Oshawa Centre Grand Opening!

There is nothing better than having your mall expand to include new stores, great fashion and a brand new food court. Newer stores means newer styles and an excuse for me to ditch the books and go on a full fledged shopping spree!

After months of renovation, the Oshawa Centre unveiled their brand new look and I have to say, I am loving it!

Congratulations OC XOXO

(p.s. please excuse some iPhone quality photos – in a crowded mall, iPhone seemed like the more humble choice lol)

(p.p.s silly me also forgot to snap some photos of the new food court, so I may need to show you guys a little later!)

Shoutout to the two awesome servers who ducked down behind the cart so I could get the perfect shot!

Unfortunately, I had to miss the grand opening in the morning because I was in class! However, I did catch some happy hour cocktails, courtesy of David’s Tea and Kelsey’s (which were uh-mazing, by the way!!).

The tea vibes were beautiful. I loved all of the pinks and golds used and more importantly, the sweetness of the company was awesome too! What better way to celebrate an occasion than with a cute little cocktail? Plus, who doesn’t love the cutest tea and popcorn stand ever?

Of course, I want to highlight my look for the night (because I am pretty much obsessed with it). I paired a body suit, high waisted jeans and a long sleeveless cardi. I am obsessed with this cardi from H&M. It is the perfect third piece for any day time or night time look (stay tuned…you will be seeing it in a lot of upcoming posts).

A big thank you to the Oshawa Centre and David’s Tea for having me at the grand opening! It was so much fun and I am in love with the new wing! Congrats OC!

Miami Glam with the Rich and Fabulous

It has been a whirlwind of a summer! Living in Florida gave me the opportunity to experience beautiful places, gorgeous palm trees and beaches galore! One of those special places was Miami, and the glamour of South Beach. Miami is full of characters, cute boutiques and glam style and exploring was nothing less than pure fun!

Touching down in the city of sun brought an immediate of wonder of where to head to first!? A stroll down Ocean Drive brought me to The Betsy Hotel, where I indulged in some amazing Brioche French Toast. The Betsy Hotel is probably a favourite spot for me as it harbors cute style, a homey feel and amazing food – definitely a place to see in South Beach.

I took a walk on the wild side with this all glam strapless white jumpsuit from Charlotte Russe, and I couldn’t have felt more on top of the world. White is a tricky colour, but definitely a must wear for the summer season. White keeps you cool and gives your skin a nice tanned glow…what else is better for Miami?

After brunch, browsing through all of the amazing shops and boutiques was a must. Hopping over to Beach Bunny, BDBA, Banana Republic, and of course the infamous DASH made for some interesting and amazing moments. All while getting the eyes of awe from store keepers who totally thought we held potential of spending $400 on a checkered jumpsuit…if only.

Cute brunch vibes, sandy hair, and tanned skin – all part of of these Miami travel diaries! Can’t wait to go back!

Fit and Fabulous all the way!

Recently, I have had the opportunity to connect with a talented and fit blogger that is leading a simple and helpful fitness program that any #girlboss can jump on. When it comes to fitness, I crawl under a rock. I am just going to put it out there…I hate working out.

My Fitness History

Working out has always been a chore to me. It’s something that I dread doing and often put off. I’m sure many can see where I am coming from and so I have pretty much classified myself as a non-gym person. When you shy away from the gym, then motivation fades away because what are you really going to choose when you get home from a long day at work? Working out…or watching the Bachelorette while eating peanut butter and toast?

So why am I telling you all of this?

Fit and Fabulous

(that’s why!)

Fit and Fabulous by Courtney Bentley is a hot new program that puts working out in perspective. You don’t have to change your lifestyle. You don’t need to sign up for an expensive membership at a gym you’ll never go to. You don’t even need to workout for that long. 30 minutes. That is literally all it takes.

Even better, there is an app that comes with the program that makes your life so much easierTrainerize is an app that Courtney uses to keep up to date with you – encouragement, motivation and tips. All things that Courtney communicates using Trainerize. Having trouble with one of the exercises? She is right there to help you out virtually.

The Workout

Did I mention I hate working out? Okay, yeah you got that. Well, I actually didn’t hate doing these workouts. They were quick, simple and I didn’t have to go to the gym. Another major plus was it was just once a day! I didn’t have to find two hours every day to workout, and even more so, you could go at your own pace.

The Meal Plan

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I LOVE food. No shame in screaming that to the world. That is probably one of the biggest struggles I face when it comes to trying to lose weight or even staying in proper shape – the good eats. Well, surprise surprise, food can be healthy AND tasty.

With Fit and Fabulous, you not only get a weekly workout plan, but you get a meal plan as well. What’s on the menu? So many choices! Healthy salads, overnight oats and great fish dishes that will actually feel like you are eating a lot – but it is so good for you!! My fave? The turkey meatballs + spaghetti…amazing.

The Trainer

Trainers are so useful to have, but some can be overbearing, intimidating and well, not helpful at all. Trainers I have had in the past have made me feel worse about myself than better. Courtney could not be more opposite. She is helpful, caring and focused in making you feel better about yourself. Even better? There is no pressure.

So you had a wedding today and you binged on pasta? No worries! So you don’t like fish? No problem – Courtney will find an alternative meal to work into your plan. She is amazing and was amazing throughout my entire process. There is even a Facebook group that connects you with other amazing Fit and Fabulous ladies!

My Outcome

I tried the plan for a month. I was not totally consistent with the plan due to some personal matters that hindered my ability to participate for a portion of the time (if I am being quite truly honest). However, I changed the way I thought about fitness and have now worked her routines into my workouts regularly (yes, I actually work out now). More so, I have altered my eating habits to focus on healthier alternatives – leafy greens, turkey over beef and whole grains – all things that I learned with Fit and Fabulous.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. And your physique will not change in a month – but I believe that with a solid workout plan and an excellent leader like Courtney, change will happen.

The Pretty Faces and Flowers of Epcot

It has officially been one week (and a bit) since I touched down in Orlando, Florida and started my journey working for the mouse. I can’t wait for this adventure to take off soarin’ and for the Disney magic to touch my heart in every way possible. I can tell you now that Walt Disney World really is the happiest place on earth.

Last week, a few of my gorgeous new friends and I kicked off our journey beginning with Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival. Once a year, Epcot puts on a fabulous display of colourful flowers and hedge designs and we just so happened to be arriving during the festival!

Epcot is a pretty wide spread park and in my opinion, really fun for adults. Not only do you get to experience worlds of culture, pretty gardens and great food, the atmosphere is set more for the older age group, rather than the kiddies. It is definitely a place I love to spend time. My favourite part about this park is that you can literally travel around the park in an hour – you see so many different dishes and decor, from fruit sushi to yummy Moroccan food – simply amazing.

As you can probably tell, we had a pretty fun day/night at Epcot! It was absolutely gorgeous and the food was amazing. My favourite is a tie between the California maki rolls in the Japan pavilion and the chocolate macaron ice cream sandwich in France – both so well done and totally worth  the money!!

There is a little magic in every park, but in Epcot there is magic, food, and culture – three things that compliment each other very well.

What’s another magical thing? I get to be on this journey with another one of my fab bloggers – Annie from FabIncBlog and a truly unique and talented photographer and vlogger – Jessica from Jess Ruby and Jessica Ruxton Photography

Coming up on Pearls and Polkadots: A Big Announcement

This year, I have been focusing on moving towards partnership with bloggers, brands and finding amazing opportunities for Pearls and Polkadots. I have said this before, and I will say it time and time again but I really cannot remember my life without blogging. What did I ever do?

We are approaching half way through 2-0-1-6 and so much has been happening, not just for Pearls and Polkadots, but for me as well. Last month, I completed my four year undergraduate degree. I plan to go to teacher’s college in the Fall to become an elementary school teacher (my life-long dream). With all these changes…I am changing up the way I blog as well.

Today, I want to share some exciting news for myself and Pearls and Polkadots. Not just because I am excited, but mainly because it will affect my blogging routine immensely. So let’s get to it…

Pearls and Polkadots is packing up and going to Florida for the summer!

Yup! That’s right. A couple of months ago I was accepted into a program that is taking me down to Florida, for none other than Walt Disney World. I have really never gone out of Canada for longer than a week…so I am pretty excited to be down there for the summer!

The Changes

Other than the drastic change of location, Pearls and Polkadots will not be changing too much. However, because of the time commitment of this job and the fun experiences and opportunities that I will be having, I am deciding to post three days per week rather than five days per week, beginning May 16 (the day I leave!!).

Hopefully that will give me a lot of time to prepare some amazing content and show you my journey in Florida!

Follow along with me! It’s going to be a great summer!
