I am probably the blandest person you will ever meet when it comes to food. I can’t handle anything spicy (seriously, black pepper sets my mouth on fire) and I definitely am not adventurous. However, as I move through my twenties, I have learned to give things a try and keep my mind open when it comes to food.
I have expanded my horizons to so many different tastes these past few years, and I am really getting into food. I have never been one to truly enjoy eating. However, there are a few meals that I crave almost weekly and have truly perfected the way I prepare it for myself, friends and family.
I am not a food blogger, but in honor of ‘Cinco de Mayo!’, I thought I would share my simple and quick way that I prepare tacos – nothing unique or original, just my plain ol’ way of doing things. Also, who doesn’t love tacos…right?
I grew up in a pretty normal household. However, when it came to spices, my family really didn’t season anything. We always would brown meat, cut up some tomatoes and lettuce, grate cheese and throw it all in a wrap. No spices. No seasoning. Nothing. You can imagine my surprise when I went off to university, had a taco night with my roommates and discovered that taco seasoning was a thing and kind of, you know, necessary for tacos.
This is one of my favourite meals to make. I make it at least twice a month – if not more. Now, it is not the most flavorful recipe…but it is just to my liking (spiciness-wise) and it certainly hits the spot.
Not only is this recipe incredibly simple, but it is the most basic taco recipe you will ever use. Perfect for a quick, easy and fun dinner (seriously, no work needed).
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
lean ground beef
Prepare the ground beef in a large fry pan, browning it as usual. Cook all the way through, and let simmer for 1-2 minutes.
Mix together the taco seasoning and water in a separate bowl. Combine completely.
Once the meat is browned thoroughly, pour the taco seasoning and water mixture into the fry pan. Coat the browned beef in the taco seasoning and water mixture and let sit.
Keep warm until ready to serve.
Dice the tomato, strip the lettuce and grate the cheese.
This recipe is simple and easy - makes for a quick preparation for a fun, Mexican night!
I hope I inspired you to make tacos, and maybe try spicing my recipe up a little (considering there are none in this one)! Let me know in the comments below how you prepare your favourite taco meal!
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Happy May everyone! It feels like I blinked and spring arrived. Just kidding, it has actually been the longest winter ever. The warm weather has finally arrived! Which means, the little shopper in me has come our of hibernation! I am constantly looking for new trends, fun deals and great new pieces to add to my closet.
If you haven’t heard the news, Pantone named ‘Ultra Violet’ as their colour of the year! Purple is taking it’s stance, and boy are we ever seeing it in fashion lately. I am always a fan of purple. Not everyone is a fan of this vibrant colour! Well, take a look at these pieces I found – it will be hard to resist purple after you see these ultra cute pieces…
These tops I have chosen are a mix between casual and professional. I carefully selected different shades of violet from pastel to concentrated. These are definitely my ‘top’ picks for the season when it comes to Pantone’s ‘Colour of the Year’. From Banana Republic to Garage, there is something in this lookbook for everyone…
It’s time to put away the sweaters and stock your closet full of those cute springy dresses. I selected these few pieces to really carry that violet vibe all through the season! Each of these dresses add fun, sophistication and trendy fashion into your closet.
Jackets aren’t necessarily the first thing we think of when the weather starts to warm up. However, when the sun goes down, it can get chilly. What says “spring night out” better than this fun lilac moto jacket? It is as pastel as they come, but definitely a trendy piece worth adding to your closet this season!
Shoes and Accessories
If you are new to trying colours like this one, and you don’t want to go bold right out of the gate…these are the items for you. Adding pops of colour to your outfit is always a good idea, but especially when you are trying a new colour you aren’t used to. These pops of violet is perfect for the colour newcomer!
Caught the spring shopping bug yet? Don’t worry, I caught it a long time ago. At least the side effects are cute clothes and great style, right? Stay tuned for more fun shop-able posts!
Good news, everyone! The sun has finally come out of hiding and we are getting the warm spring weather we deserve! There is nothing I love more than a good day spent outside, and this week brings the start of my outside days.

There is nothing better than taking a stroll down the dock, gazing over the water and beautiful trees. We took a stroll in downtown Lakefield by the marina and oh did we ever get summer vibes. Now, spring is definitely a beautiful season, but hanging my feet over the dock, splashing the water with the tips of my toes and feeling the wind through my hair? Definitely swooping me up into a summer dream.
Believe it or not, only two short weeks ago, this entire city was covered in snow. Yup, you read that right. We had an ice storm – trees were down, roads were blocked, and it was definitely a hot cocoa + Netflix kind of weekend. Now look where we are – back to normal spring things.
The tragic return of Canadian winter gave me a good scare. But now the snow is gone and spring outfits are at the forefront of my closet (thank goodness!!). I am all about patterns right now – especially stripes. I think I own more striped things than a girl needs!! Yellow is never my go to colour. However, what better time to try this pastel shade than the beginning of the sunny season?
This is such a simple look to recreate, and a comfy one at that! I love the detail in the sleeves and how the warm colour just makes me feel like sunshine. Plus, it is so soft! You can get this piece and many other amazing pieces just like it online at PinkBlush.
I have so many ideas for the warmer months! I can’t wait until the warm weather is here for good – warm weather without rain that is.

It’s been a while since I went on the hunt for some good spring clothing! Now that I am wrapping up my final year of school (yay!!), I’ve turned to the online shops to hunt down some pieces. I love looking all over the place for fun new items for my spring and summer wardrobe. This time, I am really looking everywhere. More specifically, I am looking to the online boutiques, the stores, the whole sale retailers – you name it, I’m looking.
These pieces just scream SPRING to me. In my eyes, spring is a time to test those fun patterns, play around and just have fun with your style. We have been knee deep in winter for such a long time, it’s time to put the sweaters away and bring out those cute rompers, jumpers and dresses!
This season, I am really loving a few of the in style trends. One of those trends is off the shoulder tops. They were in last year as well, but this year they are really coming in again strong. Simplistic, delicate and light, this style is perfect for a dressed up or dressed down look. I will definitely be rocking my OTS tops this season.
I am also really loving patterns. Do they ever really go out of style in the spring season? I don’t think so. However, this year we are seeing more fine print patterns – especially with embroidered pieces. Floral patterns are such a fun way to introduce spring, and personally, my favourite way to brighten up my look. And really, who can go wrong with a good gingham or polka dot pattern?
Another trend that I have always been for are pastels. Pastels are just the be all and end all of spring to me. I am such a pink-lover and pastel pink is my weakness. If I could have everything pastel pink…seriously, I would. However, other pastels go really well with overall spring looks!
Those are just some of my picks this spring. I am hoping to bring you more in the coming weeks as my shopping addiction takes over my life (oops!).
Happy Spring Shopping!
I can see the light at the end of the long snowy tunnel. Winter is almost over, and I am more than thrilled. I am a winter-lover, appreciative of the pretty crystal like scenery outside my window each morning. However, when the calendar flips to March, and the snow turns to slush…I’m over it. It’s time for spring flowers and showers, and everything that comes with the season before summer!

One of the positive things about winter is the sweater weather that accompanies it. I love pulling on a cozy turtle neck, or fluffy vest to keep me toasty while hustling and bustling around in the snow. Sweaters are the most basic pieces of clothing to style, and so I try to follow a rule when I am coordinating a sweater weather look: add a third piece.
Today, my third piece rule features a fabulous furry item I got from my favourite little online shop, Shein. Shein has become my go-to spot for picking up cute, and inexpensive pieces. I have a bit of a shopping addiction (as most of you know), and so it can get quite expensive when I am buying item after item. I’m not kidding, you can get an entire outfit on Shein for under $30 (maybe even more during high sale times!).
This look is only featuring one stylish item from Shein, and that is this puffy white faux-fur vest. It is just the third piece that takes this outfit to the next level. Black jeans and a knit sweater is a common outfit choice for me. However, adding this third piece gives this look some depth. Plus, I get to blend in with the snow (haha!). It’s cozy and furry (just how I like it!).
I love wacky pieces like this one because it isn’t something you might wear every day. However, when you do…you feel like a snow princess! I always wear this vest dressed down, but you could use it as a third piece in a dressed up ensemble as well – the options are endless!
Head over to Shein now to check out their spring collection – you won’t regret it!
