Pops of Colour

There are a number of things I love about fashion. How it truly expresses your personality. The way pieces fit perfectly together. The way trends take over the fashion universe and how everyone embraces a trend in a unique way. All of these little details are the reasons fashion and clothing design warm my heart.

Dress: c/o Du North Designs Ltd. / Cardigan: H&M / Boots: Just Fab / Scarf: White Feather

So why am I going on and on about my love for fashion? Well, I see this piece I am styling today as one of my fashion “risks”. You may be thinking why. Why is a simple, mustard yellow shift dress taking a risk? Well, for one, the colour, the cut, and the style – not really my usual go-to.

However, what I love most about this dress is the pop it presents in a look. How it catches peoples’ eye when you are walking down the street. You can dress it up with another fun colour (hot pink, I would suggest). Or you can keep it casual with an oversized cardigan and warm blanket scarf (like I did here).

This pocket dress from Du North was super simple to style. For a cozy fall look (because my main style quality this season has been cozy), throw on this shift dress, a comfortable blanket scarf to keep you warm and of course a long, dark cardigan. You really don’t need a third piece for this ensemble to look great, but a third piece is always a good idea. I particularly picked a blanket scarf that followed an orange-yellow colour scheme. This draws the bright colour out, but also balances out the bright yellow.

Cheers!

Camo Obsession

It is finally cool and crisp outside. We have said good bye to the sweltering weather, and hello to crunching leaves, seeing your breath in the cool air, and brisk fall mornings. I am pretty much jumping up and down, because fall is my favourite season, and that also means Christmas is right around the corner (yay!!).

Dress: c/o Zaful / Cardigan: Zaful / Boots: Just Fab

There are many trends that I like to embrace. However, the trend of camouflage is probably my favourite one. I could have camo everything, if I could…and I almost do. New to my camo style family is my short sleevedZaful camouflage dress. It was the perfect number to sport out on a cool, fall walk.

Now, I recognize that wearing the dress on it’s own may not provide quite the amount of warmth you need on a typical fall day. That is why I paired it with a thick and cozy cardigan (also from Zaful), some warm high-knee socks and my riding boots over top. You could easily add some form of tights underneath the dress if the temperatures were super low.

Camouflage is such a casual print to incorporate into your style. The hues of green combined together to make this simple print really add a lot of character to your look. You can add this print into your look in something as simple as a ball cap. It’s cute, it’s easy and affordable (considering camo is all over the place right now).

It’s easy to get a cute and simple look – just look to Zaful!

PICKING SOME APPLES

I’m kind of a fall fanatic, if you haven’t noticed. I love the smell of the crisp air when you walk out the door. I love watching the colours turn to golden yellows and deep hues of orange. However, one of the best things about the cool season is the activities. A few weeks ago, I pulled up my rubber boots and went on a mission to find the perfect apple. Picking some Apples - Pearls and Polkadots

Top: c/o PinkBlush / Jeans: Old Navy / Boots: Hunter

This autumn has been incredibly warm, so when I decided to go on my apple hunt, I didn’t have to consider too many layers. The day was brisk, with warm sunshine and just a hint of rain/wind. In my opinion, that is the perfect day to pick some apples, and then go cozy up by a fire with some apple crisp. I opted for a cozy, over-sized ivory knit top by PinkBlush.

Cozy has been pretty much my category of style for the entire season. It makes sense, right? I mean, when it starts to get chilly, it’s natural to want to curl up and not venture outside. However, when you have a cozy cute look on, you get that comfy feel and still look awesome.

It doesn’t take much (effort or cost) to put together a cute and comfortable look. Find your comfy sweater or knit shirt, and pair it with some jeans. Adding a pop of colour in your shoe (or boot) – especially if your sweater is a neutral shade – is always a good idea. I went with my red rain boots to really make this cozy look come alive.

Lastly, I added my over-sized denim jacket on top. It wasn’t initially going to be part of this apple picking ensemble, but I thought…better to have another layer just in case. Also, who doesn’t love a good ole’ Canadian tuxedo once in a while, right?

Happy Fall!

Keeping Cozy in Paisley Trim

It’s kind of bizarre that only three weeks ago, I sat here in front of my computer, shivering while wrapped in a blanket with a hot cup of tea sitting beside me. It was incredibly cold, and I was complaining and wishing for summer to return. Well…be careful what you wish for. It is probably the hottest it has been all summer – so hot that it was a must that I jump in the river to cool off yesterday (fact!). Nevertheless, I am here today bringing you a cute fall look. Hopefully I will get to wear it without sweating, in the next week or so!

Shirt: c/o Pink Blush / Leggings: Dynamite / Boots: Blundstone

Although I was hoping the hot weather would come back, I am kind of disappointed that fall hasn’t arrived yet! Fall is my favourite season, mainly because of all of my fall outfits. I need sweaters, cozy clothing, denim on denim and, well, more sweaters. All accompanied by a good ole’ Pumpkin Spiced Latte (I’m basic, I know!).

Cozy pieces are a staple for the fall season. However, I like my cozy pieces to look good as well and reflect my personal style. One of my favourite things to sport is fun and boisterous patterns. Patterns can be loud and overwhelming sometimes. So if you don’t want to go full out pattern head to toe, adding it through a certain detail of an item, makes for a good look.

I ordered this top from Pink Blush. Pink Blush has always given me the most comfortable and on trend pieces out there. I picked this knit blend top primarily because of the tone of grey, but also for the cute navy paisley detailed trim around the hem. This breaks my look up, and by pairing it with textured leather leggings, it makes for a cute, edgy and comfortable ensemble!

I almost always go a size up with Pink Blush. You may think I do this because sizing runs small, however sizing is very true to fit. I like these tops to be a tad over-sized and cozy as opposed to tight and tailored (that’s just me!).  You could easily pair this top with jeans and a third piece (such as a pea coat or overcoat for the cooler fall season).

Keep cozy this fall with Pink Blush!

Suede and Lace

This past week was probably the coldest I have felt in a looong time. It’s almost like the calendar turned September 1 and summer took off forever. However, I woke up this morning to a warm, sunny day and I am delighted. I am confident that we don’t have to kiss summer good bye for good just yet!

Romper: c/o Du North Designs / Booties: Ralph Lauren / Jacket: Pink Blush

One of my favourite pieces to sport in the summer is the romper. Rompers are so easily to style, because similar to dresses, you don’t need much to make them look perfect! I am often rocking them with a third piece in the form of a jacket, cardigan, or open shirt for fun. However, the third piece is not an absolute must!

For this look, I went for a cool, dressed up vibe. This romper from Du North Designs is a casual, but dressy piece that is great for the transition between summer and fall. This is why I have paired it with warm brown tones in the suede jacket and leather booties. Although I pretty much live my life in flip flops, I like to sport the casual heel once and a while. Hence, the cognac coloured booties.

Fall is a great time to play with cool colours. In the summertime, it is all about the brights and the bolds. However, when we move into the fall season, that is when we start to see the cooler and darker tones come out (navy, maroon, brown tones, etc.). I love to play with fall tones, and navy/cognac is one of my favourite pairings.

When this romper came in the mail, I jumped for joy. Not only because I loved it, but I knew that I could take it through the early fall season and style it for much longer than other summer rompers. I also love it because of the lace detail – so precious and delicate (I’m a lace lover!).

So basically what I am saying is even though summer is coming to a close for the year, don’t fret! Hold off on moving your rompers to the back of your closet and take another glance. Transition them to your fall wardrobe and keep on styling!

Don’t say good bye to your rompers just yet!!
