Beautiful Beauty Bloggers: Falling For these Autumn Lip Colours – Guest Post

6Today is the last day of Pearls and Polkadots’ “Beautiful Beauty Bloggers” series and although I’m sad to end this wonderful series, I am so happy to have Holly from Holly’s Housewife Life guest posting today! Her blog is so cute and fun to read and I always enjoy learning some new beauty tips (not to mention the pictures of her cutie pie!) Happy Reading!

Hi All!!  I’m Holly from  Holly’s Housewife Life and I’m here to talk LIPSTICK. Lipstick is a hot passion of mine so I thought I would share a few fall favorites with you all today.

When the warmer weather dies down and cool breezes start taking over I take that as my cue to amp up the lip game from light wearing/sheer pinks and corals to a punchy purple. Its the perfect transition lip before the deep, bold reds of the holiday season come into play. A burgundy or plum pout flatters every skin tone, is the perfect accessory to your scarf and sweater combo AND pops against the auburn/gold Canadian leaves; Eh.

So here are a few of my fall favorites for 2015 shades:

Left to right:

Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in the shade Smitten, this is a flat out classic lippie. If you are a lipstick wearing pro or a newbie you should have some of these balm stains in your collection. The formula can be worn sheer, layered with extra gloss or built up to a fuller lip colour. Under $10 at Walmart or drugstore locations and is worth every penny!

MAC Cosmetics lustre lipstick in Plumful, a staple in most beauty lovers lipstick drawers. Its soft, smooth and so easy to wear. Described as a “blossoming rose-plum” it will flatter all ages from high school to hot grandma! $20 at MAC stores and online.

Kat Von D liquid lipstick in Bauhau5, this one is a bit trickier to apply because it really is long lasting! Do not apply in a hurry! However once its applied you wont have to look in the mirror all day, its a matte finish in a beautiful raspberry shade. $24 at Sephora Canada locations.

(These are my new favorite liquid lip colours, I mustn’t be alone because the colours are always sold out online. I am on the waiting list for half of them!)

Bite Beauty matte crème lipstick in Mulled Maple, I could not write a fall favorites post without mentioning the limited edition Bite beauty Canadian inspired lipsticks. These babies are so smooth and pigmented they are like a lip lovers dream. Do not dare to apply without lip liner because they’re so buttery your lips will be sliding all over the place! $28 at Sephora Canada they come in 5 gorgeous fall shades and you have to get your hands on them before they’re gone!

(Oops not sold on them yet?! They also smell like maple syrup, really they do!)

To get in the fall mood I did a quick little photo shoot on a chilly, rainy Newfoundland day..

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers: Fall is Here! 7 Easy Ways to Move Your Makeup Routine into Autumn – Guest Post

5This is the fifth day of Pearls and Polkadots’ “Beautiful Beauty Bloggers” series. I have Natalia from I’m Almost Ready guest posting today! It’s too bad we are nearing the last couple of days of the BBB Series, but I am psyched about these seven ways that Natalia has put together for us today!! Happy Reading!!

unnamed (6)im almost ready

Natalia is a beauty and curly-hair blogger in New York City. When she’s not busy exploring NYC one makeup store at a time, she likes to take photos, read horribly-written mystery novels, and hopes one day to create a cat eye that’s even on both eyes. You can find Natalia at her blog, I’m Almost Ready.

I absolutely love fall and everything that comes with it: sweaters, boots, changing leaves, apple-picking, pumpkin-flavored everything, and, best of all, fall-inspired makeup!

Even if you’re not a fan of the cooler weather, it’s tough not to find something fun in the fall makeup trends that feature darker, richer colors and lots of experimentation in the looks you can create.

While summer makeup is usually characterized by a lightweight base, bronze eye shadows, coral lips, brightly-colored nails, and glowy skin, fall makeup tends to be dominated by heavier bases, as well as darker and richer shades on our eyes, lips, and nails.

Just as we have to clear out our closets to make room for our cooler-weather clothes, it’s also a great idea to go through your makeup bag and get yourself ready for the fall’s makeup trends. If you want some tips and techniques on how to bring out your facial features click here, you can learn effective ways to bring out your facial features and enhance your natural beauty, creatively expressing yourself through makeup.

Below, I’ve shared my 7 tips for turning your summer makeup collection into a fall one!

First, we’ll prepare our skin and our base:

1. Add some more moisture to your skincare routine

With the cooler weather coming our way, it’s incredibly important to make sure that your skin is getting all of the moisture it needs! Even those of us with oily skin should make sure that our faces are properly moisturized. While it might seem counterintuitive, if you’re not adequately moisturizing your skin, it’ll overcompensate by producing more oil!

2. Choose a heavier base…

With the heat and humidity during the summertime, you can easily feel like your skin is suffocating under a heavier foundation. It’s no surprise that we all flock to the much more lightweight tinted moisturizers and BB creams in the warmer months.

As fall rolls around, though, you can comfortably pull out those foundations with more coverage than your tinted moisturizer or BB cream.

3. …but be sure to match your lighter skin tone

I know you all wear sunscreen like you’re supposed to (you all wear sunscreen right?), but even with the best of intentions, you probably tanned a bit this summer. Or, maybe you tanned the healthy way with some self-tanner.

Either way, as summer winds down, your tan will start to fade–and you’ll want to make sure that the foundation you’re using matches your lighter skin-tone, in order to avoid the dreaded “mask” of foundation, where your face is a different color from your neck.

Now, we’ll switch up our makeup:

4. Use your bronzer to contour instead of glow

Summertime makeup is all about glowing, and when we’re not strobing, we’re using bronzer to create a warm, summer glow by placing bronzer on the places where the sun would normally hit our face.

As fall rolls around, however, you’ll want to switch out your shimmery bronzer for a matte one. Applying your bronzer below the cheekbones, rather than on top of them, and lightly contouring your face will give you a look better-suited for fall.

5. Opt for darker lips and nails

The corals and fuschia lip colors that tend to dominate our makeup bags during the summer can be replaced with deeper burgundy, wine, and marsala tones (finally, the perfect season to work Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year into our makeup routines!).

The same rule goes for your nail polish. When fall rolls around, trade in your bright shades for your richer, deeper tones, as well as your more metallic shades.

6. Put those shimmery eye shadows away and pull out your metallic shades

During the summer, shimmery eye shadows create the perfect summer glow, but as the leaves start to turn, metallic golds, silvers, and coppers work wonderfully to create a fall-inspired look.

7. Embrace lots of liner and smokey eyes

In the warmer months, we tend to use a lighter hand with our liner, if we wear it at all. With the cooler weather on the horizon, though, this is a perfect time to pull out our sadly-neglected black liners, and create some bolder looks.

Graphic liner looks, bold cat-eyes, and smokey eyes in shades of black and brown–topped off with some black liner, of course!–paired with your favorite boots and a pumpkin-spiced latte: could it be any more fall?

What do you look forward to the most when it comes to fall makeup?

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers: Home Remedy for Moisturizing Face Mask – Guest Post

4

Today is the fourth day of Pearls and Polkadots’ “Beautiful Beauty Bloggers” series and I could not be happier to have Stephanie from The Remedy Genie guest posting today! She comes up with the most amazing remedies that you can simply do from your home. From hair care to home cleaning, she never disappoints! Make sure you give her blog a read and check out her a-mazing remedies! Happy Reading!

theremedygenie

I am so pleased to have been invited as a guest blogger here and I am excited to share with you my latest home remedy. My name is Stephanie and my blog consists of all the best home remedies and I cover everything from Skin and Hair care, to house hold cleaning. I began researching home remedies about five years ago, mostly for skin care and after a while I decided to look into all natural ingredients and their benefits. My aim, is to create as many remedies as I possibly can.

1

Just as our hair needs conditioning treatment, so does the delicate skin of our face. Our face is the one thing that we leave uncovered for most of the day which means that as we walk around doing our day to day activities, our pores are open to all the pollutants around us. Washing your face daily cleanses and your follow up cream moisturizes, but from time to time we need to apply a nice healthy mask to our face for rejuvenation and healthy skin purposes.

We all have different skin types and we all will have different results with different ingredients of course, so I aim to make remedies and have my friends and family test them with me so that I can share diverse recipes that work for all! Here is a really good home remedy for moisturizing face mask.

Moisturizing Face Mask:

Ingredients

  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 tea spoon organic plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons flour – any type

Mix all the ingredients into a nice thick paste.

Rub the mixture into your face in small amounts like you would with lotion

Then apply a good amount all over and let it sit for about 30 minutes

Rinse and enjoy my home remedy for moisturizing face mask. Id strongly suggest following up with a natural toner and face cream, you can find my recipes under the facial cleansers and creams in the skin and body section.

Give this a try and enjoy the results! I’d love to know if you enjoyed this remedy so please leave and a comment after you have tried. I would also love to hear your favorite remedy so feel free to share them in the comments below.

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers: DIY Homemade Body Sugar Scrub – Guest Post

3

This is the third day of Pearls and Polkadots’ “Beautiful Beauty Bloggers” series. I have Lindsey from Beauty Affair guest posting  today! She blogs about the latest trends in make up and style, which is why it is great that she will be joining us this week for the series! Lindsey has quite the eye for style, when it comes to make up, and today she will be showing you a very useful scrub that you can make from scratch!! Happy Reading!!

1  Beauty Affair

My name is Lindsey Gillian and I am a makeup and beauty blogger over at beautyliciousblog.com. I am a busy, full time working mom who loves to report on all of the hip and trendy beauty tips and tricks and to keep your style ever evolving. This DIY beauty hack is one of my personal favourites!

A really good body sugar treatment at a spa can cost you upwards of $300. Purchasing your own at a health store can also be rather pricey, but the best part is, you can make your own at home for much less and rest assured it is just as effective as the products you will find at the salon. In fact- it is better because it is natural!

This is the recipe that I am currently using and I swear by this stuff. I use it once per week on my entire body and it leaves my skin feeling amazing. If you are not familiar with body sugar scrubs, they are designed to gently exfoliate and massage and re-hydrate your skin. I strongly recommend using these at least once per week, especially if you are pregnant. I used this weekly on my belly while I was pregnant and I was lucky enough to by-pass the stretch marks. Now, a large part of stretch marks lies in your genetics yes, but there are things you can do to certainly help prevent them- like gently exfoliating!

2

Here is a simple recipe to follow for your own body sugar scrub:

For the scrub you will need to select a sugar. Be sure to select a sugar that has fine graduals to avoid tearing or chafing of your skin (I personally use brown sugar, but coconut sugar is also highly recommended) Select an oil to use- There are several different kinds like Olive Oil (recommended by actress Eva Longoria), Safflower oil, almond oil. My personal choice is coconut oil – which has several healing properties and can be purchased at any health food store. Now mix! 1 part oil to 2 parts sugar. Keep in a sealed container in a cool place (not the fridge, more like a dark cupboard away from any heat source) You will notice that the sugar will settle to the bottom after a few hours. This is normal. Just stir with a spoon or shake up when you are ready to use this again.

Beautiful Beauty Bloggers: Fall 2015 Colour Trends: Makeup and Nails – Guest Post

2This is the second day of Pearls and Polkadots’ “Beautiful Beauty Bloggers” series. I have Ashley from Mommy’s Vanity guest posting today! She keeps everything light, fun and interesting with her take on nail trends and fashion along with much, much more! You have to stop by her blog next to check it out! Happy Reading!!

unnamed (4)unnamed (3)

Hi all! I’m Ashley, blogger behind Mommy’s Vanity. I’m thrilled to be guest posting today on Pearls and Polkadots and bring you some Fall makeup and nail colour trends!

Before becoming a stay-at-home Mom, I worked as an Esthetician, so I have a strong passion for all things beauty. I’ve been doing some research to see what kinds of colours are going to be trending this Fall and I’m so ready to dig into those rich, darker colours! Although I love the warm Summer weather, there is just something refreshing about the crisp Fall air, changing leaves and of course switching up my beauty routine to reflect the season.

Here are some of the top colour trends you will see coming up for Fall:

unnamed (1)

Makeup:

Wine: This is undeniably one of the most popular colours coming up for Fall and rightfully so!  I particularly love this lip colour paired with a simple eye look so the daring lip is the focal point. (Shown:  MAC Cosmetics Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Labradorable & Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Sparkling Blackberry)

Flushed Cheeks: Add a pop of pink on the cheeks to make it look as if you just spent the afternoon on the ski hill! A natural flush is easy to achieve with a powder blush or cheek tint. (Shown: Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Justify my Love & Sephora Colourful Cheek Ink Gel in Peony)

Bronze Glow: A shimmering bronze shadow is proving to be a huge trend this Fall. It can be a fun way to add a little sparkle to your Fall makeup routine! (Shown: Colourpop Cosmetics Eyeshadow in On the Rocks & NARS Velvet Shadow Stick in Oaxaca)

Soft Smoky Eye: This Fall, the traditional smoky eye is a little less dramatic. Using softer browns and grey’s instead of a harsher black can take the smoky eye to a wearable everyday look! (Shown: Urban Decay Smoky Palette & elf Everyday Smoky Palette).

unnamed (2)

Nails:

Woodsy: One of my personal favourite nail colour trends for this Fall is Earth Tones. Rich chocolate browns and mossy greens will be my go-to polishes this season! (Shown: Zoya Cinnamon & China Glaze Take a Hike).

Metallic Jewels: This trend has been making an appearance for the past few years, and I’m glad it’s back again! Gorgeous jewel tones like vibrant purple and aquamarine, and metallic shades in bronze and silver are showing to be popular. (Shown: Zoya Giada & OPI Venice the Party?)

Sheer: Something a little different this year is a pretty, simple and sheer manicure. These nail strengtheners help protect and strengthen nails while adding just a hint of colour. Available in shades of taupe, nude and porcelain pink. (Shown: Formula X Sheer Strength in Mighty and Powerful)

Blues: Blue is back this Fall in an array of shades! I’ve never been a huge lover of blue, but it’s starting to grow on me! Pale blue, cobalt, indigo and navy are all front runners this year. (Shown: OPI Gelato on my Mind & Essie Bell Bottom Blues).

Wine and Berry: Again, deep reds are showing up in almost every Fall nail polish collection and I love it! Purple-toned and brown-toned reds are seemingly most popular. (Shown: Marc Jacobs Rita & Deborah Lippman Miss Independent).

Which Fall colours do you most look forward to sporting this Fall? Let us know in the comments!
