Planning the Perfect Oscar Watching Night

The Oscars are right around the corner, and if you are a fanatic like me, you’ll want to be prepared come Sunday night!! Whether you are DVR’ing it for later, or hosting all your gal pals for a fun night of red carpet watching, you will want all of these necessities come Oscar-watching time! I’ve put together a little list of what you need this Sunday night in order to maximize the fun!

It’s the end of the weekend, and all the indulgences are going to stop come Monday morning, so why not ring in the end of the weekend with some awesome pig-out-worthy food!? My go-tos for watching movies and awards shows are below (hint hint: popcorn is a must).

The best part about staying in and watching the Oscars from the comfort of your own home is you can get cozy! This includes sweatpants or pajamas, slipper socks, messy bun, a big fuzzy blanket – whatever you need to be at your most comfortable! The best kinds of nights are ones where you can relax, put your feet up, and criticize all the red carpet looks!

This is not super essential, but definitely comes in handy when watching the Oscars and staying in tune with what’s going on! Of course, you can always go to the Oscars Nominees page to grab a list of all the categories and nominees, but I find that looking for some fun printables are a great way to engage with your girlfriends, or even just keep tabs yourself!

With those three key things, you will have a GREAT time watching the Oscars! It’s always fun to gather together and watch with your girlfriends, but I’ve spent years watching with family, and even by myself when I don’t have time to watch live! However, it is a night to starwatch, pig out and have fun!!

Stay tuned tomorrow for a printable surprise…Oscar related of course!

My Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is pretty much the theme of February (well, at least to me it is!) and since the lovey dovey day fell on a Sunday this year, I got to spend some quality time with family and my puppy dog – only the best a gal could ask for! Ever since I was little, I have spent this joyous day with family and along the way, we have created few traditions! Today, I am going to share with you some of those traditions and how I spent this love-filled day!

My Valentine's Day - Pearls and Polkadots

Growing up, my Dad always bought my Mom flowers (usually roses) for Valentine’s Day, as any loving husband does. When my sister and I got to a certain age, my Dad started to include us in the mix by getting us each a small bouquet of flowers on Valentine’s Day. Not that he ever needed to do that in order to show us how much he loved us, but it brightens our faces every time we wake up on the 14th of February! Thanks Daddy!

V-Day Drive

What is the best way to spend quality time with the family? Why not a family drive through the country, ending with a little stop into our rental house. This is not apart of our V-Day tradition, but it is something that we thought would be really fun! Listening to music, grabbing lunch on the way and just being with one another made the day what it was (perfect!). It was a little chilly (-30 degrees, actually…), but still a great time spent!

Warming up with a Molten Chocolate Latte!

I do looove my Starbucks…so that was a necessary stop on our drive! All week I have been waiting to try the Molten Chocolate Latte for Valentine’s Day, so…that’s exactly what I did! I may have just started an addiction since it was SO UNBELIEVABLY GREAT! Yum, yum!

Treats for all!

This is one of my favourite traditions. Valentine’s Day has always been a day to show love and appreciation for everyone in our tight little unit! My Mom and Dad always make it a special day for my sister and I and whoever is in our lives at the time. I always look forward to candy hearts, big chocolate bars, and yes, even Frozen jelly beans (my favourite!!).

My Valentine's Day - Pearls and Polkadots

I hope everyone had an amazing day with all of their special someones and loved ones! Everybody deserves somebody to love and if you look out there, there is always someone smiling back at you returning your love. Whether it is your Mom, dog, hamster, or significant other…love fills the world every day!

The Galentine’s Day Essential Guide!

Hey gals! February 14th can be a tough day for some people (especially those who haven’t found that special someone) and more or less, NOBODY should be feeling down on this marvelous day created on the basis of love, hugs and kisses! Fear no more, because I am a single gal like many and I am going to tell you some of my favourite ways to celebrate this Galentine’s Day!

The Galentine's Day Essential Guide! - Pearls and Polkadots

There are sooo many reasons that I could list in order to highlight the benefits of being single, but why would I do that when I can give you a list of AWESOME activities to make you love yourself and let the fact that all your friends are on romantic dates fade away!? This is a day to be cheerful and celebrate those you love, and most importantly YOURSELF!

Rom-Com Movie Marathon (featuring your body pillow)

Have you got yourself a body pillow? If you don’t, you should run over to Costco and pick one up because it will honestly change your life. One of my favourite Galentine’s Day traditions is a rom-com movie marathon! Yes, you are watching people fall in love while you are pigging out on popcorn and chocolate…but almost always, the leading male is nothing less than attractive beyond belief…so that’s a MAJOR Galentine’s Day plus!!

Here are my oh-so favourite Galentine’s Day classics:

Round up your Gal’s

There is nothing better than showing love to your best gals! Instead of holing up in your room, go out and have some fun! There is nothing better than a night full of fun, dancing and belting out lyrics to your favourite song at the top of your lungs! Better yet, if you don’t feel like hitting the town, you can always go for a chill dinner (but beware, reservations will need to be made).

Send yourself Flowers

Before you scoff at this idea…try it. It’s pretty satisfying. There is nothing wrong with either sending yourself, or going to the store to grab some pretty flowers for your home office or bedroom even! Flowers brighten everyone’s day, and trust me, looking at whichever is your favourite flower is a pick-me-up in any situation! (Fun Fact: My favourite flower is the pink rose).

Treat yourself

Whether it’s allowing yourself that marvelous “cheat day” or splurging on the latest Kate Spade handbag (we all have that one in mind), you deserve to show yourself how much you appreciate…well, yourself! There’s nothing more #girlboss than celebrating the one and only…you! I will be eating only the finest Lindor chocolates, kicking back thinking about my lovely reading break!

Will you accept this rose?

No matter how you spend it, at the end of the day…it’s just another day of the week! Like I said before, nobody should be feeling blue on such a pink day! Kiss your dog, grab a box of chocolates and turn on a Channing Tatum flick (sounds like a great night to me!).

Happy Galentine’s Day, my girl bosses!

Off to the Ball

Every year, my school holds this grande ball to raise money for a charity of their choice. Thousands of people dress up in fancy dresses, bow ties and high heels to dance, eat and raise money for a great cause! My friends and I began going last year and we decided to continue the fun again this year, on Friday night! It was so much fun and we had a GREAT time!

One of many selfies that night…

We began getting ready around 4PM and all got together around 5:30PM – ready to conquer this ball like nobody’s business! This year’s theme was ‘A Masked Affair’, so we took that theme and ran with it – masks, sultry looks, the whole nine yards! I think taking pictures with my ladies was my favourite part…when you have such a great core group of friends, it’s an amazing feeling!

My Mom found my dress (thrifted), and I couldn’t be more obsessed with it. It’s straight out of the 90’s and so when i got all dolled up and slipped it on, my friends and I came to the realization that it looks like something from Phoebe of F.R.I.E.N.D.S closet…and that’s when I fastened the black velvet choker around my neck (to complete the 90’s get-up, of course).

It was a fun night, and we raised tons of money! It’s a little sad to realize that this was the last ball of university since we are all graduating this year, but it was a night to remember, and that’s all that matters!

My Monday Glow Routine

Since being apart of the amazing blogging community, I have been able to connect with so many different types of bloggers. The community that you get welcomed into when you start up your blog is overwhelmingly amazing and I can’t say enough great things about it! After all, we all are here to support and motivate each other to produce great content, keep our blogs alive and strive to reach our goals! That very community led me to this opportunity that I am going to tell you about today…

My Monday Glow Routine - Pearls and Polkadots

What is Monday Glow?

Monday Glow is a one-day eating plan that is made to make you glow all through Monday. We can get a little crazy on the weekends with parties, entertainment…or even simply getting extra-buttery popcorn at the movie theatre! In fact, the weekends are when I indulge without thinking the most (because who doesn’t want to eat ice cream for dinner while watching Magic Mike XXL?).

My Monday Glow Routine - Pearls and Polkadots

Where did it all begin?

Through #stylecollective (a blogger support network), I met Annie & Cat from Collective Passions – two sisters whose goals are to touch those through beauty, food, fashion and style. I was feeling a little down near the end of 2015, thinking about my New Year’s resolutions, and wanting to make a change to my lifestyle. However, diets are so not my thing (I like chocolate too much!). When Annie told me about this one-day plan, I jumped at the chance to give it a try! Why not? You can read more about what prompted Annie and Cat to come up with Monday Glow here.

The Monday Glow Routine allows for healthy and delicious items in your one-day meal plan.

My Thoughts

Included in the Monday Glow ebook is your very own set of “Glow Journal” questions. This set of questions is designed to help keep you motivated and on track throughout the day. By recording your thoughts after each meal, it forces you to reflect on what you liked, what you didn’t like and how you are feeling. That way, you can look back and pick out which meals worked and maybe ideas that can make your next Monday Glow routine even better!!

I LOVED the Monday Glow journal! Which is why today, I am going to share mine with you:

Monday Morning

Thoughts about starting this program and how you’re feeling.

“I am so excited to try this program! When Annie & Cat shared their stories, I completely identified and because it is 2016, why not make a change? I started my day with the ‘Get Up & Glow Eggs’, accompanied by some coffee and instantly felt ready to go for the day! For a mid morning snack, I munched on my homemade ‘Protein Glow Bar’ with some tea and blueberries on the side!”

Monday Afternoon

You’re on your way to becoming a Glow babe! What are you thinking after a few of the meals?

“Surprisingly…I love quinoa! I have never had it before, but putting it in a salad tasted awesome! YUM! I accompanied the ‘Beauty Bowl’ with water and lemon. I feel so great, refreshed and full – I really thought I would be starving with just a salad for lunch, but I am not hungry at all!”

Monday Night

Almost done, pretty lady! Do you feel like you’re glowing?

“I had a momentary ‘I NEED SWEETS!’  thought, half way through night class, but instead, I opted for finishing up the last of my ‘Sunset Smoothie’ and some yummy strawberries! Keeping it healthy was the better choice, and even though chocolate was literally screaming my name (seriously, I have chocolate sitting in my bedside table drawer…), strawberries are equally as delicious!”

The Aftermath

After doing the one-day plan, I really felt energized, awake and ready to go for the week. I truly did feel like I was glowing. Which is why I took my favourite recipes and incorporated them into my daily meals for the rest of the week! The ‘Protein Glow Bar’, the ‘Sunset Smoothie’ and the ‘Beauty Bowl’ were just some of my absolute go-to meals for the rest of the week.

My Monday Glow Routine - Pearls and Polkadots

I would have to say that my favourite recipe was the ‘Sunset Smoothie’. Quick, simple and worry-free, I prepared one each day for dinner and took it with me to night class. Sipping on that throughout the evening kept me full and satisfied so I didn’t feel the need to buy something out of a vending machine half way through the lecture.

Plus: Recommended by Annie & Cat, I purchased this cute and stylish ‘Blender Bottle’ on Amazon…it is the best water bottle/smoothie bottle I have every had! (click here to get one of your own!)

My Monday Glow Routine - Pearls and Polkadots

Staying connected with my fellow ‘Glow Babes’ was important to me. When it comes to eating plans, diets or any other regiments, I tend to need support and motivation. Annie & Cat were there with me every step of the way from before my Monday Glow routine began, and throughout the entire week following! We stayed in touch through email, and the Monday Glow Babes Facebook group.

My Monday Glow Routine - Pearls and Polkadots

This is an especially great group because every gal in the group is going through the same things you are! They are making the same recipes, following the same Monday routine and even better, each babe has a different take on their plan. The conversation is flowing about what everyone is doing throughout your Monday routine – what to do to make this better, or what is great to to additionally…it’s an amazing network.

Final Words

The Monday Glow fit my way of life. It meant that I didn’t have to drastically change my diet completely, remove carbs or dairy – it’s one day per week. It acts as a reset for your body after an indulgent weekend. The most important part is that I did not feel restricted. I was not counting calories, or measuring my intake of transfat…I was simply having yummy meals that were good for meThat is why I would recommend it to friends to try.
