (at least, for now). I say that with the utmost sincerity, because this pattern is eye-catching for sure. Most people would take a look and think…where, how, why? I think they are so much fun and such a change of pace. So here is how I made these wild leggings fit with my regular wardrobe…

When I first looked at them, I didn’t know how I would style them for a styled look. They are super cozy, and perfect for lounging around the house, running errands, or even sitting in classes all day long. However, I wanted to make them POP! After countless minutes of running around my room, going through everything I own…I finally looked at the colours.

There are so many colours in these leggings, but there are some super dominant colours as well. Blues, maroon, a bit of orange. So I finally thought, sweater on top (because we already have cozy style going), and maybe a third piece on top of that! Perfect – grey cozy sweater, and then I had this maroon vest to pair on top. I really like this combo because the top half of the look doesn’t take away from the fun pattern in the leggings, but it also doesn’t clash with it either!

Now, due to the unbelievably cold weather, I didn’t make it through shooting this outfit without some warmth from my big winter coat. However, after I got back into my cozy bed to edit, I realized…the winter jacket takes the look to the next level! Immediately I got ski slope, alpine vibes and wished I had photographed more shots styled with the coat.

It really doesn’t take much to make a crazy piece look great. Pull out the colours and make sure you keep that difficult item as the main focus of the styled look. You may get an ultra cute, ski bunny look without even knowing it (haha or maybe that’s just me!)

All of my fun leggings come from Du North Designs Ltd.Start styling with them today and take your closet to the fun patterned level!

Holiday Off-Duty

The holidays are a time of getting together, memory making and celebration. The Christmas season is among one of my favourite times of the year. The lights, the treats, and the cozy clothing – all very important details when December begins! When the snow starts to fall, it’s time to pull out the over-sized sweaters and comfortable jeans!

Top: c/o Pink Blush / Jeans: Garage / Cabin Socks: Roots / Boots: Blundstone / Hat: Joe Fresh

I am in my last week of school for 2017! I can’t believe how quickly this degree has flown by. This is one of the busiest times of the year – not only because of all of the holiday shopping, baking and gift wrapping there is to do. It is also my birthday month, as well as (for this year, at least) time to be applying to jobs. Shortly, I will be a certified elementary school teacher…four months to be exact.

With all of the crazy-ness that December brings, I like to have my go-to casual looks. I like to look my best at all times, but comfort is my number one – especially when that white blanket covers the ground. An ideal characteristic of a cozy outfit is to feel like you are still in your PJ’s – even when you leave the house! Which brings me to this fabulous off-duty look I put together last week…

I love over-sized things. An over-sized sweater is a comfort-obsessed women’s gift to tackling her daily routine. I stumbled across this perfect piece online at Pink Blush. I love this boutique – especially for comfy wear. This perfect soft knit is my key to keeping it comfortable when I’m sitting in class, or even doing school work at home.

To keep the cozy going, I paired the soft knit with my favourite pair of boyfriend jeans. The  distressing adds a bit of texture to the look, and overall gives the look a cute and casual vibe. Boyfriend jeans are the most comfortable jeans ever – they are a bit slouchy, but they feel like sweatpants. I topped the look off with a cream knit beanie – mainly because I was on second day hair, but also because it was a bit chilly that day.

A look like this is extremely simple to put together. I sport this look consistently by changing out the jeans for leggings, or the soft knit with a cable knit sweater. Either way, the cozy factor wins every time. You really can’t go wrong this holiday season, with this off-duty look.

What’s your go-to cozy look this season?

Wrapping Up in Olive Green

The Christmas season is upon us! You wouldn’t be able to tell from my Instagram, but I am so into Christmas right now!! Christmas is always a bit different when living away at school. You can’t really get into decorating, and baking and all of the other fun Christmas festivities. Why? There are so many other things that take priority! For me, it has been my third practicum in Grade 1!!

Dress: c/o Zaful / Boots: Guess / Necklace: Icing

My days have been filled with teaching my students how to write, marking upon marking, and pure exhaustion. I have loved every minute of it. I have one more practicum in the new year and then I am a certified teacher! Wow! I can’t believe two years is going by so quickly. The past month has been packed full of craziness, but now that it is all coming to a close, I am ready to jump into the Christmas season with two feet!

Baking, going to the Toronto Christmas market, getting my Christmas shopping done – all activities that I will be quickly getting into. It’s one of my favourite times of year (being that I looove the holidays), but the only thing I am currently missing? Snow. I WISH there was a thick white blanket on the earth right now…the weather has just been too warm (and when I say warm…I mean 0 degrees).

One bonus to not having foot after foot of snow? I get to sport this cute little number still. Taking pieces and transitioning them to different seasons is one of my favourite things to do. I decided to style this wrap dress from Zaful on its own. If it were super duper cold, I would layer with tights, and maybe a faux fur vest. However, it’s so cute, I didn’t want to cover it up in layers.

This dress is so comfortable and it’s definitely an easy piece to style. The only thing I wish I had done, was ordered one size up. The fit is good, but I like things to be a little bigger – more room to move. This dress is a little short with the cut at the front. I will probably wear it with tights from now on (partly because of the weather, also because it is short).

There are so many cute pieces on Zaful right now, it’s hard containing myself!!

Cheers to the Christmas season approaching!

Winter Transition

I would like to say that I am happy that fall is over, because Christmas is right around the corner. However, I am not quite ready to say farewell to my favourite season. We had our first snow fall on Friday, but the snow didn’t stick around. It melted within the same day, and it was back to wet leaves, clearly the end of my beloved fall season. There are no more leaves on the trees, and no snow on the ground…winter transition.

Coat: Fairweather / Top: c/o Zaful / Pants: GAP / Boots: Blundstone

I have been up to my ears in school lately, as I just started my third placement in a Grade 1 classroom – teaching, planning and all of that fun stuff! It’s such a fun end to the first semester, but it makes me realize how quickly this year is passing me by. I mean, Christmas is literally right around the corner!!

For this very long winter transition, it is best to stick to neutrals. I would love to start wearing my Christmas sweaters with snowflake themes, and cozy reindeer patterns…but it just doesn’t feel right without snow. Besides, snow goes best with those types of looks. So, I keep it neutral, and this look is such a styled neutral look.

I love playing with textures, and this textured suede coat is one of my favourites. This beautiful camel-caramel colour goes well with a lot of neutral tones, but what I love doing best is pairing it with a neutral pattern. That’s where this top comes in as the perfect piece to pair with. When I saw this top, I almost instantly added it to my cart. Zaful has come out with such a fashion forward and practical new collection, this top being part of it. It is such a perfect piece and even better, it has a little flare in the tie up side.

Obviously, there are many ways you could dress this top up, but I like it best with a casual look like this one. You could easily switch out the classic black pants with a pair of jeans. Or you could switch the boots out for heels. It depends on how dressed up you want to be. Personally, I live in my black boots (you can get pretty tired of chasing around Grade 1’s in heels).

When you have a neutral top like this featuring a little pattern, the possibilities are endless!

Cheers!

Pops of Colour

There are a number of things I love about fashion. How it truly expresses your personality. The way pieces fit perfectly together. The way trends take over the fashion universe and how everyone embraces a trend in a unique way. All of these little details are the reasons fashion and clothing design warm my heart.

Dress: c/o Du North Designs Ltd. / Cardigan: H&M / Boots: Just Fab / Scarf: White Feather

So why am I going on and on about my love for fashion? Well, I see this piece I am styling today as one of my fashion “risks”. You may be thinking why. Why is a simple, mustard yellow shift dress taking a risk? Well, for one, the colour, the cut, and the style – not really my usual go-to.

However, what I love most about this dress is the pop it presents in a look. How it catches peoples’ eye when you are walking down the street. You can dress it up with another fun colour (hot pink, I would suggest). Or you can keep it casual with an oversized cardigan and warm blanket scarf (like I did here).

This pocket dress from Du North was super simple to style. For a cozy fall look (because my main style quality this season has been cozy), throw on this shift dress, a comfortable blanket scarf to keep you warm and of course a long, dark cardigan. You really don’t need a third piece for this ensemble to look great, but a third piece is always a good idea. I particularly picked a blanket scarf that followed an orange-yellow colour scheme. This draws the bright colour out, but also balances out the bright yellow.

Cheers!
