Taking Boho Chic to the Next Level!

There is a major fashion event that you don’t want to miss in the next couple of weeks. What is that? It’s Coachella. Okay…so maybe the emphasis is supposed to be on the music…technically. However, every year we see Boho Chic at its finest for this crazy music festival. I, personally, have never been since I am always in finals (boo school, right? ), BUT I stay in tune with all of the best looks…because, why wouldn’t I, right?

In order to really stop the show at this trendy festival, you need to take your look to the next level. Pull out all of the stops: fashion hats, crochet works of beauty, fringe everything…and of course floral prints (and lots of them). All of these are key essentials in a girl’s look for Coachella (or really boho anything, really).

Fashion Hats

Fashion hats are life in the summer. They are the perfect accessory to your casual summer look, and that definitely applies for any music festival you are heading to this summer.

Crochet, crochet, crochet!!

Crochet is something that took me some getting used to. With some pieces, you need to be careful with sizing because there is no give in the material, but it looks super cute for summer.

Fringe Away!

The fringe trend is one that I am loving this year. It is super boho chic, but for summer, the fringe detail is the perfect detail to spice up your summer wardrobe.

Are you prepared yet? Over the years I have come to love some of these items and although I wouldn’t classify myself as a boho-queen, I do deem some of these pieces to just be necessary in every lovely lady’s wardrobe.

I didn’t cover every single trend you are going to see at boho festivals like boho maxi dresses, but these are probably my favourite out them all. Check out cool boho accessories, floral prints (lots of floral prints) and suede…all great trends.

Are you heading to Coachella? Have you planned out your look? Stay tuned for more boho goodness…

Happy Home Opener w/ LOYAL to a TEE

Anyone know what day it is today? For those who answered Friday…you are certainly right, it is almost the weekend and we are all cheering about that. It is also the home opener for the Toronto Blue Jays!! In honour of home opener, I am showing you two looks styled with LOYAL to a TEE.

LOYAL to a TEE creates premium-fit tees for men and women, all focused around showing loyalty to what you are representing. They live by the phrase “loyalty is the ultimate currency” and when it comes to good clothing, one should always be loyal.

The Styles

A graphic tee is a key piece in the casual gal’s closet and when it comes time to hit up the stadium…a tee is definitely the ultimate choice. Whether you are going to a fan party, the bar, or the game itself, the tee you represent is going to be the focus of your look.

I’ve assembled one game look, and one party/bar look so that your sports style needs are fulfilled.

The Game

Going to the game, you have to keep it fun, cute and casual. I styled the ‘TORONTO’ tee with casual ripped skinnies, a bright beanie, motorcycle boots and a denim jacket. The jean on jean look is coming back and coming back strong. I really love the colour of the tee against the denim texture and how the pop of pink ties contrasts against the vibrant blue.

The Party

Transitioning a game look to a party look calls for a simple swap with a few key pieces. I went for an edgier look to style the ‘SIX is Home’ tee. I am all about the moto jacket and I think it is the key piece to take your game look to the look of the night. I kept the ripped skinnies because they look great with the shirt and are in keeping with the edgy feel of this look.

LOYAL to a TEE shirts are the perfect fit for the female fan. It can be hard to find women’s sports clothing that are good quality, a good price and fit well. These tees are comfy, fitted and perfect for the lady who wants to rep her team in style.

I’ll be cheering for the Jays tonight, hoping we bring home that win for home opener!!

Go Blue Jays!!

**Although this post was sponsored by LOYAL to a TEE,  my review, thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

SAM Fashion Show Recap: Part Two

Last Thursday night, the biggest charity fashion event at McMaster took place and I had a front row seat! The clothes were trendy and fabulous, the models were on point and the music was bumping…making for a pretty awesome night! If you’re inspired by fashion, trends and even creating your own clothing brands, websites such as gblabels.co.uk can be really helpful in making items of clothing look professional and high quality. If you’re not a designer yourself but still love fashion, read on and enjoy!

SAM Fashion Show Recap: Part Two - Pearls and Polkadots

On Monday, I gave you the full run down of the madness that was backstage prior to the show and at intermission, but today I want to give you a recap on runway walks, the designers, the musical guests and the awesome charity that made #SamAirlines take off!

Ronald McDonald House Charities

This year, Style at Mac chose Ronald McDonald House Charities to raise money and awareness for. This program was designed to assist families who have had the misfortune of their child being ill and hospitalized. Often, children’s hospitals are located a distance away from a family’s home, so with the help of Ronald McDonald House Charities, they are able to stay at a house in order to stay connected with their children while they undergo treatment or a stay in the hospital.

The Hamilton House

The McMaster Children’s Hospital is steps away from the Hamilton House run by Ronald McDonald House Charities Hamilton. The Hamilton House was built in 1933 and houses 40 families. Not always being such a large house, the Hamilton house underwent a major renovation and reopened in the Spring of 2012, serving more families who were in need, than ever before. Ronald McDonald House Charities Hamilton aims to provide a “home away from home” for these families in need.

#SamAirlines Takes Off

I was pretty excited sitting in my seat while I waited for the night to take off. The lights were dimmed, the music was beginning and everyone was anxiously waiting to visit the first location. As you can probably assume, I am not the most skilled runway photographer, and probably could have got up to position myself a little better, but nevertheless, I will tell you all about it. #SamAirlines took us to several locations including Paris, Japan and Miami (to name a few), the fashion showcased for each location was marvelous.

Pre-show Runway

The Runway

We went everywhere on Thursday night – Miami, Brooklyn…even the Hamptons! It was perfect. The models were coordinated, the fashion was on point and the vibe in the room was great! I think my favourite part about fashion overall is the fact that you want wear and be whoever you want. Everyone has their own style, so no matter how you decide to put an outfit together, no one can judge you for it. Your style may not be everyone’s taste, but that shouldn’t be a problem, especially not for you anyway. Whether you buy your accessories from a company such as Jacobs the jeweller or from Primark, this shouldn’t make a difference as to how you decide to pull it off.

The Designers

I wish I could have captured every single piece that walked down that runway, but fortunately, I can tell you all about it! Every designer at Sam En Route showcased their trendy style and the crowd was loving every bit of it!! Fierce. That’s all I have to say.

The Gap

Getting on the plane, models showcased several looks styled by the Gap. Clothing was kept cool and casual and totally in style this season, complete with a lot of jeans, cardigans and cute totes.

Shop Josette

Our first stop with #SamAirlines was in Miami – the land of the sun. Models showcased cute swimsuits and beautiful beach accessories styled by Shop Josette. Shop Josette is a unique line based in Hamilton, Ontario. Each item is hand made and custom to fit your style needs. Coming up to summer, I was really loving the cute bikinis and one pieces that SAM styled.

Parlez de Nous

Next stop – Brooklyn! PDN brings cool, trendy and unique into one clothing line easily. Based in Hamilton, the line serves for the fashion forward individuals. I loved seeing the male models strut the runway in this line – chic, risk taking and trendy.

The Hamptons brought white two pieces, flirty dresses and fun styles by Mendocino. Mendocino is a Toronto-based boutique that exercises the full right to “6” style. Looks at the fashion show were airy, light and totally chic. My favourite was a two piece white set that was modeled. The line was definitely wearable fashion that anyone could pick out and look great in!

Designs by Mallory

One of the student designers supplied the fashion for our next stop on #SamAirlines to Versailles. This designer’s name is Mallory and she did not disappoint. The line that was modeled on the runway was a mashup of great patterns, fabrics, textures and which overall, came quite nicely. My favourite piece in the show that I wish I had captured properly was a beautiful lilac textured dress with dragon flies on it.

Johnston & Murphy

It was off to Washington DC and who better to dress the men than Johnston & Murphy. All I can say is this is the most classic style that I personally love on men. The male models were certainly dressed to impress, and looked great.

White Elephant

In keeping with the timeless, classic theme, we headed to Paris to view some of White Elephant’s best pieces. White Elephant is a boutique located in Hamilton, run by two ladies – Jane & Holly. Complete with colourful clothing, summery pieces and beautiful prints, we felt right in Paris with these gorgeous styles!

Time to head to Japan! In an instant climate change, we saw drastic lines, shapes and angles in the styles sported down the runway by Angelou. Although the initial reaction to the styles were outlandish, I found that as more pieces came down the runway, I found myself taking a stronger liking to the trendy styles that were showcased.

The Eye of Faith

Last stop on aboard #SamAirlines was Milan. Vintage style and chic trends by The Eye of Faith were brought down the runway in Milan and was everyone loving it? Yes! I was certainly loving all the unique looks and definitely could see myself strutting down a runway in one of the looks myself. I personally loved all the texture and fabrics that were used in this line. Definitely was feeling the cool vibe of Milan here.

The Entertainment

There were so many great acts at Sam En Route this year, and I was fortunate enough to hang backstage with the starting act, The Juicy Boys. Michael, Zack, Erik and Brian are all second year engineering students at McMaster. With similar interests in jazz funk style, the boys bonded over their love for the music and formed a band just two months ago.

“How we got our name is my last name is Jobity, so we called [our band] ‘Jobity and the…’ and then we wondered what adjective starts with J. So we went on the internet and we saw ‘juicy’ and we just kind of went with it…” – Michael, The Juicy Boys

“We’ve been juicy ever since…” – Brian, The Juicy Boys

On stage, the boys killed it, keeping the vibe fun and jazzy to start off the night. Definitely a great start to the amazing entertainment that accompanied us en route.

I could go on and on about the entertainment that we saw last Thursday night – it was enjoyable, entertaining and kept the night so upbeat! It was truly a night to remember. We raised some great money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities and saw some excellent fashion forward pieces. More importantly, we traveled around the globe in two hours flat!

A big thank you to Style at Mac, the Juicy Boys, and all the lovely people who put up with me scrambling around interviewing and photographing backstage all night! It was truly an amazing evening!

12 Pantone Coloured Items Under $100

The Style Collective Spring Style Challenge is launching on Monday. I have been planning out the upcoming looks for the last month, and to go along with each look, I want to highlight some of my favourite items that correlate with the themes each day! Today, I thought I would give you several cute items that are centered around the two Pantone colours of the year: Serenity and Rose Quartz.

I had actually never heard of “Pantone” before this year until I read 5 ways to Incorporate the Pantone Color of the Year into your Wardrobe by Julianna at Blush and Camo! I fell in love with these colours mainly because they are two of my favourite colours and have been for a while (especially pink!!).

12 Pantone Coloured Items Under $100 - Pearls and Polkadots

These are some of my favourite picks!! I love these colours and they are so perfect for Spring and even more importantly, transitioning into Summer!! The best way to incorporate this colour is in accessories, in my opinion. It’s perfect if you don’t want to go too bold with a moto jacket, or a dress (pastels aren’t for everyone), but carrying a cute clutch like this one is perfect!

What’s your take on the Pantone colours of the year? Let me know in the comments below…

Cop that Style: 4 Classic Coachella-chic looks to copy

Coachella is right around the corner and although I am not going, I cannot wait to see the trendy looks that come out of the festival!! While boho is not my main go-to fashion style, I do love some of the trendy pieces that come along with the fashion category. I have been getting really into florals lately (how could you not?!). Not to mention, all of the fun fringe pieces – so cute!

If you are heading that way this year for this annual event, take a look at some classic “Coachella-chic” looks that you can copy simply and easily. I have assembled several outfits for you to steal: cute, casual, comfortable…the three C’s that go along with Coachella.
