Morning Must-Reads: For Style

MORNING MUST-READSIn the last year, I have become a real blog junkie. Being apart of the blogger community, I have found numerous blogs that I love to read and read regularly. I bookmark them, subscribe, and share as much as possible. After all, bloggers need other bloggers to support them!

Morning Must-Reads is a concept that I am going to carry out every so often in order to share the blogs that I love to read for particular niches.

Helena always looks amazing. I envy her style and am inspired by her outfit selections every day! I always look forward to a new post, and regularly are shopping her looks so that I can try and look as jazzed up as she is. The blonde from Brooklyn is a gal that I would love to be friends with…which is why her blog is so great! She is relatable and that’s why I read her regularly! Check her blog out here.

Jean has been one of my blogger idols for a long time. Since I got Pinterest, I have been following Jean along on her style journey. Her outfit posts are bright, cheery and joyful – and her clothing is to die for. I am almost always turning to her blog for inspiration, style tips, outfit ideas…and well, everything else!! Not to mention, she and her husband are adorable together! Check out her blog here.

Convey The Moment

Eleni is such a sweetheart and has been one of my inspirations from the beginning. Her unique style is hard not to love, and her pictures are always impeccable. Even better? She is Canadian just like me, which I is always so great to find! Although I love all the American fashionistas out there, it hits closer to home when I see my country in the background (snow, snow and more snow!). Check out her blog here.

Lyndsey is another Canadian beauty that I am new to following. Don’t you just love hashtags? That’s how I came across her page and fell in love with her clothing…and her dog, I mean…how cute! Lyndsey’s use of colour and patterns have given me inspiration in my daily outfits and reading her posts make me smile! How much better can it get? Check out her blog here.

Grace is a blogger that I kept seeing pop up on my Pinterest home page and after seeing outfit after outfit that I was drooling over…I clicked a few times and found her blog. It’s been a morning must-read ever since. She is a fashion guru – whether it is a pair of rain boots with jeans, or a fab red mini-dress like below, she looks gorgeous! Check out her blog here.

Poncho in the Wind

When you have a full week off, you think of fun and crazy things to do, and one of those fun things is a random photo shoot on the back roads. My family loooves going for drives and in the Fall it is such a pretty scenery! So why not snap some outfit details against a beautiful Fall backdrop? I have to say, my sister is a champ…she puts up with so much with my outfit photo shoots, and she does such a spectacular job (love you Heather!!).

It was incredibly windy during the details shoot we did yesterday, and being my creative self, I thought it would be cool to throw leaves in the air for the shot…well, it sort of worked?

Heading into the Fall season, I was on the hunt for an olive green poncho. Well this poncho is even better! It has just enough detail in the knit pattern that it becomes the focus of the look, yet it is now overshadowing of any other piece in the outfit! Plus, it kept me very warm on this windy, chilly day. Accenting with leopard print is always a good idea, and with earthy tones especially! This doctor’s bag is from mark. by Avon (a few years ago) and it is just lovely. It is great quality, cute and very functional!

It is starting to look like we will be getting colder and colder weather from this point on, which is awesome for all of my sweaters because they will be worn A LOT more often! I have a bit of an addiction to buying sweaters (especially sweaters from J.Crew)…

Enjoy and have a nice day!

P.S.

This little horse came right up to my sister and I when we were taking shots and wanted to be in the shot…so we let him! What a nice, little surprise!

Inside My Mind: Liebster Award Winner x2!

INSIDE MY MINDBlogging is my true passion. I love being able to put my thoughts into a post, share it with the world and see how people react. Although my niche is fashion and style, this world has opened me up to a world of bloggers who I have very high respects for. I have learned how to bake delicious treats, decorate my bedroom, and how to reflect upon my own personal goals. We support, love and help each other get further in our blogging careers, and without one another, we wouldn’t get too far! Which is why I am such a believer in the Liebster Award and I am happy to announce that I have been nominated twice – first by Tanya from Tanya’s 101 and then again by Sammy from Bargain Baglady!

What is the Liebster Award? The Liebster award is an award given by a fellow blogger, to an upcoming blogger. It acts as a ‘good job’ specifically to those who are building their follow list. If a blogger has less than 1000 followers and are doing a great job, they qualify for the award. The blogger who nominates, sends along some questions for the blogger they are nominating! That nominee will add eleven facts about themselves and then keeps the cycle going by nominating other bloggers! It’s a giant cycle, all to recognize new and upcoming bloggers! (Just a heads up…this is going to be a long post!)

Tanya asked me 11 questions…

1. What do you want to achieve by blogging? When I began to blog, all I wanted was to publish what I was passionate about. However, as I have discovered the blogging community and how large the support network is, I have been encouraged to keep going forward. I have learned to set goals, which has pushed me to find a direction. I want to keep writing for happiness and follow the path it leads me on!

2. Which blogging achievement are you proud of most? I was really excited when my page views surpassed 50,000. Over the past nine months, I have watched my stats fluctuate up and down, growing from just 12 views per day, to 1,500 per day! That is a major accomplishment for my blog and myself.

3. What does your perfect day look like? My perfect day includes sitting on my back patio, book in hand, iced coffee in stationed beside me, the sun shining down and not worrying about anything – just reading.

4. How do you describe home? Simple answer. Home is where my family is.

5. If you could have any super power, what would it be? I never know how to answer this question. There are so many potential powers…but I think teleporting would be really cool (and it would give me more time to sleep in the morning).

6. Write down the lyrics of a song which describes you today. The lyrics don’t really describe me today, necessarily. But the song “Cool for the Summer” by Demi Lovato was on constant repeat today.

7. What’s your favourite book of all time? Why? My favourite books are written by Emily Giffin. I absolutely adore her and my all time favourite book is “Something Borrowed” – before the movie (although the movie is amazing, too).

8. If you could make the travel of your dreams, where would you go? Walt Disney World. The answer is always Walt Disney World.

9. Name five goals you want to have achieved one year from now. 1) Catalog my entire closet 2) 5000+ followers 3) Sponsored posts 4) Graduate from university 5) Regular posting routine (blogging)

10. What is your most important life lesson so far? I don’t rank my life lessons by importance, simply because everything I learn each day is important to me and I always keep in the back of my mind!

11. Which dream are you planning on achieving? I plan on achieving my dream of being a teacher.

Sammy asked me a few more…

1. If you could have a 1-hour chat with any celebrity (dead or alive), who would it be and what’s the main topic of conversation? This is always a head scratcher question for me…I guess I would have to go with Ellen Degeneres. I absolutely love her, never miss her show and think she is so interesting.

2. How did you discover the theme of your blog? What inspired you? Blogging kind of fell into my lap. I didn’t really intend on starting a blog…I just posted pictures of what I wore to my personal Instagram account and then figured I would create a separate account for my clothing…just because. One thing lead to another and I found myself blogging every day!

3. What is your favourite food? Anyone who knows me, knows that I am in love with BLT sandwiches…and always will be.

4. How do you feel about winning the Liebster award? Incredibly excited! Being nominated twice is such an honour and makes me feel that I truly am reaching people. In less than a year, I have gained over 1000 people who follow me and that pushes me to write more. I am so incredibly appreciative of this community I have been welcomed into and have truly found my passion for writing.

5. What’s the next big plan for your life? Well, I really want to finish up school this year, and then work towards purchasing my first home. I am set on owning a house by the time I am thirty. I’ve got just under ten years…so I feel like I could certainly accomplish that!

Random Facts About Me…

  1. My favourite lunch hour pastime is to read and eat fries from Wendy’s in my favourite place in the city.
  2. I design house plans for fun in my spare time (that I plan to use when I own my own house).
  3. I’d rather be cold than hot.

And now, I nominate…

Adriana from Daily Dose of Design

David from The Daily Dayne

Jasmine from Colour U Bold

Alex from Auburn Pride

All of you have amazing content that I always enjoy reading, which is why I am challenging you to answer the following eight questions and then nominate three other new bloggers with under 1000 followers. Write a post about your Liebster Award, answer these questions below and then thank the blogger who nominated you! Bloggers support bloggers, so let’s pass this award around to recognize all of who put their heart and soul every day, week and month of the year!

  1. What inspired you to blog? Why did you begin to blog?
  2. Where is your favourite place to blog?
  3. What is the biggest achievement to date in your blogging career?
  4. What is a key part of your morning routine?
  5. Favourite movie of all time?
  6. Are you a spur of the moment, think on the spot blogger or do you plan everything out ahead of time?
  7. Dog or cat person?
  8. What will your life look like one year from now?

Have fun everyone! I hope that these questions aren’t too hard and you can answer them – I look forward to reading your posts!

Instagram Takeover: The Blog Love Project

BannerBeing connected to the blogging community, there are a lot of different Facebook groups that I have joined in order to promote and support other blogs in addition to my own (bloggers support bloggers, right?). Through these communities, I have met many bloggers in different niches and created great friendships. So when the opportunity arose to take over the Instagram of The Blog Love Project, I jumped at the chance.

I have never participated in an Instagram takeover, and it was a great experience that I will definitely do again! The takeover just happened to be on the day I was heading into the city to see a baseball game!! It was such a sunny, hot and overall amazing day which was great for posting pictures!

In today’s post, I am going to review my takeover of The Blog Project and tell you the story of what a day it was!!

August 16, 2015 – What a Morning!

1 2 3

Bright and early on Sunday morning, I woke up to the bright sun and clear skies – perfect for a baseball game! Before I took over The Blog Love Project, I thought about how I wanted to go about posting. Did I want to post every hour? Every two hours? Well…there are some guidelines when taking over an account. You don’t want to completely spam the account – viewers will get bored of you, or they will get tired of seeing your posts!

Spread out the photos. This will create more activity because the viewers that are looking will look forward to seeing the next few posts instead of thinking that you post too much!!

4 5 6

The game was absolutley fantastic, and even though my friends and I were up in the “nose-bleed seats”, we still had a grand ole’ time!! The advantage of having seats up above is you can see all of the action from a distance, and at the same time, you can enjoy the sun (wearing sunscreen, of course!). Being the style blogger that I am, I love the baseball look. I got to rep my hometown’s team, while looking pretty cute (if I do say so myself!). Throughout the day, I made sure to tell a story in the takeover.

Leave your viewers wanting more. That is one tip that is great! When you have a picture limit (which for me was 6-8 photos), you want to make sure that those photos engage the viewers! I tried to promote  the next activity I was going to do, so that when a viewer reads the caption…they remember to look back for more! You are telling a story, essentially!

7 8

To end the takeover, I gave a last look at the field (after a great win!), a snap of the CN tower and then a quick shot of my comfy shoes for the ride home! I wanted to tie the whole takeover together by showing me going home and ending the day on a good note! All in all, it was a lovely day, and it only seemed right to end the takeover with the end of my day!

Keeping it under ten photos. Ten photos in a day is plenty for a takeover…or even your personal account! I kept the number at eight (mainly because of the guidelines that I was given). That is a great number though! Keeps you away from the “spam” category and also allows you to tell a story throughout the day!

Taking over The Blog Project‘s Instagram was entertaining and such a great way to connect with other viewers! I highly recommend you check out their blogger group on Facebook and try for an opportunity to do it yourself. At the very least, you will meet some amazing people and form relationships (perfect for new bloggers!).
