It’s Back to School I Go + New Year’s Resolution!

Today marks the end of my holiday. It is back to school for me and time to hit the books! After a three week long vacation, I packed up all of my clothing and headed back to school. I can’t say it was the happiest occasion in the world…I do enjoy my relaxation time at home and miss my family when I’m at school. However, it feels nice to be back in my own place, with my own space to do whatever I want. It is a different feel from home…can’t say that I don’t miss my puppy though (the photo bomber in the photo below…)

What do I miss most?

I would have to say my closet is one of the things I miss. That sounds superficial, but it is so true! At school, I rent one of eight rooms in a studenet house and my room happens to be the converted dining room. Therefore, there is no closet. Which means no room for anything. Somehow, I manage to get everything stored away…while resorting to interesting ways to store clothing (drawers, shelves, under my bed, under my desk…everywhere).

Anyway, I am excited to get back into my routine and have a great semester!

Obviously, there are the classic New Year’s Resolutions like get good grades and try to maintain a healthier lifestyle, but I have one resolution that is more realistic for the place I am at in my life now. Here is my one resolution for 2-0-1-5:

1. Continue with Pearls and Polkadots.

Pearls and Polkadots hasn’t been launched at this point, but this is definitely something that I want to be successful with. I want to make this my space for expression and creativity! We will have to see where it goes!

Happy New  Year!

3 Statement Pieces I am Loving

I have never really been a HUGE fan of jewelry…until this year. Now, I almost always look for the perfect statement necklace to pair with my ensemble. In the past, I have gravitated to a simplistic strand of pearls on my neck. I mean, pearls pretty much go with everything, right? However, there is NOTHING wrong with making a statement once and a while…

Statement Pieces I am Loving:

3 Statement Pieces I am Loving

I am obsessed with these necklaces! They are big and beautiful…really what you want in a big statement piece. I originally came across the rose wreath piece at J.Crew, but they are often out of stock. If you look hard enough, it is easy to find similar pieces at a much lower price point.

The Multi-Strands of Pearls

3 Statement Pieces I am Loving

No one is surprised that pearls are included in this round up, are they? I sure do love my pearls! It’s always nice to switch it up, and one way to do that is add more strand than one! Keeping the class, but adding a bit more to make a statement is always a great idea.

The Statement Watch

3 Statement Pieces I am Loving

Although pretty much everyone uses their cell phone to tell time, having an actual watch is a nice touch to the perfect outfit. I, personally, love the statement watch – big face, decorative strap – I’m all about it! Of course, you can always splurge and get a fancy-schmancy statement piece, but if you find a smaller brand, you can usually keep it affordable! If you want a timepiece that is sure to turn heads, Patek Philippe watches at Berry’s Jewellers are the perfect accessory to make that all important statement, distinguishing you from the rest of the crowd.

Although I am a simplistic girl, I love a big statement sometimes! Like always, I am constantly on the look out for cute pieces, trendy styles and fun jewelry to add to my collection!

Power of Plaid

Two days into the New Year, and I am relishing in the fact that I have cable, my puppy, and time to do nothing before I have to back to school. It’s too bad the winter break is ending, but something that is keeping me up is this my new love for patterns…specifically PLAID! Over the past few months, I have strengthened my wardrobe with more and more patterned pieces.

I thought it would be fun to share some looks that I’ve been loving on Pinterest. These looks aren’t just cute, but they have inspired me to incorporate plaid into my wardrobe in multiple ways.

The Oversized Shirt

It’s always handy to have a plaid shirt…but a BIG shirt is amazing to have. Something to throw on when you need to be cozy, or run errands. Also, it doesn’t hurt to have multiple (just in case one is in the wash!)

The Pants

Many people gravitate to plaid shirts when incorporating this pattern into their wardrobe. However, there are so many ways to style this pattern! Plaid pants are bold, but they are classic and one way to really stand out!

The Overcoat

One of my favourite pieces to style (especially during fall + winter) is the plaid overcoat. This tops the look off with that perfect elegance that many outfits need! Plus, an overcoat is a “third piece” that can polish any look off with style!

Whether you are going for a hike, lounging around the house or heading out on a coffee date…this is always a classic and fun pattern to spice up your looks! I love to pattern mix and I often use plaid as my main pattern…I really can NEVER get enough of it…

The Year of Possibility

This past year has been quite interesting, to say the least. However, to bring in the big 2-0-1-5, I thought a style blog would provide an outlet for opportunity, possibility and pure expression.

What brought this on?

A couple of months ago, I was browsing through my ‘explore’ page on Instagram and came across a pretty prominent fashion blogger. She is a twenty-something mother of one who loves to read, teach and drink Starbucks – already, three things we have in common. So I followed her, thinking that I coudl see what she came up with and if I could get some inspiration. Weeks went by and I was loving her content…so much that I started taking outfit of the day photos – like she did every so often. It became a routine. Which led me to create a separate IG account where I could post these photos.

Outfit of the Day

Once I created the account, I began posting, posting, posting. I assembled different outfits with the pieces that I had, and then when I got inspiration from Pinterest and IG, I started going out to the mall to look for more pieces to add to my wardrobe. Not only did I begin to have a lot of fun with the pictures, it came in handy having a documentation of what I wore – I went outside my comfort zone, pattern mixing, matching different colours…and it kind of stuck.

The Community

One of the main things that I became addicted to was the IG fashion and style blogger community. There is a whole world outside of posting pictures of your friends and food that you don’t really know about until you go looking for it! I started to gain a following – other bloggers, fellow fashionistas, and more people interested in seeing my looks. It was so uplifting and encouraging, and made me want to grow my account to bigger and better things!

A Style blog was born…

About three months and 500 follwers into my IG account that was slowly, but surely growing, another prominent blogger reached out to me through commenting on one of my photos. She suggested that I start a blog based around fashion and style, showcasing these looks that I would post every day on IG. It was at that moment, that it all clicked! This was a perfect idea! I could combine my love for writing, and my love for style and create the ultimate outlet for my expression!

Future Hopes

I am doing this purely for fun at this point. If it takes me somewhere where I can work on it for sponsors, money, or compensation…then that’s where the blog will take me. However, right now, I just love having something that is attached to my name – my brand, my control…it’s all me. Whether it takes off or not, at least I know I will have two guaranteed readers…Mom and Dad.
